Knopfler’s voice and sound is literally one of the first things I can remember hearing as a kid and thinking ‘I like that’ - I’m 35 in a few days and have seen him live on 15 occasions - and I’m still obsessed!
I am 25, and have the same feel since I was 11 (2007). I've seen him live once (2019). Sadly, since he does not come to Mexico, I have to go to the US to his concerts.
This song may be about a father and son but, back in the day, my mom and I were obsessed with this song. I love how it sounds so similar to "Walk of Life," another Knopfler song we both enjoy.
My dad would sit me down and we would watch a night in London on DVD, this tune would come on and every time without fail would get absolutely cranked on the home surround.. one of my fondest memories. Just like you every time I hear this I think of him and those memories of sitting on the couch absolutely vibing to this awesome song.
I appreciate quality music ... Mark is the first in my preferences ... perfect artist ... unmistakable voice ... exceptional guitarist ... and his compositions ... that sensitize everything he has ... 40 years .... In as many years and so many magnificent composition
I love the Cajun influence on this - and some other - songs (like Je suis Desole). Mark is often described as a great rock musician - and that's true - but I like that he can (and does) also master a whole load of other styles without so much as a blink. To me he's a great folk musician - with his ballads and finger picking - as well as a great rock musician, but he turns his hand to many styles.

I used to listen to this sing when I was one year old apparently, bopping away to it in the car seat.... Ironically, now I'm 17 and Dire Straits is going to likely be my most played artist this year 😂
