My favorites do largely overlap with this list but definitely not 100%. And not in the exact same order. I did a video kind of like that earlier this year. It was my favorite pick ups of 2020. Wasnt value based, just my favorite books I got that year.

Wow! That is a great list of books! With the prices now on those books, it's getting harder to get. That WW 1🔥🔥 Thanks for showing your top 50 Automatic. 👍✌
Thanks! I just started watching your video, you’ve got some incredible books. I went off the deep end a bit with LB Cole over the last 5 months or so. I’ve picked up quite a few of his horror and sci fi covers as well as one romance cover. I just really like his artistic style. Since I did this top 50 on value that one was the only book that ended up making it, but if I was going to make a top 50 favorite books video he’d have a bigger representation 😃.
Every LB Cole cover deserves to be in a top 50 lol. We only have that one, but want more for sure. He has a great style. We think some of those golden age horror Sci-fi books have the best art work in comics history. You should think about doing a video just for your LB Cole stuff.
@@hazeldan1216 After I made that comment above that same thing crossed my mind =). I was thinking maybe a precode horror/sci-fi/good girl art-type video.
Flash Comics #104? Holy cats! Now THAT is a rare book!!!! Great video! All-Star Line up of books! Do you only collect CGC books? Newsstand Bar codes seem to be a created part of the hobby now as I know many big dealers that started buying them up 10 years ago. When did you start collecting? Restored books, especially Golden_age NEED to lose the stigma of "Restored!" Great video once again!!!
Thanks! I think newsstand vs direct is just like any other variant in the hobby (Mark jewelers, price variants, etc). It’s just another area where with the advent of things like the CGC census and pricing services like gocollect, that allowed us as collectors to actually see the variations in these books and where rarity exists. And there will always be a segment of any collecting group that likes to focus on that rarity and will pay more for it. Like how ASM 301 in a 9.8 is so expensive just because there are so few of them, not for any particular “key” reason. I collected as a kid back in the 90s but only got back into it about 2.5 years ago. I don’t only have CGC books, but I chose to just show those for this video since it’s the easiest to measure value with a graded book. I have a few raws that would have made the list (e.g. FF5 and Suspense Comics 4). I definitely agree about restored books, especially those that are on the more rare side. I did a video a month or so ago about them and my thoughts on it. Thanks again for watching.
@@AutomaticComics I started collecting in 1970 and never once stopped! 51 years now and over 100,000 books.... It's a sickness!!!! Newstands are quite common, but it has been made to appear as harder to find. Fantastic Four #110 has a true variant, but so many are comics are "Created" and are not in anyway rare. Flash #104 is extremely difficult to find in any condition, even coverless, and you should be proud to own it!!!
That’s a lot of books =). With the newsstands it’s not about how common or rare the book is itself. It’s about how rare the book is in grade. The same as the ASM 301. Its not a rare book, but it is very rare in a 9.8. The same is true with newsstands. They are much more rare in high grade (9.4-9.8) than direct editions. That’s what leads to the price premium for high grade copies that are newsstands. This is the same with Mark jewelers or Canadian editions. It’s the rarity at high grade.
Just watched this now. This was fun to see how different your collection seems to have been back then compared to what we see you post now. How many of these do you still have?? I have some of those books but a far cry from fifty!
@@AutomaticComics well now you must tell me/us which ones? You had some incredible books, many I’d have wanted in those grades. Very curious to know which you’ve kept still or possibly upgraded?

SME15 will be an interesting one to watch. I agree with you, I don’t think it’ll follow the normal trend of peaking with the trailer. One reason being that it’s a relatively unknown character for a lot of people and they’re probably waiting to see how the movie does and they tie him into the MCU. But we’ll see. It can sometimes be tough to pull that trigger on those multi-thousand dollar books. I had to break my normal buying rules when I picked up that X-men 129 9.8, it was more than I would normally pay wrt it’s gpa. But I was just reading the tea leaves with that one and knew I wouldn’t have many more chances at it.
I was watching the Heritage auction last night and a 9.8 sold for $14,400. Someone was definitely sitting on that book waiting for the trailer to drop to put it up.
@@AutomaticComics Well, that'll make every print go even higher this coming week. Might be better to start selling some off prior to the movie release....market will be flooded by speculators soon....unloading their stock. I would've kept the 9.8 if I'd bought it.
