If I were you I would look into possible ways of prevention. How about feed the fish one's every other day or 6 days on 1 day off. I also wondering about increasing the fiber intake of the fish or introducing a little bit of psyllium husk to they diet maybe they would go for it and that would help prevent the intestinal blockage.
Peter Csigo I feed peas once a week now & also skip feeding one day like you suggested. That seems to be helping & ive had no issues since👍🏻 this video/treatment was done a month or so ago. Just took a while to edit! Haha
Shawn Eliason could definitely do that👍🏻 when I’m next moving or buying rug fish I’ll be sure to video the process. Thanks for checking out this video Shawn!
Cichlidscape • Of course! Keep up with the awesome content! Quick question, do you have any good references/sites for aiding in identifying cichlid breeds?
Jackthemoo4 thanks👍🏻 I personally don’t no. I would either ask breeders on Instagram etc...see what they think, or there’s also a lot of Facebook groups for African cichlid hobbyists. You can post questions/photos to that page & see what members of the group think. They would be the two best options I know of mate
It used to offered everywhere but I believe it’s now pretty tough to get ahold of due to changes in substances allowed to be offered in the US. You might be able to find some online though!
Hey cichlidscape I have a cichlid that has the bloat and is floating up top.... can't stay on the bottom... he still has his appetite and is eating really good... and defecating... the right color... he has had Epsom salt bath... and we are feeding him garlic food... will not eat peas... so what would you think i should do next? clout isn't available... thanks
Cichlidscape • is an awesome light just seems like when I take it off my one 55 and put it on my Afican tank their colors don’t seem to pop Maybe it’s because my back it’s not black
I feed alot of frozen peas and add a teaspoon of Epsom salt to every gallon of water change water and I've never had bloat ever since... before I got bloat I've never used either so I'm a firm believer that peas and Epsom will keep bloat away but using as a cure ,that's another thing!!
The Fishy Life ! Some good info. Thanks for sharing mate👍🏻 I usually feed pea’s the day before a water change. That way the fish get cleared out....& then the water change dilutes that extra waste you know. Seems to work well!
@@Robertye112 room temperature and feed de-shelled peas. press slowly on the pea between your fingers and let the inner soft part of the pea slide out in the tank while holding on to the pea skin or shell.
Hey I hope someone sees this comment and can help me! I added a new cichlid to my tank so now there’s 2 total in there, my original cichlid was completely fine when I added the new fish to the tank then I went out for a couple of hours and when I came back home my original cichlid looked all bloated? He’s swimming around normally and doesn’t seem to be bothered about it, but what is happening ? I don’t know maybe he just looks bigger because the new fish is a bit smaller but I swear I don’t remember his stomach looking bloated ... 🧐
DOFA not necessarily overfeeding. More due to high amounts of protein in food with these fish. Tough to control 16 fishes food intake when feeding flakes & pellets to them all at once. They’re are pigs when it comes to food. A fine line between feeding enough & “overfeeding” but thanks for watching & supporting the channel👍🏻
@@cichlidscape Very true, after bred cichlids for 20yrs its best to keep them a bit on the hungry/starving side side, temp 26 as they grow better and very clean water. Awesome vid !!
DOFA I can control the breeding tanks way easier but these show males in the big tank just go wild for food haha no controlling there & the amount they’ll eat if they see it early😂 glad you liked the video👍🏻
@@cichlidscape just a hint, if ever you get white spot/ick raise airbubbler/oxygen and temp to 85F for 2 weeks.. no medications and white spot is all gone.

Pat O thanks a lot my friend! The 5.5 gallon certainly came in handy!👍🏻
Great job brother!!!! You saved him...👍 your fish room looks sweet also!!

Love the channel, followed your videos for a little bit now and just had my first successful breed. 20-25 healthy fry!

Clout is no longer in production due to fda ban of one of the ingredients. It used to be my go to med aswell. Any chance for an alternative?

Hey this is completely off topic on this video but what lighting do you use on your tanks
Tyler the fish keeper Martin on my big tank I use a current satellite freshwater led. Awesome light!
Cichlidscape • is an awesome light just seems like when I take it off my one 55 and put it on my Afican tank their colors don’t seem to pop Maybe it’s because my back it’s not black
Cichlidscape • I have that light on another tank of mine
Tyler the fish keeper Martin definitely could be that mate👍🏻 I’ve had the light about 4-5 years now. Really enjoy the color spectrum on it
Cichlidscape • how do you have it set up?
Good topic 👍🏻

Do a video about deworming as well please 😉

You should show more of yourself actually talking with the tank in the background. ;)
