I don't know if anyone else pointed this out, but there was another subtle callback to the original 1984 Ghostbusters. The scene where the kids are at the diner looking at the map and planning their next move... it was very reminiscient of the scene where the original GB's were in jail and discussing the Gozerian cult and the end of the world. As Egon is explaning the history all of the other guys in the jail are moving in closer and listening more intently. As the kids are in the diner planning their move, you see the other kids in the booths behind them turning around and listening in and paying closer attention in a similar way.
I absolutely loved this movie! I was in tears with that tribute to Harold and the movie just hit me in all the right feels. I was happy to be able to share it with my 6 year old daughter who loves the Ghostbusters!! I do hope there is more to come from the original crew before they pass the torch to the younger crew.

Jason Reitman was a kid roaming the sets of the first movies, he grew up in that world and it shows. The movie touches every moment we would want to see on a Ghostbusters movie from the perspective of a kid. It keeps things exciting when they investigate, test equipment, drive the Ecto-1 or capture Muncher. And the gunner seat was such a great addition to Ecto-1.

  • @SpcmnSpf22

My head cannon is that Egon purposely left his family tonot only protect them, but to ensure he had unfinished business so he could help prevent the next Gozer incursion. That's why he goes on at the end after reconcilling with his daughter.
I hope the teased sequal adapts The Real Ghostbuster's cartoon concept where they have to go inside the containment unit.

My whole family loved this movie! Me, who loved 1 and 2, and my fiance and kids who just loved this one on its own merit. A great balance of fan service and a rebranding of a franchise. I found myself geeking out out loud so I'm glad we went to the drive in so I didn't ruin anyone else enjoyment.
BTW we all enjoyed the girl's dad jokes most of all. I'm a big fan of dad jokes.

So, the movie states Shandor founded the town and designed it as a copy to the ancient map Egon had, that Gary nerded over and asked to keep. Gozer was a Sumerian god. Did Shandor name Summerville after Sumer and doubled the M so it blends right in with other common town names?

I seriously cannot believe how well this movie turned out. They make it look effortless. The whole thing just gives this warm, fuzzy feeling. It all ties back to the original and makes perfect sense and there's plenty of nods there for both hardcore fans as well as casual fans of the movies so everyone gets in on the fun. I hope it did well enough to get a sequel because I'd love to see everyone back busting ghosts in the future.
