Nice looking car. I had one of the second generation Astra Merits back in the day!

Five years ago you could buy a new Astra with a decent specification for half that price.

Well, it's got a Vauxhall badge on it even if it's not. Seems way too expensive. Can a normal everyday family afford it?

Should you buy one in 2023. Answer NO! The cheapest version has the problematical wet belt Peugeot/ Citroen engine. Prices start at £26k. The 1.6l plug in hybrid version starts at £37k GULP! Many people keep saying that the new Honda Civic is too expensive at £34k. All cars today are over priced. But taking into account this price crazy world , the Civic with it's amazing tech, engineering, fuel economy and reliability and is more spacious than the Astra seems a relative bargain.

I bought a Honda CRV not long ago, 2015 model - 50,000 miles top spec EX model, ~£35k worth of car for £14k. It is staggering that anyone is buying brand new nowadays at these prices.. £37k for a bloody astra!

Complicated car. Expect Vauxhall technicians to struggle to fix it when it goes wrong.
