The very best, and most thorough cleaning tutorial for the Glowforge! I also agree with the comment regarding the voice over. This video is overall 110% awesome! 🥳
That's kind of you to say. I'm glad you found the video useful. Be sure to watch the addendum video and a more recent video I posted on how to clean the air assist for more info. There are others who have gone to great lengths to clean the exhaust fan and have documented their journey. You might want to check those out also. Thanks again. Best to you!
As dirty as this rascal was you are doing much more with your laser than you have time for tutorials, Nice to see someone using the tool and taking care of it. Thank you for taking the time to share these tips with us. I hope you have a blessed week. Dale
Great video, but I'd like to point out you have two more windows to Zeiss wipe. The first is on the left side of the head itself. The other one is inside the left side of the machine, just above where we can see your hand around the 4:57-5:00 mark of this video. If your Forge has been acting up and you haven't been cleaning that window it could be the culprit because the smoke gets drawn right past it so it gets dirty quickly.
Frickin' great video to Frickin' Laser Designs!! Appreciate the details you provided!! Excellent explanation and demonstration! I had been doing the level of cleaning suggested by GF, but when I found your video, jumped right in and now she looks like new again!! I agree with your comments about the fan. If GF could "fix" that, it would be sooooo much easier to clean! Maybe someday...
Very through explanation and great camera work as well! Just cleaned mine, but I also did the exhaust fan as it was just as dirty. it also looks like I will be replacing the exhaust hose as it is getting pretty laced with crud as well.
Thanks for posting this! I sell art and crafts on the side from mine and it has gotten really nasty, similar to yours. We're about to move it indoors from our garage setup (overheating) and we're going to deep clean it before bringing it indoors
Best of luck with the cleaning. Be sure to look on YT for other cleaning videos. I'm pretty sure I posted the first one, and I missed a few things by accident. I'm certain there are now videos that hit on those things. Again, best to you. Thanks for dropping by!
Mark, I don’t have any because I’ve not done it yet. When I do it, I’ll record it. I’ve read it’s a hassle and have been reluctant to do so until I know I need to. Thanks for watching.
Hi. I have two other videos that discuss cleaning. One covers the fan in the back (the Addendum video). It is an older video, much like this one. There are those who actually remove the fan, but it is more difficult and, depending on how you handle it, void your warranty. My second video covers the air assist. It is more recent. Thank for watching and commenting. Best to you!
I'm not sure what GF recommends. When I made the video they had little information on cleaning. Since then they have added more. Ultimately it is up to you. You certainly do not have to do it after every job. I think once a month (light to moderate use) would probably suffice.
I do mine every 20 hours of cutting or when it starts looking dirty. Different materials deposit different amounts of crap on it. One thing I do to make cleaning easier is that areas that get a lot of resin on them like the fold down flap on the front, I just cover it in wide masking tape, so I can just peel it off when it gets dirty. A lot easier than scrubbing the plastic and metal.
Yes. Admittedly though, despite the videos, I do not use it that often. Based on what I've seen and read, I'm getting nervous that my time will soon come. Thank you for visiting the channel. Check back in the next couple of weeks as I will be expanding the content of what I offer.
I do not have another machine. I simply don't laser as much as I did. When I do laser, it is for the purpose of a video or for small presents. When I first got it, I had a lot of things in mind, but they involved the passthrough. Years went by with no passthrough. They've just now gotten it to work. I imagine I'll be using it more again now that it's functional. Do you have a Glowforge?
@@MrChucklepuff , roger that. Good luck on the clean. I did this video before Glowforge posted any directives about cleaning and before others posted videos and such. With that said, be sure to look at other videos and compare. I know in this one I missed the air assist hiding behind/under the laser head. Take care.
This is completely off-topic but you’ve got the best voice-over voice. You could be doing amazing things with that voice of yours. 🙌🏼
That is very kind of you to say. Thank you. Best to you!
Thank you for sharing. My wife and I have been blessed to be gifted with a Glowforge from our son and are waiting for it to arrive. I appreciate you!
Dante, I appreciate your taking time to watch.

I found your version of the air assist cleaning to also be the best I’ve viewed. Thanks for referring me to the addendum video as well 👍
@@natural75beauty75 sure thing!

I did not know that. Thank you!

Great information! Thank you!
Thank you for watching.
Any videos about cleaning the heat-sink and exhaust fan?
Mark, I don’t have any because I’ve not done it yet. When I do it, I’ll record it. I’ve read it’s a hassle and have been reluctant to do so until I know I need to. Thanks for watching.
Very helpful. Thank you.
What about the fan in the back. How do you clean that.

Has this method been approved by glowforge? Would it void the warranty?
Frickin' great video! Thanks!
Thanks for stopping by!
how often do you need to do this? like after every job?

Can you ship to Canada? I need this!!
They should. See here: blog.glowforge.com/lasers-for-canada-glowforge-is-officially-launching-to-our-northern-neighbors/
So is your machine still working 2 years later?

Frickin' Laser Designs and Tutorials do you have another machine you use now or do you just not laser much period?
I do not have another machine. I simply don't laser as much as I did. When I do laser, it is for the purpose of a video or for small presents. Frickin' Laser Designs and Tutorials I have a basic. I’m getting ready for my first clean. I may get a larger machine down the road.

forgot the rear exhaust fan
You left out the air assist fan.
Thank you for your comment.
