The grey walls, station and bedding contrast with the maroon carriages..a great scene of colours and thought obviously went into this layout....simply wonderful and inspirational.
It's been heavily influenced by similar grey mornings when I was a volunteer at Embsay working on similar maroon carriages... they say model what you know 😉 Thanks for watching 👍
I watched this layout grow from the first video you made talking about it, and 3 years on seeing just how far it's come is nothing short of amazing. You have done so well and earned each and every one of your subscribers, although you are a modest chap, I don't think it is inappropriate at all to say that it is young enthusiasts like you, who have contributed to saving this hobby the most, and I dare say, you more so than most. Well done, the layout is beautiful and We have all learned so much from it, I hope you are proud of yourself and your work. :)
Thank you, while I don't know about "saving the hobby" I do think taking a positive approach to the hobby is the best thing for all of us. Recognising that it's a bit of fun and having a go with a "can-do" attitude goes a long way. But equally I'm so proud of this layout and the video series that goes with it and I'm incredibly grateful that so many others have found joy from joining me along the way. Thanks for watching 🤩
Same hear its amazing to think that its been going on for the past 3 years time really flies doesn’t it can’t believe its over. I joined this channel in the hopes to learn something and i did and I’m in the planning stage of my very own hematite railway
The touch of the tail lamp on the rear of the train as it passes out from the last shot; perfect. I think your words in this bookend episode of this series has left me without much to say. As a self proclaimed long term regular viewer, it has been a delight to have watched the railway, the channel, and our host develop as a modeller to this point from those burgeoning days of the tail end of the first lockdown. I think I speak for all of us when i say thank you so much for the privilege to follow along with the trials, tribulations and everything in between that brought this railway to fruition. It has been a pleasure to watch and I cannot wait for whatever comes next. And who knows? Maybe, just maybe, we'll all get to see Pitley out on the circuit. Until next time!
I was trying to figure out what the last shot of the series would be and this was just too goo an opportunity to miss. The privilege is all mine though. It's been a true honour to create this series for you all, especially those who have been watching since the beginning and I feel that this layout is as much yours as it is mine. Fingers crossed for some exhibition appearances in the future! Thanks for watching 😃
A wonderful finale. Thank you so much for inspiring me to push onwards with my own layout. I was so daunted at the beginning but your videos have given me so much inspiration. I’m really looking forward to whatever videos you decide to do in future ❤🚂
Thank you and that's so great to hear. My hope for the series was always that it might give others sense that they could do something like this too so I'm so pleased that has been the case. Best of luck with your layout and thanks for watching 😃
Love this layout so much! Hope to see more of it down the line. Like many others you were a main inspiration of mine to start my own layout and for that I'm massively grateful. Awesome video and can't wait for what's to come.
Thank you, Pitley Steam Railway will definitely be featuring on the channel plenty - now that it's done I can spend much more time running trains on it! Great to hear that the series has also given you the push for your own layout. Best of luck with it and thanks for watching 😃
Your layout is complex and beautifully made and yet it has a simplicity and joy....... I can't get to shows any more and your site is my goto place for my railway fix. Please keep on doing what you do so well and thank you for the fun
Thank you and I'm so glad to hear that this channel has been helping you to enjoy the hobby in replacement of exhibitions. I don't have plans to stop any time soon and while the build of this layout is coming to an end, a whole new series should be along fairly soon (with plenty of other videos in the meantime too!) Thanks for watching 😃
Amazing, watching this layout come together over the months has been a joy. Always looking forward to seeing the next episode. You and Charlie from Chadwick have inspired me to take the plunge and have a go myself. So 3 months ago I started on my first base board. Its going to be a long journey ahead of me,But I am enjoying the process and learning lots along the way.So Thank you for all the hard work you put in to making these episodes and look forward to seeing what's next. Great Work.
Thank you and I'm so glad it's given you the inspiration to start work on your own layout. I always approach these videos with the intent of simplifying the process so that anyone can have a go so it's great to hear that is the case. If you haven't seen it already, I did a series a while back called Model Railway Basics which covers all the basic skills and scenic techniques that can be useful while building a layout. Best of luck with the project and thanks for watching 😃
A very grand final indeed! Thank you for taking us on such a wonderful journey of the building of the layout. You certainly have built something to be proud of. Thank you for the running session and for taking us through Pitley. looking forward to more wonderful content from you.
