I feel so bad for the guy and his mom. They didn't know a lot about the industry and ended up getting cheated on multiple occasions because of that.

Right? So this could be a lesson that you can't trust people's opinion about your look too much.
Many of these acting "Schools" here in the US have affiliates with plastic surgery clinics here and in Mexico. The schools get a certain amount of of the money for each person that they successfully refer for surgery. It should be illegal.
When they laughed at his statement with how unhappy he was with the surgery. "I don't want to live anymore" That's awful.

Something to keep in mind is that the money thing is kind of a cultural thing. ^^;; Generally, in East Asia (I can't speak for Korea or Japan since I'm Chinese, but I find generally the same thing-) it's more accepted that you ask you parents for moeny or they support you until you're well on your feet. Paying for tuition is kinda a norm for parents, but the children are expected to "pay it back" but taking good care of them when they're old. However it can get kinda...frustrating. ^^;

Lol, This sounds like a pyramid scam to me. Going into the business, not just acting; anything to be a celebrity, the company that you're SIGNED with is supposed to pay for those services. Nobody pays $4,000 for head shots. They are definitely naive, but not in a negative way. I do think they're victims, because older, and people in need, tend to fall for these kind of scams. It's sad.

I think he looks not bad but fake. Our country has so many cases like this,or maybe all of them. Most girls look pretty after surgery but you can tell that it is fake at first glance. It looks so unnatural with deep scarring. So hard to say if its successful surgery or not.
I agree, I was expecting something worse but it wasn't even that bad. Imo he needs to get like a therapist or something, not being mean but let's be real here, he's really self-concious about his looks and is worried about what other people will think of him when they see him, he needs someone to tell him that he's fine just the way he is and to not care about what others think. It could be just normal people telling him that but it would be easy to brush off. He's gonna realize the reality and it will hit him harder when an actual professional is telling it to him. My brother experienced the same thing (not the scammed part, the self-concious part because he was secretly bullied in highschool), I gave him advice but he just ignored it and went to a therapist. The therapist said the exact same things I did but since he's a professional my brother finally listened.

They do look unnatural but they are not that bad. I actually know a girl who had a bad eyelids surgery like him, they look okay in pictures but very unnatural irl. That might be this guy case too.

The counselors made him look bad here. After all it's because of judgemental society of the South Korean that makes South Korean conscious on their looks. Another thing is they got scammed, obviously he felt depressed because all the hardship of his parents became null all of the sudden and he can't take the damage that's why he locks himself. You can't really understand depression unless you once or still suffering it. 😩

That's exactly how parents should reply to their kids. I find it shocking that a lot of Korean parents actually encourage their kids to get plastic surgery. This mom was actually trying to be a good parent.

@roy stal, not all plastic surgery is bad... i was born with a very small / no chin and it looked horrible. Plastic surgery (which i'm planning on getting) would change it so much for the better. But if people like this guy do plastic surgery when it;s not even needed that is just dumb.
@Lanni Vi, sounds great but that's not how it works. It's the cruel reality that ugly people are ugly and will get judged for being ugly and treated less than good looking people. You can say all that matters is the inside but that's just being idealistic, the world does not work like that.
He hated her because he met those people through her but yet have her pay for acting class, tution, multiple surgeries, everything to be on his merry way towards his dream... what a damn brat is all I got to say! Usually I get very frustrated against people concerned when watching this show, but I don't feel this frustration toward the son. He first recognise that he didn't know his mother was suffering too and I'm sure he felt sorry. I can also understand that he locked himself up, it's not really a solution but sometimes you just need to cut yourself from the world when you're not feeling great.
And it's not her mother's fault. I can't feel any irritation toward them, I was just sad.

Just like to say for those who say plastic surgery is still big in korea, its actually on the decline. Im currently finishing my CT2 training for cosmetic surgery and outlet statistics clearly show a steady decline maybe because its become a saturated market. Common trend is growing in korea for more natural beauty.

