Anyone know when this insuffererable type of comment is going to go away?

Probably one of your best videos. The content, camerawork and the challenging nature of the repair were excellent. It’s a great thing to see a piece of tech history come back to life.
Love seeing old tech restored. So satisfying.

@@extremedoopy9972 time has changed and now the very first smartphone ever is called retro. My galaxy a12, oppo a53, redmi 9 prime and nokia g10 will soon become the grandpa's of smartphone in a few years.
Battery does deplete but I made sure to own a few smartphone, so I wouldn't rely on a single one. Also no Battery hungry apps like pubg or genshin impact. I'm not the type of user that changes smartphone every year anyway

finally! I have been searching for so long to try and find more iPhone 2g restoration videos, and one from the best restoration channel is amazing!
i like how people say great video after the video came out 33 seconds ago
BeyondTheSole lmao it soo tru tho
I said great vid 17 minutes after it came out lol
some videos are uploaded on other platforms first, or made available on youtube premium first.
they slowed down time and watched it within 33 seconds
@@mohammed.baig. wouldn’t slowing down time make the video longer?

Bought one of these 6 years ago as it was my first phone, and still works to this day.
I’ve literally been waiting for this since your 2018 room tour when you showed these in your repair pile
I'll be attempting this exact same restoration in a few days time, thanks so much for this guide!

Beautiful restore. I still have one of these sitting in my room in its case. A friend gave me one around iphone 5 I believe and I used it for mp3s only, but put hard case around it, clip case and screen protector so its still pretty mint, very minimal scratches. Didn't think they were worth anything though!
"is often referred as first smartphone" while I was using Symbian based smartphone back in 2006.
I'm sure Hugh meant to mention "first modern smartphone"
@@kbhasi Yeah, but still pretty much only difference was lack of touch screen and centralized app store, while these phones had 3G already and were much easier to repair.
Kevin Bhasi absolutely no discussion about it. Apple completely changed the definition of what the smartphone was.
The first iPhone had really limited features when it was released. The App Store didn't exist until a day before the second iPhone (3G) was released so you wasn't able to install any 3rd party apps. You only had the things that the phone came with. It didn't even have video recording, MMS (popular back then), file manager, multitasking, 3G, WiFi hotspot, bluetooth file transfer (popular back then) and many other things.
Nokia already had a some kind of App store on Symbian smartphones and of course you were able to get apps from web sites. There was also some Symbian UIQ smartphones from Sony etc. with touchscreen and of course Windows Mobile smartphones
@@kbhasi There was nothing not modern prior to the iPhone.
I still remember the first time I laid hands on this device. Some of my friends' family just returned from the us with a simlocked iphone. The only way to unlock that and flash it so it can use any sim was basically to connect two traces together so the phone could be rooted. That was the jankiest stuff I've ever pulled on one of these but it did work in the end, and the person was super happy except for the slightly bent frame. Of which I can see you also are having some trouble with :D
Love your channel❤ giving so much information about phone's!! Have watched every single video's great work ✌🤗❤

Sounding positive there mate!! Cheering us all up. Interesting seeing these old ones being repaired. The design is just a world away from today's restrictive, tri-winged tricky "can't do anything because otherwise we'll stop your features from working" designs such as any of the newer no home button iPhones or even just iPhone 7 or 8s. That why I enjoy stripping down a four every so often just to keep my hand in it while I have no newer projects.
Officially, you're one of my favorite RUclipsrs out here!
Great video❗️if I ever needed an iPhone repaired I would love for you to repair it, your work is outstanding 👍✅👏
Woah I'm early! Keep up the great content Hugh and thank yuo for getting me back into repairs! (:

Hey Hugh, big fan! Do you think you could make a series about taking old tech current/making it usable today? I have an old mid 2000s iMac and I’d love to see your take on if I can bring it back to life, or if I should throw it away
Hell yeah.
great video broo watching you from algeria
Love the video ones like these are really helping me
From 2007. It's so crazy to think about it. At that time I believe I had a clambshell and I felt like this was modern.
To be fair, smartphones existed years before the iPhone even came out.

The title is misleading. The iPhone wasn’t the first smart phone it was just the most innovative for the time
@@techied Not true, my first smartphone was i-Mate Jam and it had more "smart" features then original iPhone and it was released 3 years prior to iPhone
@@techied Your point doesn't make sense. You are trying to disprove my thought using evidence that actually proves it? Even if you can't point to something and say "That was the first smart phone," we can agree it diffidently wasn't the iPhone.
@@techied That's just what it looks like, by me saying the iPhone wasn't the first smart phone and you saying you can't define the first smart phone. Just looks like either an iPhone fanboy or Hugh Jeffreys fanboy. But okay if that's what you meant then I feel dumb lol.
This is not the first smartphone, this is just first iPhone.
Dude you are the best!!!!!

