Holoskian 5G will come out in 2020, then 6G around 2025, by 2030 it should be 7G. I’m not sure the 4G network is still around by then. There will be so many apps that iPhone X can’t run because iPhone X has obsolete iOS. If Apple keep their pace of upgrade, then we should see iOS 28 in 2034. Most app may require like iOS 25 to run and iPhone X maybe only be able to upgrade to iOS 17 or iOS 18, iOS 19 if it is lucky.
2G phones won't even make phone calls or even text, since AT&T shut down all 2g services on January 1, 2017. Keep that in mind when watching this video in 2018.

it is funny how this iPhone had so much room for a headphone jack that many couldn't fit. now apple just removed it even though there was a lot of room on the smaller, less powerful iPhone
João, I can guarantee that you can use even the earliest iPhone which can access the Apple store and it won't feel slow. I could also say you can use the original iPhone and it won't feel slow, but that's not a fair comparison because there's not much you can install there.
John Reyes Its called not giving a shit once they have got your money.I want something to come along and blow these greedy fuckers out of the industry.
It would be interesting to see a 2019-2020 version of this video. In my opinion, this phone is still being a valid option if you want a pretty basic experience and dont bother to not have any access to recent apps, you know, texting and calling people and taking photos sometimes
I'm an android user. Yet after looking at your video I was impressed with your unbiased treatment of what I consider a problem with technology. A lot of people think of their technology more in terms of social status. You bring it down to earth by reminding the viewer that it is the tools in the toolbox that count. If you can survive on an older version of a phone, and in general use it for most of your daily needs, then the idea of dropping nearly a grand for the latest one is more vanity than practicality. I have in fact seen these earlier iPhone models in use now and then. It always brings back warm memories of my first smartphone. I use my phone for just about everything. So I do feel a sense of nostalgia and definitelybhave memories attached to each one. Great video! Cheers.
@Khoa Tran If you’re talking to Iliketoast, then you might want to think about this for a moment. That comment was posted 5 months ago- that’s late 2018, not 2019. On top of that, they literally stated “last year” (from the perspective of someone living in 2018, of course), meaning that they got the iPod in 2017.
@asiandoestech that's because you are a Nokia fanboy and I'm an Okia fangirl. The truth is that the camera should have gotten a pass not a question mark because the camera works. That's all it matters not how good the camera is. Besides, Commodore has nothing to do with what we like to do.
Oh, the horror! Hahaha, I have been regularly using an iPhone 3GS (not quite as old, but almost) for 4 years now, and it is more than capable of accomplishing any need I have. There is no real purpose to blowing away money on a new smartphone. Hell, my 3GS will probably be better than the latest iPhone since I can still use my headphones :P
Budasteelers1 I said I can still use *my* headphones. You can't use 3rd party headphones on the newest iPhone, you need to buy special headphones exclusively for the iPhone that are incompatible with any other device.
Ben Bluetooth headsets are generally more expensive than wired headphones. Why shouldn't I be able to use my current headphones? Why should I have to buy from Apple or use Bluetooth?
While it was comparable to the typical cell phone camera of the era it wasn’t a great camera or the best available back them but since most cell phones cams weren’t great people didn’t complain. These days we expect even s,art to have goods cameras so we complain when they don’t. Much like how I wasn’t complaining about 56k dial-up Internet access when that was the nor. But I would these days even had to deal with such a slow Internet connection, say at a Starbucks, because I’m used to having faster speeds and besides most internet sites need a fast broadband connection; to load in any reasonable time frame or even be usable at all (such as RUclips).
"I can _get by_ with this phone" *_GET BY_* Me: 0.0 . . . dude. I'm the only high school student who probably still has one of those old slide phones, an Ipod Shuffle 4th GEN and a laptop at home. That means: I don't check my email on the go, I don't take pictures left and right, and I don't Imessage everyone And does anyone else find it sad when I say "my Ipod doesn't have internet" I pull out the little square, and someone says, it should have internet...
Adadave7521 Eh, not stupid, you just didn't think of something. Nothing wrong with that. And your original sentiment isn't wrong either, that we all can *get by* without a modern smartphone.
Wow really? Most people think using the iPhone 5 is a horrible experience, and you think using an original iPhone is somehow "acceptable"? Hell even the "newer" iPhone 4 and 4S are painfully slow (unusable) and pretty much useless by today's smartphone standards... That's the issue with Apple, once their devices are obsolete (usually due to one too many updates being pushed onto the device, which makes the phone painfully slow and unusable), they're basically useless bricks... Texting would be a fail since the vast majority of iPhone users use iMessage. Apps and games would be a fail as well considering your only option is a blackmarket app store with ancient versions of a VERY limited number of apps and games, and even still, performance is horrible... For music, most people these days don't even store music on their devices, they use Pandora or other streaming services, which are absent from either app stores available to this device... So again, another fail... Movies, streaming options are out (which again, the vast majority of people use), so again, another fail... Camera and video, you're not comparing the original iPhone to dumbphones from 7+ years ago, you're comparing it to today's smartphones (or at least smartphones released in the last 2-3 years), you even said so yourself at the beginning of the video... Also, there were plenty of dumbphones and feature phones released long before the iPhone with great cameras, or at least MUCH better cameras than what you get in the original iPhone... So again, it's a fail... That leaves only 3 out of the 9 categories that passed (calls, email and connectivity), the other 6 are all failures... Not to mention, you jailbroke the device, had it been stock, it would have been completely unusable from the very beginning...