Very true! It's really annoying when people always shit talk about Korea being fake because it has the highest rate of plastic surgery but what they don't realize is that millions of foreigners come to korea to get plastic surgery and that feeds into the plastic surgery "rate".

To me it's not his fault . The doctor is the idiot one That make his eye look like that but the fact that he want to have his surgery to is his fault since we don't know the future so we don't know the after surgery you just willing to have it and if it fail it can be the doctor fault or your own fault for having a risk to have surgery

It's not entirely his fault. His acting teachers told him that his eyes wouldn't look good on TV so if he hadn't met those awful teachers then the thought of surgery wouldn't pass his mind.
Charity Peter He should have done more research (doctors) and gotten 2nd opinions (about need for plastic surgery). I wouldn't trust acting teacher's opinion. If he is so good (knowledgeable), why isn't he (teacher) an actor himself?

This was probably the saddest Hello Counselor episode I've ever watched T.T. To be fair, though, he looked good before, and he didn't look bad at all too, now! I can see his guilt towards his mother, and I believe he's not a bad person. Hopefully he'll cherish her more, also start to live well from this point onwards and have a fresh start! They deserve that much. Best wishes :)

If someone wants plastic surgery they shouldn't be looked down upon guys. It's their opinion and body not yours, so that decision doesn't belong to you. Also his surgery may not have gone as he wanted it to, however, he is being too hard on himself. He is still good looking and shouldn't worry too much.

I don't care if you get surgery as long as you can fund it yourself, and are not influenced or pressured, are aware of the consequences, and don't involve other people (i.e. just do it for yourself, and if it stuffs up that is your own problem, don't blame your mom!). Make an informed decision.

Korean society is very superficial and have a high standard when it comes to image. That's why depression and stress is so high there resulting in a high suicide rate. This has shifted the acceptance of plastic surgery. Most of the idols you see or worship may have some form of surgery even if it's quite settle.

another reason that their panel is made of celebrities is because most people (in korea) listen to them better than professionals (ofc this differs from person to person but many people are more open to listening to those whom they admire). they are v skeptical of medical professionals, especially counselors (tbh korea's counseling is shit, and there's still a lot of prejudice against mental illnesses such as depression or anxiety as well as many other illnesses). in my opinion, for this specific case, celebrities who are already successful in their careers as singers, idols, actors/actresses etc. are a good group of "counselors" to hear from.
of course, i also agree that they should receive professional help rather than celebrities but for the sake of the show they should keep the panel the way they have it.

Yap.... I agree with you. I kept on fast forwarding it then when I reached that part I had to re watch that part. It was a serious problem and a serious scene, yet it seemed that he was goofing around. This is like laughing when someone slipped on a funeral. We usually laugh when someone slip in a party, but we compose ourselves when it happens in a serious occassions such as funerals.

koreans culture is very taxing on the looks department. Its a very "good looking" based society. If youre not pretty or handsome you wont get very far in the acting/singing , or even if youre a hard worker you could be skipped over a promotion for someone better looking. Thats just how korea is
You need to submit your picture with your resume when applying for jobs, and people not considered good looking have much lower chances of getting in, pressuring many people to "fix" their faces. However, they are starting to move away from hiring using picture id's so hopefully the situation in Korea improves in the near future.

all those people attacking the son should be ashamed of themselves. Everyone reacts diffrently to situations like this and some people just need space to come to terms when things like this happen. He doens't seem like a bad guy at all, and he's certainly not ugly.

