  • For my 1970 German "Eifelburgenbahn" layout I re-created the level crossing from Uersfeld (Eifel). I made photos and took measurements in 1991 when I was 18, half a year after the line was closed for passenger traffic. It was a simple single track secondary railway (that will hopefully be reactivated in a few years, btw!)
Now that I'm 51 I can finally enjoy that level crossing with train traffic. I've also done my best to stick to the prototype according to the way such a level crossing was operated.
I'll explain the way the prototype works and the way I've implemented it on my attic. And of course I'll show the pretty pictures.
Something I'd like to note: this didn't cost me a lot of money. A second hand "viessmann" set of signals for instance. All the HET/HAT/RS/sensor stuff is just small pieces of plastic glued together with perhaps some florists' wires as cables. And the "Halt!" sign was printed at home on my regular deskjet.
Anyway... Lots of fun and lots of evenings to build this. Enjoy the video!