***** I have a HTC One M7. I don't experience any lag. Even with a lot of processor intensive games. I plan on upgrading to an S6 next month. The M2 is a budget phone and is no where near the experience you get from a flagship phone. Apple only makes flagship phones that is why Android has much more marketshare. You can't get a new Iphone for less than 600 if you want one new.
I distinctly remember me downloading this video on my trustworthy Galaxy Y, so that I could watch it more often. I dont know what made me like it, but this was one of the most liked videos of me back in the time! The 8 bit guy was the ibook guy then! Good old times!
I think that the assumption is that you use your phone as a portable computer, which a huge number of people do. I would agree that the effects of the mobile market on the rest of the computer market have been negative in a lot of ways (shallow mobile games, playing a large part in ending Moore's Law), and that it's really annoying when people take out their phone when they're in your company, but I also have to admit that it can be convenient when you need a map, want to make a purchase in advance, want to find information on something, or are killing time away from home.
Changing the firmware, changes the video title hands down! No excuses, no buts, no anything!! Perhaps you feel differently, so tell us why you feel differently. I always like your videos, so I will guess you are better at computer tech than computers, and there is nothing wrong with that.
The iPhone 3G in actuality has almost the exact internal hardware as the 2G, the only reason it’s a somewhat better option is that it supports 3G networks over being limited to simply 2G which has since been killed. Either way, the 3GS or 4 is the best choice for a burner phone.
Nah, 3GS/4 is too old and they don't have 3G, maybe get like a 5s, at least that can run iOS 12. Or just get a cheapo Galaxy S4/S5 and custom ROM it. I just got an S5 which will be my burner phone once I get LineageOS on it. I have a 5s but I think the battery is shot and it's iCloud locked.
Oliver Halenius you can rarely find them with os 1 you would have to downgrade your computer from windows ten to windows Xp and it would be super annoying
There was no iPhone 20 it goes IPhone IPhone 3g (named after 30 cell service) IPhone 3gs IPhone 4 IPhone 4 S IPhone 5 IPhone 5 C IPhone 5 S IPhone 6 IPhone 6 Plus
This just came up in my recommended videos, I remember watching it years ago. Funny seeing it now that you can’t even activate the 2g on any US carrier now, or the 3g for that matter.
My first Iphone was an Iphone 4, best design for an Iphone. Full glass and metal body, had the desired weight when used in one hand, it feels solid to use. Then when Steve Jobs died, everything in Iphones went to shit. The software began to lag and the built in apps were not what they used to be. So, I switched to Android. HTC is now my beloved phone.
It doesn't matter. The whole point of this video was to live with an iPhone 2 and just that people expected to see the iPhone 2 with its stock software not some cheap shit that he probably got sponsored to show off
The point of the video was to see if the HARDWARE was obsolete, not the software. He was testing if the hardware was still capable of running tasks that would be considered reasonable to expect on new newer phones. He upgraded the firmware, but the actual hardware is the ultimate bottleneck and that was left unaltered.
In the days of no front facing camera, I remember standing or sitting in front of a mirror so that the person I was video chatting with could see me (in the mirror) while I could see them in the phone's screen.
Off contract you can now get iPhone 5C 8GB for just $299. I wouldn't recommend iPhone 3G or 4 as they don't support iOS8, and the 4S is ending with iOS8. The iPhone 5C is affordable, is active in support until November 2016, and will be getting iOS9 in November 2015. The 5C I got this month is my first smartphone (though I opted for 2013's no-longer-in-production 16GB model as 8GB simply isn't enough for me), and I'm totally in love with it.
Robotico Apple hasn't said it will yet, and the iPhone 3GS ended with iOS 6.1.6, the iPhone 4 ended with 7.1.2... Optimism is nice, but logic says iPhone 4S ends with iOS 8.4.#.
Robotico That's so hard to believe, because the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 are struggling horribly enough with iOS 7/8 as it is... iOS 9 on those devices will run far worse than any "final" iOS on older devices.
Installing whitedoor ruined this test from the start. The whole test was to see if the stock original was obselete or not...installing something that came out later nullifies the entire point of the video...
I thought that was a full sized sim card. As far as I understand the iphone 2g has the same sized sim as flip phones. the 4 and 4s had micro and the 5 and beyond had nano
I like 8 bit guys editing style. The graphics and sounds are like 90’s quality but not in a bad way. In a nostalgic way. I’m not sure if that’s on purpose considering this is a retro nostalgic tech channel although it’s pretty likely it is, or if that’s just what 8 bit guy is used to and uses editing software with resources he’s always used since those early days. Either way it’s kind of cool. It’d be interesting to see videos recorded, edited, rendered, as well as audio all using older technology. Not too old that the quality is horrible. But very well popular equipment for its time and still can hold up to today’s standards. However far back you’d have to go
I like the 2g idea quite a bit. If you can get your hands on one, you should compare it to an original Motorola Droid, since it was the first "iPhone killer"
This video is closer to the release of the iPhone 2G than it is to the present day.

