Fun list. Obviously some we agree on, some we don't but I was pleased to see someone else rating Costner's Horizon highly. There's very few of us around.
Thanks for watching, Peter. It’s a pity financing and filming wasn’t in place for all four chapters. I would have loved to have seen a sprawling epic spread out over 1-2 month movie theatre intervals.
Lovely t-shirt sir and wishing you well for the festive season. Who says that I don't modern films? I've seen 4 out of 48 haha. Kinds of kindness is my film of the year. Granted I haven't seen much.
Hi Neil. Great vid. Harsh criteria (strictly 2024) 😆 . From your list I've only seen 3: Love Lies Bleeding, Furiosa, Anora. I'm still looking for a favourite of 2024 (...just 9 days left 😀). Kneecap was good fun. I'm hoping to see The Substance and also Bird and Kinds Of Kindness.
Thanks, Steve. Yes, with (hopefully) people watching from different regions where release dates differ, I thought it best to be clear on year. I’ve seen several videos now which include movies that I considered for 2023. Hoping to see Bird next week and maybe catch A Complete Unknown, Nosferatu and Babygirl before year end. My sister raved about Kneecap, I haven’t seen it yet. All the best
@@neilsmoviechannel3199Oh Rats! Now you’ve got me thinking about a follow-up to my ‘24 Favourite Films in 24’ 😀…’20 More Favourite First Watches Films of 2024’. 🤔 Perhaps I’ll upload this at the end of the year. ..and hopefully some actual 2024 films will make the shortlist 🤞. Thanks Neil, your videos are always inspiring 👍
I’ve now watched 18 films officially released in 2024. Sadly I’ve not found a film I love. I think The Substance is probably the ‘Best’ film but Yuck!… I wouldn’t classify it a favourite. “I Saw The TV Glow” was probably the film I liked the most.
@ Maybe you’ll find one in the new year. Yes, with The Substance I struggle with how narcissistic the Moore/Qualley character is, which maybe a misread on my part but still. Meanwhile I loved her Revenge even more. I loved that I Saw the TV Glow gave me such memorable moments and I really liked both main actors but I didn’t love it overall . Bird would definitely now go in my top 10
Decent list there matey.. some I've seen and some I'm wanting to see but not seen as yet.. I'm like a lot of people and don't do the cinema anymore.. people tend to irritate me so I'd rather watch from the comfort of my own home on the firestick then buy physical if I enjoy it 😁👍
Thanks, Marcus. Yes I have heard you say before you’re not keen on going to the cinema any more. Hopefully at least some movies for your watchlist. Best wishes for your Christmas and New Year
Hi Neil. I do enjoy a ranking list. I've only seen a handful. It takes me ages to catch-up. I really enjoyed The Substance and Challengers. Longlegs I thought was terrible. I'm with you on that one. Have a great Christmas mate.
Interesting ranking of your movies for sure Neil. Makes lots of sense towards the top and a few that I was recommended by a few other people during the week (ie My Old Ass and Good One). Started Crossing earlier in the day so I'll have to get that finished tonight but its themes and styling are right up my street. Thanks and Happy Christmas to you and family
Hi Chris! I hope you get to finish and enjoy Crossing, that was definitely a surprise delight of the year. I came for Aubrey Plaza in My Old Ass but stayed for Maisy Stella, who is just great. And Good One absolutely has a quiet power if you’re patient enough, with a very effective third act. I hope all going well with you. Have a great Christmas. Thanks for watching
Well Neil, I have seen none of these movies. But some I would like to see. The most recent movie i have seen is It Ends With Us. I don't remember if you have seen that or not? But I liked it. I enjoyed your video!!!
Oh dear. Well thanks still for watching. No, I was not interested to see It Ends With Us but great if you enjoyed it, I know it has a passionate following because of the book
Great list Neil. I don’t get a chance to go to the movies anymore with a 14 month old daughter and these high prices in Canada. I try to catch new releases but much harder for me and I don’t have any subscriptions. I also can’t afford to be buying too many movies so I usually wait for a 4k. If I had to do a top 10 of what I’ve seen, I’d say Dune, monkey man, first omen, alien Romulus, challengers, substance, azrael, love lies bleeding, longlegs, Abigail. Wow that’s a boring list lol
Hi. Very belated congrats on your daughter and I can well imagine there’s little spare time to watch movies let alone afford cinema going and all the streaming services. Personally I would choose a different option than 4K at least for now, those are not cheap. If you have a library card, strongly suggest Kanopy where you can then watch 5 movies a month at no cost. Very good selection including Criterions, world cinema and many other genres. You can also often find 30 day promotions for Mubi…..Just rewatched Alien Romulus this evening and still find it very enjoyable. Best wishes to you and your family for Christmas and New Year.
