You can but it for around £3. Well worth it for nostalgia value. Map 8888x4 on world size 8 is pretty great. Set to hardest enemies with max of all resources and set yourself to minimum.
this game was always such a pleasure to play... and it's just as enjoyable to listen to someone else play. thank you for providing something nice to do some cross stitch to. :)
This friggin game... This music will forever play in my head. So will that "Yup." So many, many hours of memories. This game was a "fast forward" button away from perfect.
another game I remember from my childhood, my older brother borrowed it from a friend and xeroxed that entire manual of access codes required to start a new game
In terms of mechanical complexity & depth of gameplay, The Settlers puts the entire Anno series to shame =( Would love to see a faithful remake/improvement of this game,
Maybe this new one 2019 version will be something that we loved in first Settlers. Except combat because it will be way bigger than post to post combat 1 on 1

Absolutely loved this on Amiga. I kept my Amiga for years after it went out of fashion and it was only this and fantasy world dizzy I’d go back and play often. I’m finally getting my 1st pc and all I’m excited about is getting this again. That’s why I’m here checking out the pc version and what it’s like compared to the version I know and love. Looks exactly the same which I’m well happy about. The soundtrack was better the way the Amiga had it, part of the nostalgia was in the music so I guess that’s the only downside of the pc version. Still got the message today saying my pc has been dispatched and with the delivery people so fingers crossed tomorrow I’ll be playing this :) :)
I rember playing this when I was very young, I was too young to understand the dynamics of the game and just built settlements I thought looked good that inevitably ground to a halt
Remember first time. I had a german version: Die Siedler. Was a demo without this magnificent intro, but gave you the chance to play without saving. Spent hours un that demo. Sigh.
I used to love this game but again i have forgotten a lot about it, would you consider doing a video explaining the variables and parameters that can be changed and how this effects the games, reading the manual is one thing but to be shown via the aid of a video would be great for anyone. many thanks
remember this game, but still can't understand how to know where gold/iron mines should be built exactly... I know there was a special exploration, but I couldn't find where it was and how it runs...
@@cellmaleymhp Yes, learned some days ago, but it was a middle button, neither left nor right. That was a huge problem. Many options here in Settlers are run by middle button, we had not such mouse in those days, so this game was the only problematic one.
From playing it when it first came out, all I can say is that, it looks like it's the first time you've ever played it. Tactically it looked poor to me.
No words can describe how much I loved this game back in the day

Loved this game, remember getting in from school one day to find my Mum playing on it, she'd been sneaking on when I was in school and become hooked!
Sounds like you have a super cool mum. Cheers!
Man. How many times I had to leave my Amiga running so all the buildings would build overnight.

The DOSBox emulator adds the missing "button" ;-)
@@armchair_expert I only learned about that feature about a month ago. I've wasted so much time of my life waiting on serfs :(
The wee backflip the geologists did.
I am playing this game even to this day, it’s my go to game
I miss this game franchise so much. I used to play these all the time.
Me too! So relaxing.
Get the historical release on ubisoft. I just got settlers 1-7 and they all work fine on modern systems
Sound, atmoshpere, gameplay were all spot on. Back then it was just a couple of computer nerds creating games that they loved to play themselves.
Playing this again 29 years later and i cant get over the cute sound effects especially the geologist and the destruction of a site.

How? I want that!
@estomp6058 I went on goggle type settlers 1 download on win 10 and downloaded, i use Polish version
Im 40 and I want to pay The Settlers again
Still play this almost every day

Anno is fine too.
You can get the Settlers History edition from Ubisoft, they added 4x speedup which is nice, you will need Ubisoft Connect though.
lol, 1602 maybe
Those musics trigger an nostalgia overflow.

I remember the entire combination of elaborate complex strategy and humourous cartoonish art style, that is not something you see very often
Thank you! So much nostalgia.
Man, even the music stuck after 25+ years.
Amiga 500 and this game, what memories :D
The best memories. A shame what Ubisoft did to this franchise.
They wrecked it after 2 getting rid of roads.

This game needs to be re-released
In HD with online multiplayer
Even as a kid I thought this was so complicated and weird compared to Age of Empires
Hours and hours of fun, what a great game and series.
You send the geologist first before you build a mine.
For some reason this game reminds me of Lemmings. DOS era had excellent games!
i wonder why they failed to recreate the magic of this game so many times
I'd love to hear a refresher examination of what all the buildings are and more instructional information about the game.
Damn, I missed the the game and its music !
I’ve just started playing settlers 1 again how do I make the screen go out so I can see more buildings while I’m playing
First game I ever played back when I was around 11-12 years old I think it was in the year 98 watching this video sure brings back memories
How people didn't get insane listening to that soundtrack?

the most important thing to remember is the super click on the mouse. Hold the right button and while holding press the left one
NOSTALGIA OVERLOAD