Now try using a 10+ year-old Android phone today.
João, I can guarantee that you can use even the earliest iPhone which can access the Apple store and it won't feel slow. I could also say you can use the original iPhone and it won't feel slow, but that's not a fair comparison because there's not much you can install there.

@asiandoestech that's because you are a Nokia fanboy and I'm an Okia fangirl. The truth is that the camera should have gotten a pass not a question mark because the camera works. That's all it matters not how good the camera is. Besides, Commodore has nothing to do with what we like to do.
Nope, it was pretty bad. Take a look at the pictures from a Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot from even before 2007 for comparison.

There is no real purpose to blowing away money on a new smartphone. Hell, my 3GS will probably be better than the latest iPhone since I can still use my headphones :P
Karl Hiramanek You can use headphones on the 7.
Budasteelers1 yeah but does it have a headphone jack IN THE DEVICE?
Budasteelers1 I said I can still use *my* headphones. You can't use 3rd party headphones on the newest iPhone, you need to buy special headphones exclusively for the iPhone that are incompatible with any other device.
Karl Hiramanek Not true, any bluetooth headset works, and the earbuds themselves are cheap.
Ben Bluetooth headsets are generally more expensive than wired headphones. Why shouldn't I be able to use my current headphones? Why should I have to buy from Apple or use Bluetooth?

Spell check

Hi
Hi from 5050
mmhmmm
Hi from 2019.
Android Phones last much longer. They won't lag after a few years
***** my brother and sister and mother all have an iphone. Trust me I know that their phone lag.
***** which one
Amethyst Celia android didnt beat iOS until late 2012. Before that I phones were better.

This definitely needs a revisit, iPhone 5 for a week in 2023

This just came up in my recommended videos, I remember watching it years ago. Funny seeing it now that you can’t even activate the 2g on any US carrier now, or the 3g for that matter.
My neighbors phone has 2g edge it has T-Mobile. So there is still 2g
The camera was passable for the time.

Yeah that's not really living with the iPhone2 if you use newer software
It doesn't matter. The whole point of this video was to live with an iPhone 2 and just that people expected to see the iPhone 2 with its stock software not some cheap shit that he probably got sponsored to show off
come to think of it, this guy is a piece of shit.
10 years have passed. Do it again. 😉

The 4s is getting IOS 9 :P
Robotico Apple hasn't said it will yet, and the iPhone 3GS ended with iOS 6.1.6, the iPhone 4 ended with 7.1.2... Optimism is nice, but logic says iPhone 4S ends with iOS 8.4.#.
The 4s will get iOS 9. Apple didn't dropped any device this year.
***** well i heard that all devices with iOS 8 are getting iOS 9 as it is lighter
Robotico That's so hard to believe, because the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 are struggling horribly enough with iOS 7/8 as it is... iOS 9 on those devices will run far worse than any "final" iOS on older devices.
Fun fact: This video came out closer to the launch of the iPhone 2g than today.

I regularly have to remind myself that the iPhone launched without 3G support when 3G was already years old and _4G_ was fast approaching.
