Hi Neil, You really got to see some great things at the BFI National Archive. The Special Collections Unit sounds like great fun too. I enjoyed your video very much. I remember that movie called Darling. Also very cool that your sister got to see director Derek Jarman's house! Now I'm anxious to see who you met! I must learn patience! I hope your week is fantastic!

Thanks, Neil, for this quite interesting survey. I do fondly remember 'Bugsy Malone', seeing it as a lad myself upon its original theatrical release--the Seventies are often seen as a time when musicals fell in the doldrums, but there were actually some very spirited examples of the genre appearing in those years, this charming children's film not being least among them. Especially curious to see and hear about the materials pertaining to Derek Jarman, probably still Britain's preeminent example of an avant-garde filmmaker. His evocative memoir 'Dancing Ledge' is a book that has left me with much food for thought over the years. And Wendy Toye is a wholly new name to me, so I'm excited to have my cinematic horizons broadened yet more.

Hi Barry. Always good to see your comments, thank you. I must admit I didn’t like Bugsy Malone when I saw it as a kid but ironically enjoy it a lot more nowadays…..Derek Jarman it seems kept a lot of large scrap book style diaries, filled with musings, poetry, cuttings and ephemera. As mentioned, my sister has been able to visit his modest house in Dungeness, which is now used as a partial museum and b&b….Wendy Toye was a former ballerina and choreographer who then got into film and tv and made some comedies and dramas. Quite a short lived career and a number of her films aren’t readily available.

Hi Neil another fascinating video. Thanks for sharing this trilogy with us. Whicker's World was staple viewing when we were kids.

Fascinating video Neil, I remember Alan Wicker very well, he was very British indeed, oddly enough I watched a program on him a few weeks ago, I hadn’t thought about him for decades and now that’s twice his name has popped up 🧐 Ko Stark is another blast from the past , I will look out for the 12 Days Of Christmas film on RUclips, sounds good 👍 I’m loving these videos mate, take care👍😃👍

Hi Alan. Yes likewise when I was at the presentation it made me realize Alan Wicker had been out of mind for ages, yet certainly found him interesting and fascinating when on tv when younger……On the twelfth day is a short, absurd bit of fun for when you’re in the Christmas mood and want something a bit different to the usual Christmas films. Thanks for watching

I hear often you are a fan of John Guillermin. Are you also a fan of J.Lee Thompson? His early brittish films are so good.

Hi. Yes, I have a particular interest in John Guillermin and have tracked down all of his films except for two….But yes, I do like J Lee Thompson films very much. I’m a big fan of Tiger Bay and Yield to the Night, and Northwest Frontier was actually the very first film I saw at the cinema (bizarrely on a double bill with Digby the Biggest Dog in the World). The Wild Buffalo is also one that I find fascinating. I may do a video on his filmography at some stage as this has come up a few times now. Thanks for watching and commenting

@@neilsmoviechannel3199 Ice Cold In Alex is my favourite, with of course Cape Fear. A shame he lost his artistic ambitions later in his career.