Thanks Nigel, it's been fantastic to have you all along for the ride so to speak and it's great to be able to share the "finished" layout with you all. More news on the next series coming soon! Thanks for watching 🤩
Thank you so much. It's always great to hear that people have learned a lot from the videos. This was never intended as a series to make me look good or clever but to show everyone else what could be achieved by following some basic techniques. Thanks for watching 😃
Thank you, it felt like it needed a moment at the end just to look back on the entire series and say thank you to everyone who has followed the project. Thanks for watching 😃
Hi "Guy". I really love this layout (even if it is in OO gauge - LOL). I love the way the layout and backdrops blend together and the quality of the work. I hope we get to see the layout in many of your future videos.
Thank you, the backscenes really do add a lot to the layout and extend the scene really nicely. Pitley will definitely be in lots of future videos - I so many ideas! Thanks for watching 😃
What you need in or near the coal loading area is a JCB telescopic handler the modern day coal bunker loading devise found at many a heritage railway (excluding those with the coal loading stages). Other than that the layout looks excellent. For the building removal issue you could put some pieces of timber inside them on the four walls which intern will help you locate them back in place when you need to place them back on the layout after storage.
Yes there are lots of little details like this to add around the entire layout, once I have more time and more importantly the funds to do so. With the buildings It's less about locating them on the layout and more the fact that little details get damaged being constantly taken on and off. The amount of space needed to store them off the layout is a major factor too as it takes up several more boxes and vital floor space so the overall aim is to get to a situation where they don't need to be removed from the layout at all. Thanks for watching 😃
It was amazing watching this layout coming together, and it actually inspired me to make a small shelf layout. Pitley Steam Railway looks truly amazing. Great job.
It's been a pleasure to have you all watching along and I'm so glad it's inspire d you to have a go at building your own layout - that's what it's all about! Thanks for watching 😃
Having watched all the episodes I have been encouraged to start up my own layout. It’s not my first (maybe 5th!), but this i hope to make it to the finish this time. Your videos have really helped with ideas for scenery and atmosphere. Mine will be a US based theme, sort of East Coast with a coal mine. It’s based off of a 4x8 board, but chopped up to be a 6x7 with a central operating pit. Thank you.
Awesome, I'm really glad to hear the videos have given you the push to complete your own layout. Sounds like a great plan and I wish you the best of luck with it. Thanks for watching 😃
It’s nice to see that the layout is finished after tons of hard work, well done TMRG, I’ve had a lovely time watching all of your videos and they’ve all been great! This is truly impressive!
Thank you, it's been so fantastic to share this project with you all and to have such a thorough documentation of the build process from start to finish. It feels weird to be moving on from this project... but maybe not forever. Thanks for watching 😃
Fantastic build start to finish huge round of applause sir my hat off to you, proving what sounds hard can be done, simply follow these three steps which you have taught also known as Practice - Patience - DA DA - Fun , looking forward to following your future builds.
Glad you enjoyed the series! Since this one was released there's actually been another full layout build in a different scale so there's a lot to catch up on. Thanks for watching 👍
Looking really good . The colours and lighting are spot on for a sunny afternoon ! choice of locos and rolling stock is varied and interesting without being unrealistic !
Thanks, yeah some might say it's a bit typical to model a Summer's day but that was always what I was going for and I think it works really well. Most of the locos were chosen by my channel members so all credit has to go to them for that! Thanks for watching 😃
Congratulations on a job well done. A huge achievement and it's looking very nice. One thing I like to raise is that it is very sterile, very clean and organised, but that can also be a design choice. But well done, it was worth the effort and thanks for sharing the journey. I can see it has been really a lot of hard work.