merry christmas to you and your family Neil! enjoyed your list, I will admit I'm not a huge fan of current films, I find today's cinema very depressing and toxic, but I will watch costner's horizon, my 2 favorite 2024 movies were Oddity and Caddo lake
Hi. It seems you are not alone in feeling like that. I do think though that there are some “healthy” ones out there, I’ve enjoyed a lot of variety this year and some in my top 10 were great surprises. I don’t have Shudder nor Crave but will keep an eye out for Oddity and Caddo Lake. Thanks for your support and best wishes for your Christmas and New Year
Hi Neil, I’ve seen a fair few of those and some I’m waiting on the blu-ray release are are due out next month 🤔 I’m hoping Horizon is going to get a physical release over here in the UK as it has an American and German blu-ray…if it doesn’t I will definitely import it. Fair enough with Long Legs, watching a movie when your unwell certainly can make a difference (I speak from experience 🤒) take care mate👍🎅🏻👍
Thanks, Alan. As much as I loved Horizon, at this stage it’s hard to actually recommend it as it’s not a stand alone movie, chapter 2 has been made but not released and financing for chapters 3 and 4 remain very uncertain so if and when those will get made is not guaranteed despite Costner’s wishes for the saga. All the best
Great list Neil 😀🍿🎸🎶 That’s awesome we got the same No.1 fav film of the year mate; ‘Anora’ was a fantastic time at the cinema 🤩 A lot of movies here I not seen nor heard of; but I definitely need to take a look at those films; never knew there was a Beach Boys Biopic 🏄🏝️ ‘Crossing’ was really good mate; very underrated film that 😀👍 I need to check out ‘Revenge’ as I absolutely loved what the director did with ‘The Substance’ 🤩 Keep up the awesome work Neil and have a great 2025 😀🍿🙌🎸🎶 Oh love the T-Shirt btw 🙌
Thanks, Sam. Yes, Anora was very much my number 1. I was really impressed that you had seen Crossing. The Beach Boys doc is on Disney Plus but I’m a big fan and have seen Brian Wilson twice and found the documentary pretty lacklustre. Revenge is a wild ride that I have enjoyed more and more with each watch, I’m hoping The Substance will grow on me (not that I dislike it). All the best for your 2025, you do a great job at championing BFI and Mubi releases
@@neilsmoviechannel3199 thanks so much Neil 😀🙏🍿🎸🎶 Hope you have a great 2025 aswell and I love the MUBI label; possibly my fav Boutique label/ modern distribution company 🤩 BFI are fantastic Neil mate; I pre ordered that Kurosawa double pack on 4K coming out in March; still need to get ‘Ikiru’ and the two films that are coming out next month ‘Stray Dog’ & ‘High & Low’ 😀👍
Really interesting list. I need to see a few more before I make my list (given that I just gave you my list of how far back I have dvds after a year) and so I should have my best of 2024 ready sometime in 2027... I just got 3 free months of Apple+ tv, so am cramming in the 2024 movies they offer... I think tomorrow will be The Investigators.... And don't worry, I really didn't like Longlegs either... I thought the explanation of events was a real letdown and really made no sense to me.
Thanks. I’ll check my inbox in 3 years then for your list haha….The Instigators (which I saw at a friend’s place) was low on my list but still I enjoyed it, just not very memorable. Hope you enjoy it. Have a great Christmas and New Year
I have seen 18 of those, the theater is the best way to see a movie in my opinion. I love physical media, but I do stream movies as well. I agree with you on Longlegs it did not work for on the first watch I need to watch it again. I loved Horizon glad I got see in a theater. I did not like Dune 2 that much, Furiosa, In a Violent Nature, Ungentlemanly Warfare, Caddo Lake and MADS are some of my favorites that I have seen.
Hi. Glad to hear you have seen a good number of these. I think 3 of those you mention are on Shudder, which I don’t have. Thanks for watching and best wishes for your Christmas and New Year
Imagine casting a Mad Max movie and Anya Taylor Joy's name comes up. Of course, she of the elegant neck and spaghetti arms who has never lifted anything heavier than a handbag. STOP IT.

Three movies I enjoyed not on your list from this year was Cuckoo, Smile 2 & Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 😊
Thanks. I avoided Beetlejuice Beetlejuice but will get to Cuckoo and Smile 2 at some point
Maxxxine as well
Don't watch a lot of new movies if I do they would be bought 💿 a few months after or a year later. 😊 I did see alien Romulus at the cinema,
Well thanks for making me feel like that video was worthwhile then lol. Have a great Christmas Stuart
@neilsmoviechannel3199 you know me mate I love the old classic and no so classics lol 🤣 have a good Christmas Neil mate 👍🏻
My old ass was soo good
Yes, a real surprise delight. Loved Maisy Stella’s performance.

She was excellent in the film but definitely not an obvious choice