How is this "the first smartphone"? Amazin' technology knowledge right here.
Ikr, rip Symbian.
"First ever real smartphone"
Nah mate, not by a longshot. I guess most people didn't even have a smartphone until the iPhone launched, and with how iconic it is that's how it seems.
it is amazing to know people think that the iphone was the first smart phone, and there was other smartphones that could do more than the first iphone years before
I had 2G in 2005 with my nokia 6680 while iPhone was still 2G in 2007
That classic RUclips logo brings back some memories haha
The first ever smartphone was the palm’s Treo, starting from the “180º to the last model the “Pro”, (the firs iPhone was a direct competitor of this one). When palm sinked down, apple bought most of it’s product patents, the most famous was the quick silence action switch (the Treo had it at the top instead the side location on the iPhone) and the capacitative two parts touch screen. However nowadays the iPhone become a totally different gadget and it’s awesome, now it’s a referent of how a mobile phone hato be. After owning 6 different treo models, I got ,y first iPhone, my first one was the same of the video, and I loved it from the first moment, i got really amazed for the easy way to “synchronize” it whit my power book just like my iPod, and now I can simply live without apple products, and your videos every Saturday afternoon
This is iPhone 2g where this phone was era of Steve Jobs. I really miss him. He's better CEO although he doesn't like people to repair their device :(

Smartphones existed long before the iPhone was invented lol.
Yes, even the Lg Prada was out before that... They did not change the course of mobile devices. iPhone did.
@@disco.lemonade "Change the course of mobile devices." Everyone loves to forget about Blackberry which was so addicting and popular that they were referred to ask Crackberries. And yes, they were smartphones, long before iPhone.
@@basic-decaf They did change it too, lol. But then did iPhone, and so far with a bigger, deeper impact. Has anyone done it again? Nope, we still live in a smartphone era marked by that first iPhone. Got it now?
@@disco.lemonade Far bigger, deeper impact? Lol. BlackBerry literally put e-mail in your hands. BlackBerry literally made companies mobile. You could work from your car and access the internet from.. your pocket. A single AA battery and the device would last for 3 weeks. BlackBerry changed everything, they revolutionized the world. That is what defines a "smartphone." And that's what we're talking about here, smartphones. E-mail, internet, from your pocket. Every smartphone in existence today is built off of that first BlackBerry. The only thing Apple did was put the keyboard in the screen.
@@basic-decaf never said they didn't contribute nor didn't have an impact. but have it your way.
Thanks for the great content

@@moizsiddikio4 Happy to help my friend. Have a good day
apple really didn't want you to know how they're devices work
Love it. I have one with some dead pixels at the bottom but it’s not affecting usability and not noticeable unless you’re looking for it. Based on how difficult this looked, I’m fine with the dead pixels lol
I still have mine which I bought new in late 2007. The screen had the grey blotch and touch wasn't working. I bought a brand new display from China and now it works perfectly. I still have the original box, dock etc too.
"Designed without repair in mind" well, there is nothing impossible for you!

im a little upset for this also Windows Mobile was awesome before iphone appears.
It's just not the same thing.
iPhone took the smartphone to a whole different level. That's a fact.
@@alessandrobellia2106 nothing to do with that, apple didn't invent smartphones, far from it.

Amazing video, it seems so difficult to disassemble...
God, these are the worst phones to fix. Hard to get into, have soldered on batteries and almost no parts are available
What an amazing look back in time to Apple's innovation under Jobs. I was always a big fanboy but they lost me after the 6 series. Nothing that new or revolutionary after that imo. But the original iPhone, the 4, and the 6 plus were amazing at their respective times
Wow! That's so cool!!
excellent video
4:42 the Plastic was Removed
8:27 the plastic was Removed again!?
These videos seem staged now.
You can tell he put it back on and removed it again because it’s curled up at the top of the phone at 8:27 , probably jus to protect the screen because he took it off while still assembling it
I agree with Tatum Amour
why restore it when you can just eat it
Wha
I can’t be the only one that has been waiting for this for like 3 years right?
Thanks for the tutorial as was invaluable to do the screen replacement on mine. That aluminium back is an absolute nightmare to get off and I’ve got a bit of panel beating to do before it goes back on as it got a bit bent up trying to pry it off! Want to keep the original back as sn matches the box as that’s important from a collector point of view.
Wow, i can still remember this phone being “the modern phone” i feel old now lol.
Especially considering this isn't actually the first smartphone.