Thank you, I'm certainly very pleased with how it's turned out. Yes it is a bit too pristine at the moment. A lot of that was down to just getting the basic scenery done for the exhibition but now that I have no impending deadline I can start adding a few more details to make the world a bit more lived in. Thanks for watching 😃
So glad to hear that! Pitley Steam Railway isn't going anywhere but the next project is just as exciting... and in some ways even more ambitious! Thanks for watching 🤩
I'll be honest it's going to be odd not working this layout - however Pitley will still be featuring in many videos to come in the future. AND there's also a brand new series with a new layout project coming very soon - if you've enjoyed these videos the chances are you'll really enjoy what's coming as well. Thanks for watching 😃
Stumbled across you channel last week. It’s been amazing to watch you build this layout. Extremely inspiring. Wish you and pitley all the best for the fuutre
Amazing, it's great to hear new viewers are finding the channel all the time! I'm so glad you've enjoyed watching the process, Pitley definitely has a lot more life in it yet and I've more exciting projects for the near future too. Thanks for watching 😃
Your channel and layouts have always had a high level of professionalism associated with them. You'll have loyal followers till those cows come home, as they say! Great running sessions, BTW.
Thank you, I do feel that the extra work I put in with these videos does make a big difference and makes each episode a lot easier to watch. It certainly seems like that resonates with everyone else too given how many people are now following the channel. Thanks for watching 😃
Is a layout ever truly complete? 😅 I know what you mean though, it's come such a long way from this time last year and it's great to finally be able to run trains through the finished scenery. Thanks for watching 👍
This series was my first time seeing any model railway content of any kind. And it's safe to say you've set the bar very high with the production quality. And as I also enjoy building layouts in transport fever, you've given me some interesting ideas.. So thank you.
Thank you, even from the beginning I knew there was a certain level I wanted achieve with the quality of the videos, even if I couldn't necessarily match that with my actual modelling skills. To end up with this layout and a video series documenting the entire process is incredibly satisfying. Even more so is the fact that it's given so many people inspiration for their own projects both physical and virtual. Thanks for watching 😃
Now I can stop watching yours and get on with mine! So much inspiration here. Thoroughly enjoyed the series and will be dipping back into various episodes to remind me how you achieved different elements of the build as mine progresses. Thanks again! 😀
Big thank you for all of the videos you have made, I have used a lot of the methods that you demonstrated on my own layout. Look forward to to seeing what's next for channel.
great series just when watching the playlist it starts at the last episode and runs through the videos to the first one, don't know if that's just for me but what a series, it has been excellent i have thoroughly enjoyed the journey. keep up the amazing production and work
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. It's best on RUclips for the latest video to be displayed at the top of the list, although yes it is annoying that they then play in reverse order. Thanks for watching 😃
I've commented on similarly before, but you have inspired me to build my own modular model railway (albeit an n gauge berlin). I'm currently working on a McDonald's underneath my elevated Station. I've learned so much watching this series from beginning to end and can't wait to see what you've got next. I'd also love to see the layout in person. Hope you do plan some more shows. I'm sure you could crowd source some subscriber volunteers to help you out. I love the layout, and also your relaxed presenting style. Thanks so much.
Thank you and I'm so pleased that this series has given you ideas for your own layout. I'd definitely love to do more shows in the future once I've made some more improvements to the layout. My hope is that then it might be possible to do the odd show here or there where Pitley can be a real showstopper... at least that's what I'm aiming for. Thanks for watching 😃
That ending was oddly emotional - like the end of a journey with friends. Very well done, it's been a fascinating project to see come to life and I hope you are justly proud of what you've achieved
I did want to end on a note of reflection as well as saying thank you to everyone who has been watching. When the first episode was released the subscribers for this channel was still in the hundreds... and now look. As for whether I'm proud, yes absolutely, both of the layout itself as well as the video series and how it has brought people together. And this may be the end of one chapter but a new one is about to begin. Thanks for watching 😃
Thank you, it's very satisfying to know that people have not only got enjoyment out of these videos but useful tips and tricks to put in place on their own layouts too! I agree, I can see why some see them as bit boring in the heritage world but even so I've always had a soft spot for Austerities. Thanks for watching 😃
What a finale, maybe TMRG! You have done a splendid job and taught us so much as returnees to the hobby. I understand the points you make about exhibitions vs eyes on RUclips and the work involved. Perhaps your community should volunteer to help 😉 but then it is a precious layout that deserves TLC. It is never fun finished as you say and I look forward to the future tweeks
Yeah it's definitely a lot of work for a layout that wasn't really designed to leave home, especially when it gets seen by thousands online - I know it's not really the same thing but ultimately if I was going to do loads of exhibitions it would mean I had less time to make videos. I'm certainly not ruling out doing the odd one or two special appearances in the future though once I've got some of the niggles worked out. Thanks for watching 😃
Thanks, it's definitely nice to bring this series to a close with the completion of the layout, although as I said in the video, it will certainly make a return at some point. Thanks for watching 😃
Congratulations on a brilliant video series. The effort required not only to build it AND film every step to a really high standard is incredible. Nicely paced throughout, Clear instruction, sound reasoning for decisions and an honest roundup of lessons learned at the end You should have your own TV show. Looking forward to seeing what you do next.