I totally see what you’re saying! I agree! There are too many Koreans that TRULY believe LOOKS are EVERYTHING. It’s really tragic and insidious to the soul. I felt so freaking bad for him. They were saying it like, “Yeah, your acting teacher lied and you never needed to get that surgery…” followed by their own amusement and laughter. Ugh! Disgusting and HORRIBLE. I felt awful and hurt by their entire demeanor. Could you imagine if you were that poor guy? I would have felt so ashamed, embarrassed, sad, and misunderstood….! SMH 🤦🏻♀️

I feel so disheartened when I see this. Knowing that he already had confidence/self love to begin with - only to be shot down by what other people think/say. Really highlights modern day society's and how problematic it is to try to 'achieve' perfection.
Sad how he felt he had to change himself to fit others standards. He was born attractive.Also his mother is so sweet understanding and patient, she's a very strong woman to keep on going through this and not to cry on stage. My mother would have snapped at me.

South Korea: Where a mother asks a television show what to do about her suicidal depressed son instead of taking her son to a therapist.
Edit: Not blaming the mother, just the culture of South Korea where mental health care and awareness is seriously lacking.
Americans do the same thing when they decide to take their kids to Steve harvey or doctor ohil
they have professionals help too. And if it doesn't work i think most american people would go to see a therapist. But in Korea they think it's about personality not mental illnesses and even if it was, you'll be a person anymore but a patient and people will look down on you. Rencently the singer in Shinee died. It was suicide. He went to see a therapist first. The doctor told him he was lacking and what he was feeling was because of himself not others that it was his personality....Korea has a problem and until they do something about it, the suicide rate won't go down.

I feel bad both of the mother and son. I genuinely understand the son frustration and embarrassment after being cheated like that but that doesn't mean to vent out all his emotion to his mother like he is her emotional sponge.
This is unrelated to the situation and I'm a bit hesitant to admit it but I can't help to notice that his voice is soothing and I'm fond of it, and I must say I can listen to him as a narrator in an audiobook.

He looks fine! He’s chosen a profession that is super critical about appearance. The entertainment profession is not suitable for people who are not emotionally strong enough to ignore the harsh criticism and just continue onwards regardless of how horrible other people can be. The entertainment industry is HEARTLESS and only the strong will survive it. I hope he can find his inner strength but if he can’t then I hope he can try for a different profession and then be happy.

Plastic surgery, when one already looks normal, is ridiculous to me. It's horribly painful and takes time to heal. But yes, people can do what they wish. My opinion is extreme because a member of my family was badly burned as a teenager, and had to go through cosmetic surgeries. I try not to judge people but after spending years watching him go through the pain of surgeries... it freaks me out to think that people do it out of their own free will.
This episode has my favorites moonbok, eunha, umji. This poor mother and son. I hope that people coming seriously to the show can gain courage, encouragement, and resolve for their next steps
I don't really think it was his fault,it was the doctors fault for making him look like that.He was so cute before,he probably wishes he never got plastic surgery or wishes he can just rewind the whole plastic surgery and still look young and handsome

Don’t know how this came onto my recommended page but this is the most unusual thing I’ve seen. Looks like a kid’s show based on the stage setup but the message these hosts(not sure if they are all hosts… there are a lot of them) are sending to viewers is definitely damaging. Can no one read the room ?? This guy is expressing real struggles and the editing/reactions are making a joke of it.

Well here I was shocked to see the behavior of the hosts.. they kinda mocked him while reading the story and it broke my heart because that guy was in pain. Legit pain... A newbie in the industry who was mobbed ....and yess of course his mother... His mother is the epitomy of support for her child... She sacrificed so much but to no avail... This is a heart wrenching situation.
I know these people had good intentions ( hosts) but I still kinda didn't like it. But the audience was actually really more understanding of the situation.....we all make mistakes and I hope they are in a better place❤️

i honestly feel bad about about them I'm not against ps but brainwashing people to believe that they're not beautiful enough to be an actress or something that they want to achieve because of their physical appearance, is too much. i think some of them are forced to do ps just to fit on everyone's standards, even if it was against on their own will.

If young South Koreans weren't pushed by social standards and media so much, this kind of stuff wouldn't happen. The kid looked great, but he went one step too far and now he regrets it. But the thought of the person who told him that his eyes wouldnt look good on camera makes me really angry and disgusted.
