  • My brakes get cherry on top of the previous front and rear overhauls!
A followup to the two previous brakes overhaul videos that I previously made where I replaced much of the brake components including a big brake kit conversion from Reyland Motorsport for the rears that also included 2 part lightweight discs and EBC Yellowstuff pads and then the EBC 2 piece floating discs on the front with EBC Yellowstuff pads.
In the overhaul videos I also replace a bunch of supporting hardware such as all the Brembo pins in the front callipers and slide bushings on the rears but one item that I didn't change before was the bleed screws. I did notice at the time that they were looking a bit tired on all 4 corners so I made plans for this followup video!
I was originally planning to get two Ford screws for the rear Ford callipers and then four Brembo screws for the fronts - basically a straight swap like-for-like. During my research, however, I found that there were some very cool aftermarket options out there and so that is what I decided to pursue!
A company called Addiction Motorsport offers many options and the one that caught my eye was the burnt (rainbow) titanium bleed screws as these are both performant and visually striking!
Being titanium, they are super light weight while also being stronger than steel and have the massive advantage of being corrosion resistant (covering off the main reason why I am replacing the originals) and then the rainbow/burnt colouration is something that I really love, as you may have seen in the previous video with the Milltek burnt titanium exhaust tips!
The length and thread pitch are the same front and rear which is handy as well!
Then onto the Motul DOT 5.1 brake fluid - the standard in the MK3 Ford Focus RS isDOT 4.0 but upgrading to DOT 5.1, while being similar to the point of being able to mix in the system, DOT 5.1 has the advantage of a higher boiling point. This means that you can go harder for longer on the brakes before the fluid reaches that peak and so the brakes keep working - the ideal setup for track play!
I show the entire process to replace all six bleed screws across the single piston rear callipers to the four piston Brembo callipers as well as the process to flush and bleed the system with the new DOT5.1 brake fluid using the one person method!
Addiction Motorsport the Titanium Bleed Screws:
    - Titanium screws are best known for being strong, lightweight and corrosion resistant.
    - Ideal to smarten up the appearance of your motorbike or car.
    - Replace those rusty originals with our precision engineered Titanium Bleed Screws.
    - Made from Aircraft Spec Grade 5 Titanium our bolts are 40% lighter than the standard OEM Parts.
    - One property that stands out when compared to other metal bolts is that titanium bolts have the highest strength-to-weight ratio with a density of 4.51 g /cm3.
    - As an example, titanium grade 5 is 4 times stronger than 316 stainless steel at nearly half the weight.
    - This makes titanium bolts ideal for applications that require both lightness of weight and excellent strength while being highly corrosive resistance.
    - Thread size is M10 x 1.0
Motul about DOT 5.1 brake fluid:
    - For all hydraulic brake and clutch systems meeting or recommended by DOT 5.1, DOT 4 and DOT 3 manufacturers' specifications.
    - Specially suitable for anti-lock braking systems (ABS): The viscosity (820 centipoises at -40°C) lower than conventional DOT 4 fluids (up to 1800 cp) and DOT 3 (up to 1500 cp) p) allows fluid to circulate easily between the micro valves of the anti-lock system, without interfering with the movement of the valves. Neutral behavior with seals used in brake systems. Anti-corrosion
    - For all hydraulic brake and clutch systems that meet or recommended by the manufacturer specifications DOT 5.1, DOT 4 and DOT 3.
    - Fluid specially designed for anti-lock braking systems (ABS).
    - Specially suitable for wheel anti-lock systems (ABS): Viscosity (820 centipoises to -40.0 °F) less than that of conventional DOT 4 fluids (up to 1800 cp) and DOT 3 (up to 1500 cp) allows the fluid to flow easily between the micro valves of the anti-lock system, without interfering with the movement of the valves.

I love the idea of using titanium bleed screws which are less likely to corrode.
Does the Focus RS brake setup use M8 or M10 bleed nipple screws? Are the front and rear bleed nipple screws the same?

Interesting that the Euro spec reservoir has a neck that gets it past the cowl. US spec is hidden a bit underneath making access a little challenging...

You'll want to do the clutch system too bc it is a shared system and now the DOT 4 and 5.1 are mixed together. There is a specific procedure for clutch bleeding. How does the brake pedal feel now?