Thank you! Someday I'd love to do a behind the scenes video to show just how much work goes into a single episode - but of course that would complicate the filming process even further 😅 With this channel I've always tried to show not just how I do things but why I do them as well and I've never tried to hide any of the mistakes I've made as that's partly what makes it interested. I suspect there isn't enough drama for TV but the beauty of RUclips means something like this has the space to breathe without having to worry about ratings or viewer numbers in quite the same way. Thanks for watching 😃
It’s been amazing to see the layout develop over the last few years! I know I’m looking forward to the livestreams and running sessions. Love seeing the industrials running passenger services. Something I might suggest is a Pitley Coal Train Weekend video? Mix of passenger and mineral wagon services (if you look up Blaenavon Coal Train Weekend you’ll get the idea of the sort of thing I mean)… Anyway, thank you for a brilliant series showing us the development of this wonderful layout.
Thank you, I'm looking forward to doing the livestreams later this year too! Ooh I definitely like the idea of running some freight alongside regular passengers services. I've actually got loads of ideas for running sessions so I'll have to get round to filming some of them next time I have the layout setup. Thanks for watching 😃
This really has been an excellent series and the end result is a truly magnificent model railway. It has been fascinating to watch and I'm sure there are many of us who have learned much as a part of your journey. Well done! Would you mind giving details of the overall size of the layout, please?
Thank you, I'm really glad so many people have enjoyed watching along and being part of the journey. Being modular the layout can take on many shapes and sizes depending on how its setup but in its basic circuit configuration it's roughly 12ft x 6ft. Thanks for watching 😃
And so you should be pleased, in fact proud! … The back ground is in perspective and pulls you right into the imagination and skill you’ve applied in the foreground. I’ve found your modelling superb and learnt a lot. But like you say a model is never finished, and for me the fun and satisfaction in anything like this is always in the modelling, then it goes on and on for however far the imagination “and” space can stretch. Whereas the actual operation in my mind comes 2nd… My love of model railways came about at a young age, and after looking through some old Railway model magazines dated from the 50s my appetite was then wetted forever! Alas now I will perhaps never ever achieve the dream of my own model, all though never say never!!.. and a plan to build a layout representing the former Longmoor Military railway (closed in 1969) has always stuck in my mind…. Anyway you’ve spurred me on, and I plan to go to more model railway exhibitions this year…. So all that’s left to be said is, thank you so much for bringing me so much enjoyment. You have certainly brought a smile to my face 👏👏👏👍
I'm definitely very proud with the result and it's great that so many others have connected with the layout online too. Hope you get to build your LMR layout some day and thanks for watching 😃
Really enjoyed the series and learned a lot from it. You are an excellent speaker with a captivating presentation style. Your video production is some of the best I have seen so far. I am looking forward to your future endeavors' in the hobby. Cheers.
Thank you, I'm so glad you've enjoyed it! Right from the beginning I've tried to make sure these videos have a high production standard in all aspects so it's nice to know it's appreciated. Hopefully there will be more news on the next series very soon. Thanks for watching 😃
Nice video mate. It's been an epic journey watching you build the layout. And to have it at an exhibition is a great achievement. Looking forward to seeing what happens in the future. - Nicholas.
Thank you so much Nicholas, it's been great having so many people enjoy the layout. I'm looking forward to testing my modelling skills on something a bit different in the near future but I'll definitely keep coming back to Pitley! Thanks for watching 😃
Enjoyed the progress on Pitley. As to the future of Pitley, " This is not the beginning nor is it the end. But is the end of the beginning" Winston Churchill. Bill from California
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy My 10' x 10' bedroom walls need repainting & sky blue now seems to be the perfect colour. Giant cats are likely going to be the main.. curiosity.
