At the beginning when I saw videos of it I under rated it (compared to some of the other chinese instruments), but the ruan has a wide tonal range and is versatile. I have a zhongruan. I'm still gettin used to the body size.
I purchased a Pipa because I liked the sound it produced. Very much an Asian traditional sound. I sold it, though, because the string height on them is ridiculously high [measured about 8mm at the 12th fret, making it pretty hard to play well]. I considered a Ruan, but it sounds too much like a basic 6-string acoustic guitar. Looks very nice, though.
Similar to huqin, the ruan also comes in different sizes. This piece ruclips.net/video/tRntnLLHtA0/видео.html showcases gaoyinruan (high-pitched ruan), xiaoruan (small ruan), zhongruan (medium ruan), and daruan (large ruan), and each size sounds different.
@@MineyChen Thank you for the link! Yes, the higher pitched ruan do sound less like a traditional guitar. Actually, even the one in this video isn't exactly like a basic 6-string. There is enough difference. But I think I would like a gaoyinruan. Also, I did end up ordering another Pipa with lower string height. It's the instrument I like the most.....other than the Erhu. Hopefully this new Pipa will work better for me. It's still in transit.
Totally great! I have a Daruan as well and really trip over my own fingers. I never played guitar or any lute. I am much better with dan tranh. What notes are you using? Mine is dada . I tune from the thickest string to the thinnest. Best Wishes
Rafael Milhomem Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. The music score is available here: Page 1: bbs.yanzoujia.net/neirongqtyq/gqp/3696.htm; Page 2: bbs.yanzoujia.net/neirongqtyq/gqp/3696_2.htm; Page 3: bbs.yanzoujia.net/neirongqtyq/gqp/3696_3.htm. But the piece was written in numbered musical notation, so you might need some help reading it. It's easy to learn though.
Rafael Milhomem The tuning for my instrument is G, D, g, d. But for numbered notation, you want to take the first note of your scale (in this case: F) as 1. So for this piece, the first note 6 is the sixth note of the F major scale, which equals to d. The composer of this song is Lin Jiliang, who is also a Ruan musician.
I do not play pipa, but I do play liuqin. It looks like a small-sized pipa, and has bright and high-pitched tones. Here's a video for the liuqin with Chinese orchestra: ruclips.net/video/z-TYYjhLK5U/видео.html.
The name of the song is "flow". There's no single interpretation of it, but I think it means the notes shall flow smoothly throughout the entire piece.
其实我觉得这首曲子很不错,名称有点雅。而且传统乐器并不一定要拘泥于五声调式, 调式和乐曲的丰富对乐器的发展很有益。
This is so cool. Might want to try to learn as my first string instrument one day. Very beautiful sound
you can even tune it like a banjo or a mandolin to make it easier to play.
The sound that the 中阮 makes has an uncanny resemblance to that of a guitar.
Haha we meet again XP
@@고양이-w1h Hey there, Ryan!

Thank you for the sweet comment! :-)
how long have you been learning ruan and from who did you learn from?
syemurn c I had been learning it for 10+ years. Although I'm still playing, I do not take lessons anymore. I mostly learned from Prof. Wu Qiang.
musicalchen wow! directly from prof. wu qiang! where are you from and where are you based? teaching now?
syemurn c I'm from Shanghai, but I work and live in New York City now.
Nice! I play the ruan too. I really should try and learn this one.
Thanks for the comment! Surprised to see someone who loves Ruan and plays it in the states.

CivilHuqin It does take time. Hope you enjoy practicing and playing the ruan.
Thanks. I'll keep up with your videos. Feel free to check out mine and give some tips on my playing. I could use all the help I can get :)
CivilHuqin Sure, I will! :)
很棒
Isaac Albéniz and his Asturias approved that. The same melody
Very good!
好好
我这次的演奏会演奏这首曲子,来学习一下,没想到居然这么快🌚
Thanks! 😎

Wow this sounds so much like bach
Yes? Here is a real Bach piece played by a friend: Prelude from Bach's Cello Suite in G Major. ruclips.net/video/N3gqq6m_5ps/видео.html
wow thats a lot of notes

Haven't been back for a long time... I use GDGD, and for Daruan DADA is the most common tuning.
@@MineyChen Oh so 5ths in octaves. So CGCG would work as well.
@@dulcimoo Yes, and numbered notations make it easier to switch tones.
can I play this on guitar? it should be possibly theoretically
Yes, you certainly can. The only difficulty would be the score as the piece was written in numbered musical notation.
Hi! Congrats. What a nice piece! How can i fins this score? Thanks.

Many thanks. I think it's easy to read and hard to play. Is the tune G, D, g, d? I'd like to try to play this on "cavaquinho"!
Wow!! You're right. It's really dificult to read!!!!! :)

It looks Chinese, but it sounds very European!