Not sure what your plans are...but I know if I had something like this(if I even had a place for a model railway) I would already be thinking about additional modules that I could make to allow running two trains simultaneously. Such as a second station, a loop as you call it over there(passing siding here in the States)...the possibilities are endless. Personally, I'd keep the building removable but the small items would be permanently attached and not have to worry about when moving it around.
I've got plenty of ideas for future modules - the issue is space. The layout already fills the entire room and even when it's packed away it still takes up a lot of space. That's actually why I'm planning to fix the buildings down as they require several more storage boxes to pack them up properly without damaging them. I'll most likely use magnets though just in case I need to fiddle about with the lighting in the future. Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy Yes, layout space would be a consideration, but I would be thinking more along the lines of making sure I had storage space as the additional modules would be to change out the existing setup, sort of rotating scenics and operations without having a huge layout, but that might present other problems. Brainstorming is part of the hobby too.
Hi there you mentioned about the servos being a bit too powerful if you put a "Z" bend in the push rod it works like a spring. And how about using neodymium magnets to hold the buildings which means that they can be removed for travel but not move if the layout is knocked by accident
It's more the fragility of the plastic signals that's the limiting factor as they're just too delicate. I'll most likely look at brass signal kits and switch over to digital servos for finer control too. That was exactly my plan for the buildings. They probably won't come off even for storage though as I don't have space for them. It'll really only just be if I ever need to get inside to the lighting or interiors. Thanks for watching 😃
Sorry if it's in one of the previous episodes but what method did you use for uncoupling on this layout still trying to get something to work on my shunting layout other than "the hand of God" way.
Currently I actually use "hand of God" uncoupling on this layout. The intention is to add automatic uncoupling at some point in the future using the same technique I used for my TT:120 layout but there's lots of other stuff to do before that point. Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy thanks for the response I appreciate it. I've tried multiple different ways from official uncoupling ramps to bits of plastic and I think the best way is just to do the hand of god method... Just need to try and find a paperclip somewhere in the house lol 😅
@@BeastyBill88 I wouldn't use a paperclip personally in case you short out the tracks. Those plastic glue spreader wands for kids tend to work really well in my experience.
Well done on achieving the ultimate aim of attending an exhibition with a working layout. That in itself has surely made this all worthwhile? It does seem like you have already picked up on plenty of things to improve upon, and even better, already got a plan of sorts for some of it 😃 I don’t know the ins and outs of it exactly, but I know an old method of powering semaphores in a way that protected their fragility was by balancing the arm on a sprung see-saw mechanism so there was plenty of ‘give’ in the mechanism. It sounds a faff but not only does it help protect the signal, it also means that the arm sort of flutters as it engages which is just like the real thing! 😎 In terms of the time taken to set up/pack away, I suspect that if you had already done it a few times, you will take far less time. Once upon a time, I used to do promotional work which often involved setting up displays at shows. We’d be paid on the understanding that the displays would typically take 8 hours to set up, and the first few times it would! However, by the end of the third or fourth show, the time would usually be halved and in some case, by the time I had set up and packed away a display 5 or 6 times, I’d find myself doing most of it within an hour and a half, have a nice break for breakfast and a cuppa, and then do the rest within another hour or two! Obviously I’d still get paid for 8 hours though 😆 Just one thing I was going to suggest BTW, why not add an alternative walling section with an end piece for a gate or where the wall ends and a different fence starts? 🤔 Obviously I’ve no idea how easy that is so ignore me if I am being daft! 😄 Actually, I’ll be interested if you find any additional accessories that you decide to produce yourself, because I like how you keep it simple and just want to aid your fellow modellers 👍 Cheers mate. Great to see the evolution of the layout at the end, and to see the complete layout (for now at least!) and I look forward to the next set of instalments 👍🍀🍻
It definitely was a huge achievement to get the layout running at an exhibition! With the semaphores, it's more the fact that the plastic kits are too delicate for long transportation and are easily knocked/snapped when setting up and dismantling. Again with the setup of the layout, I've done it a fair few times at home and I've got it down to a fine art but the issue is more that it was designed for home use, not at an exhibition. If I were designing it as an exhibition layout I would have made things differently. Thanks for watching 😃
That's the aim! My whole ethos for the channel isn't to make me look good or clever but rather to show if an idiot like me can do this then so can you! 😉 Thanks for watching 🤩
Hey there chap, have you thought about making a connecting board? Have it in an L shape to replace a corner section, then it could connect to your other boards
I'm not sure what you mean about a connecting board? All the boards connect to each other in a circuit already. Having an L shape module would be impractical though for storage and wouldn't present as many opportunities as I have with the current straight and corner modules. Thanks for watching 😃
Stunning achievement, I remember the first few videos and it's been wonderful to follow your progress. It's even more so, as the inspiration and finish is recognisable through my volunteering, getting to drive through similar scenes regularly. As for exhibitions, I hope you manage to sort the niggles out as seeing it on video is one thing, but being able to appreciate it in person is a different thing entirely. If help was required at exhibitions, I wouldn't be surprised if followers in the area you travel to would jump at the chance to assist....I know I would....
Thank you! It certainly does have that special connection to Embsay with enough similarity to draw comparison while still allowing Pitley to be it's own unique place. Regarding future exhibitions, yeah there's a few things to work on. I wouldn't even say they're niggles but new things I want to add or try - remote uncoupling for example so a run-around could be demonstrated without the hand of god being required. The main issue for exhibitions though is actually getting it out of the house which requires some careful manoeuvring round some very tight corners and stairs! 😅 Thanks for watching 👍
Guess I`m late to the party here, the first video I watch is the Finale, so there is a lot to catch up on. As I intend to watch ALL your content you have a new subscriber, thanks.
Hey no worries, you're more than welcome here! You've got a lot to look forward to and the great thing is you can binge watch the entire series. Thanks for watching and subscribing too 😃
Thank you, it's been an honour to have so many people follow this project and I'm so grateful for everyone who has taken an interest in the layout. As for the next series... all shall be revealed soon! Thanks for watching 😃
The plans for the next layout/series are very exciting! Lots of new stuff that I haven't done before so I'll definitely be out of my comfort zone. Thanks for watching 😃
Really captures the essence of a heritage railway. Done a fantastic job 👏 if you get a show down in Hampshire I'll try to come and see in the flesh. One question, in your montage you have a clip of a bouncy point... Is there a video explaining what happened here?
Thanks! Like I said in the video I'm not looking for exhibitions at the moment but never say never. Yes it was Episode Six I believe. Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy haha 😂 yeh I totally can understand why. You did great but looks like only really easier with more hands on deck. Thanks will go and watch that.
Awesome! Pitley was very loosely based on a flipped (and much compressed) version of both Embsay and Oakworth but I can definitely see the likeness to Froghall too. Thanks for watching 😃
Hey I actually had an idea that you might be able to make work if you want to make a modular layout that's easy to move and put together again when going to exhibitions. but it could also be something unique. what if you were to make sections within brief cases or something similar. something that you could easily lift up and put inside of a truck or the boot of a car but still detailed enough to make it interesting. plus you could make each single Briefcase a kind of different environment within Different Seasons like fall winter and so on so forth. plus I really think it would be interesting to make entire modular layout out of Brief cases rather than custom builds modules. just an idea I'm putting out there but hey some of you can work with
It wouldn't be impossible but using something as small as a briefcase is going to limit the size of the modules and what track plans you can use. For me it would be too far away from the type of layout I wanted to build but like I said, not outright impossible. Thanks for watching 👍
I'm not trying to nitpick BUT (you saw that coming) wouldn't the picnic area be mown short? Fantastic layout and was made in a relatively short time. Lovely job! BTW do you know any retailers happy to send stuff over to Australia? Now the big H is gone, I need a new supplier. AJMrailways are great but have a limited range. Help anyone?
It is, the picnic area uses 1-2mm static grass while the rest of the grass on the layout uses mostly 4-6mm grass. I think TMC (The Model Centre) do international shipping and they have a huge range in all different scales and gauges. Might be worth giving them a try. Thanks for watching 😃
Well done on the layout 👍 looks great 👍 don’t know about anyone else but I find the sound from the loco’s annoying the sound reminds me of tiny transistor radios Hopefully the onboard speakers will improve 🤔 keep up the good work
Thank you! With the sound it's important to remember that what you're hearing is a small speaker, recorded by a microphone with a lot of room tone, processed through the camera and editing software before being compressed during export and then altered further by RUclips when uploaded. Generally it always sounds better live than it does recorded - something I've been all to aware of during my time working in the music industry. Sometimes bigger speakers help but that's not always the case, it can be as much about the actual sound profile and how it was recorded too. Ultimately though, it's never going to match the real thing although I do think there have been huge improvements to sound over the last few years. Thanks for watching 😃

All i can say brilliant brilliant brilliant have learned a lot from you and your layout thank you
Thank you so much. It's always great to hear that people have learned a lot from the videos. This was never intended as a series to make me look good or clever but to show everyone else what could be achieved by following some basic techniques. Thanks for watching 😃
Excellent production!
Thank you Jordan, glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for watching 😃
Great video, the ending is just brilliant. Very well edited 👏👏
Thoroughly enjoyable series Joe. The result is a great model to be proud of. G/J.
Really glad you enjoyed it, thanks for watching 😃
Excellent model construction.
Thank you, I'm really pleased with how the layout has turned out. Thanks for watching 😃
Great concept, great modelling and a wonderful finale to cap it off!
Thank you so much! This definitely won't be the last we see of Pitley and of course I have more layouts in the works too.
And many of us will be following you on them journeys, thank you for the very entertaining videos
My pleasure! Lots more layout building videos to come, can't wait for you all to see what I'm working on at the moment. Thanks for watching 😃
Well done with the layout
Thank you, I'm so pleased with how it's turned out.
I love this railway and I can’t wait for the next
So glad to hear that! Pitley Steam Railway isn't going anywhere but the next project is just as exciting... and in some ways even more ambitious! Thanks for watching 🤩
I will miss these videos so much!! It’s been an inspiration, and your videos are also so Helpful to teach me!
It’s great to see the layout complete.
Yes absolutely! It's all well and good watching me do it but there's nothing like having your own model railway to play with. Thanks for watching 🤩
Loved the tour of pitley, and loved the running sessions, very heritage feeling, its never the end for pitley if anything it's just begun 😀
Thank you! Yes lots more plans for the future when I have some more time. Thanks for watching 😃
Big thank you for all of the videos you have made, I have used a lot of the methods that you demonstrated on my own layout. Look forward to to seeing what's next for channel.
My pleasure and I'm really glad to hear it's helped you with the building of your own layout. Thanks for watching 😃
great series just when watching the playlist it starts at the last episode and runs through the videos to the first one, don't know if that's just for me but what a series, it has been excellent i have thoroughly enjoyed the journey. keep up the amazing production and work
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy Well it has been great viewing and I am totally in for whatever comes next
Very lovely, coming along nicely.
I should hope so, it's pretty much done now 😅 Thanks for watching 👍
Marvellous achievement. I'm sure we've all learned a great deal from following your adventure.
J94s are just such cool locos!
All over… I think 🤔 you did an amazing and excellent job on the entire project 👍👍 !!!
Thanks, it's definitely nice to bring this series to a close with the completion of the layout, although as I said in the video, it will certainly make a return at some point. Thanks for watching 😃
Congratulations on a brilliant video series. The effort required not only to build it AND film every step to a really high standard is incredible.
Nicely paced throughout, Clear instruction, sound reasoning for decisions and an honest roundup of lessons learned at the end
You should have your own TV show.
Looking forward to seeing what you do next.
Thank you! Someday I'd love to do a behind the scenes video to show just how much work goes into a single episode - but of course that would complicate the filming process even further 😅
With this channel I've always tried to show not just how I do things but why I do them as well and I've never tried to hide any of the mistakes I've made as that's partly what makes it interested. I suspect there isn't enough drama for TV but the beauty of RUclips means something like this has the space to breathe without having to worry about ratings or viewer numbers in quite the same way. Thanks for watching 😃
well done looks fantastic great work
Thanks! I'm hoping this layout will make a return to the channel once my current project is finished. Thanks for watching 😃
Definitely in favour of more videos on the ship too, please.
The ship? I'll definitely be doing more videos on this layout if that's what you mean?
I learned so much from this series. Thanks!
I'm so glad to hear that! Thanks for watching 🤩
I've enjoyed this series. Look forward to future videos.
Glad to hear it! Lots more videos coming on both this layout and new layouts in the future.
A perfect quote to sum up this episode I think! Lots more ideas for the future both on this layout and others. Thanks for watching 😃
Excellent! I feel inspired.
Glad to hear it, I'm sure you'll be running circles around me in no time! Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy My 10' x 10' bedroom walls need repainting & sky blue now seems to be the perfect colour. Giant cats are likely going to be the main.. curiosity.
It’s been a long journey, and a fun one to follow, can’t wait for what you’ve got planned in the future.
It's been so great to have you all along for the ride! Stay tuned... the next project may be along sooner than you think. Thanks for watching 🤩
It does seem like you have already picked up on plenty of things to improve upon, and even better, already got a plan of sorts for some of it 😃
I don’t know the ins and outs of it exactly, but I know an old method of powering semaphores in a way that protected their fragility was by balancing the arm on a sprung see-saw mechanism so there was plenty of ‘give’ in the mechanism. It sounds a faff but not only does it help protect the signal, it also means that the arm sort of flutters as it engages which is just like the real thing! 😎
In terms of the time taken to set up/pack away, I suspect that if you had already done it a few times, you will take far less time. Obviously I’d still get paid for 8 hours though 😆
Just one thing I was going to suggest BTW, why not add an alternative walling section with an end piece for a gate or where the wall ends and a different fence starts? 🤔 Obviously I’ve no idea how easy that is so ignore me if I am being daft! 😄 Actually, I’ll be interested if you find any additional accessories that you decide to produce yourself, because I like how you keep it simple and just want to aid your fellow modellers 👍
Cheers mate.
Thanks for watching 😃
wonderful
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for watching 😃
I feel like this railway would suit having a small station, like a wooden halt. I’m considering getting one for my model railway.
In my head there probably is a small halt somewhere further along the line off-scene. Thanks for watching 😃
Brilliant video, Pitley is superb
Thank you Colin, it's been a pleasure to have you all watching the layout come together. Thanks for watching 😃
Amazing job pal you give a lot of us hope to keep going and maybe we can do something like this cheers
That's the aim! My whole ethos for the channel isn't to make me look good or clever but rather to show if an idiot like me can do this then so can you! 😉 Thanks for watching 🤩
Good work fella
Thanks Stephen, glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching 😃
You should buy a henry model and put him in the tunnel and block it with a wall😂 I did that with mine.
Then I wouldn't be able to run anything from the fiddle yard to the rest of the layout. Thanks for watching 👍
Thanks for watching and subscribing too 😃
This was a beautiful journey! Loved it from start to finish, thank you for guiding us through! 😄 And now...? A new shunting layout? :P
Thank you, it's been an honour to have so many people follow this project and I'm so grateful for everyone who has taken an interest in the layout. As for the next series... all shall be revealed soon! Thanks for watching 😃
What a fun video can't wait to see what you come up with next.
GOD BLESS from America
🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖
Pitley Station kind of reminds me of froghall on the churnet valley railway just enlarged
Awesome! Pitley was very loosely based on a flipped (and much compressed) version of both Embsay and Oakworth but I can definitely see the likeness to Froghall too. Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy it was more Platform 2 and the shelter plus the picknick area there is at froghall
0:46 I remember when I first watched how this station was being built.
Me too - feels like a long time ago... probably because it was 😅 Thanks for watching 👍
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy Actually I haven't checked TMC Thanks for that.
I have seen dimore manor briefly
Awesome, the Manors are very good looking engines and the Accurascale models are great too! Thanks for watching 😃
3:57 looks like mrs kyndley's house from thomas
I didn't really have that in mind when I designed the cottage but looking at it now I know what you mean!
What is the foam you are using?
Hiya, can you be a bit more specific? I used several different types of foam on this build. Thanks for watching 😃
@@ThatModelRailwayGuy I have a Crealty Falcon 2 Pro coming tomorrow and building a Tt120 layout for my grandson. Not looking to go into competition with you.🤣
what seiries are you doing next
All will be revealed soon. Thanks for watching 😃
4:36 - anyone else see the face in the rocks?
I can't... presumably it's a case of pareidolia. Thanks for watching 😃

Hi there, yes I used 10amp wires and connectors across the layout too, I think I mentioned this in the video where I got the live steam Mallard running on the modular layout. Thanks for watching 😃
