    I just turned 14. But even before I was 10, I already knew what goes on in this bitter world. I was born in the generation which technology was a priority in a everyday life. I've been exposed to the internet at such a young age, made rights and wrongs. I went through news articles, Twitter posts, Facebook photos, etc. All have discussed about racism, political, economical, sexism and much more issues then that. I find it stupid how many of you in that comment section dare to say he has no idea what goes on in this world. No, you adults should blame yourselves that. Us as children should've grown up without knowing what goes on in this world so we could grow innocent and do good things rather then what you people do. Us as children learnt to love each other until adults influenced us to hate. We look up to adults but you people destroyed us. We learnt that society considers 'fat' as a synonym to ugly. We learnt that black is not equal to white. We learnt that money is more important

      +Kelly Smith Lmao, what side are you on? I've passed through some comments and you've replied appropriately. Now you're attacking a 14 year old? Telling them to paint rainbows? This is why they had to have their say. Because adults believe people under the age of 18 to stay as children. I, as a 21 year old, half african american and Chinese female living in the UK, knows that they are more mature than most of the people I know whom are older than me.

I just Idk. I wish I could do something. but I'm only in 9th grade.

      Stop shoving my cultural Marxism down the throats of youths????? I wonder, do you consider yourself to be a religious man.....do you believe in God.....and that Jesus Christ was his son, and the Lord and Savior? Cause if you do.....then you better go have a chat with the Reverend!!! Every religion teaches peace, love, and acceptance of your fellow man. And newsflash, babies have a negative reaction if they see a clown, or a dog, or a monkey, if it's the first time they have seen them. But over time, if not coached by someone, they form their own opinions of the dog, the clown, and the monkey, and decide whether or not they are okay. And sorry pal.....trying to say that racism is actually "just a natural and healthy preference towards one's own race", tells me all I need to know about you. But bless your heart, you gave me more evidence, by saying that all racial groups are not created equal. What exactly do you know about the Australian Aboriginals? Here's a little info for you...."anthropologists credit Aboriginals with possessing the world’s longest enduring religion as well as the longest continuing art forms-the cross-hatched and dot-patterned painting styles once inscribed in caves and rock shelters. They are one of the most durable societies the planet has ever known." And more info...."Dispersing across the Australian continent over time, the ancient people expanded and differentiated into hundreds of distinct groups, each with its own language and culture. More than 400 distinct Australian Aboriginal peoples have been identified across the continent, distinguished by unique names designating their ancestral languages, dialects, or distinctive speech patterns." Is that enough for you? We are all created equal JungleListSoldier.....but our surrounding and circumstances determine what we are able to accomplish.

    So why do people waste 4+ years in university learning this shit when even a middle schooler can repeat it?

    • @elilla331
      @elilla331 8 лет назад +13

      Easy. Universities are degree mills now, many employers these days will actually take a kid fresh out of highschool or someone with no university experience who are self-taught, then someone out of university because they've learned nothing out of that university. Colleges and technical colleges are moving in that direction too.

    • @ViolettaD1485
      @ViolettaD1485 8 лет назад +7

      Because college instructors are made to dumb down their classes so the schools can get funding for "developmental" students who can't handle 4th grade academic subject matter. If they flunk them, the retention rate goes down, and if the instructors aren't tenured (and most are nontenured adjuncts these days), they'll be replaced with other educational hacks who are willing to lower standards if it raises enrollment.

Mine because he's an abusive controlling POS and my mom got tired of having to protect herself and her kids from him.... My Older brother's father skipped out on my mom and left her and a newborn stranded and with absolutely no money...
      I'm white... My mom is white... My brother was white (BTW he was killed in gun violence while he was sleeping by a friend who was drunk and that was AFTER he got out of jail for being in a car with some friends he didn't know had stolen $20 worth of Gas.... Bet you didn't know that kind of shit could happen to white people too...)

Everyone has their own struggles, but minority groups(low socioeconomic status, lgbtq, non white races, women) are suspected to be at an even bigger disadvantage compared to rich white men. Ok, wow. Just wow. First of all, I know Royce, who is one of the most intelligent and well-spoken people I've met of any age. His family is not rich. They get by, but he's still on financial aid at his school because they are not rich. He has been given a lot, yes, but he's also witnessed struggle, and through this and the example of his parents, he's developed great compassion for others. He's a very good writer - I know this because he helped co-write a project I was involved with, and we bounced ideas off of each other. Many of his ideas were more well-though-out than the adults in the room. He is kind, smart and caring, and it took courage to get up and say these things - things that NEED to be said and examined.
    NO ONE IS SAYING THAT BEING A WHITE MALE MAKES LIFE EASY. Life isn't easy. Being a human isn't easy. In fact, sometimes having privilege causes other problems (like people trying to tear you down - like people are trying to tear him down all up & down this post). But to spend your time finding a ton of reasons to insult a kid for speaking his heart at a school poetry slam is so gross and weird. What the hell is wrong with people?
    Royce, you are loved and supported. You've been on a great path for a while, and now you really get to see both the light and the darkness that come with fame. May the light seep into every cell of your body and the darkness give you more strength.

      1. I said Royce was ONE OF the most well-spoken people not THE most well-spoken person.
      2. He uses the F-word very intentionally and therefore wasn't "throwing it around." I don't think I've ever heard him use profanity in person.
      3. If you knew me, you'd know that I get out and speak to plenty of people, which makes your comment kind of hilarious, actually.

Saying white privilege does exist is also not talking about EVERYONE. Yes, poverty is horrible, but so is racism. And by saying that it doesnt exist, you're saying tat racism doesn't exist. IT DOES. Even if it doesn't where you live, someone somewhere is always going to think that racism is ok. Someone somewhere is always going to take actions against someone of a different color, or religion, or gender, or sexuality, or wage. He understands the differences among others and that the belittled must now have their time to stand with him as equals. I'm sure he is and always will be a great friend. What a great school that teaches everyone is equal not just white people, and encourages the expression of such. We need more kids and more schools like this.

    • @lancewalker2595
      @lancewalker2595 4 месяца назад

      This is seriously appalling. I'm disgusted by the fact that this child is screaming out to the world that HE IS IN PAIN, pain unjustly inflicted upon him by his parents, school, and country, and the response he receives is: "*applause* you are example of how all boys need to be, good job Royce, I hope someday every boy hates himself as much as you and lives in a state of eternal and constant shame and existential despair for their crime of being born. Props to Royce for being a good little boy ally, let's all hope soon every boy knows he's a worthless monster too!". All of those upon whom the welfare of this boy depended have done worse than fail him, they have actively damaged him and they are CELEBRATING the psychological abuse they have subjected him to. This is so unbelievably disturbing, some how even more disturbing is the fact that so many are so completely without empathy for his humanity that they literally don't recognize his pathological self-contempt and shame as something to be concerned about. THIS IS A CHILD WHO HATES HIMSELF FOR NO FUCKING REASON, HE HAS DONE NOTHING WRONG, AND YET WE CHEER AS HE FLAGELLATES HIMSELF WITH A WHIP OF SHAME CREATED BY ALL THE PEOPLE ENTRUSTED TO NURTURE AND GUIDE HIM. I can't even honestly say I'm surprised by this, boys are subject to constant dehumanization and demoralization and no one EVER stands up for them because it does NOT EVEN REGISTER to people that boys are every bit as vulnerable and worthy of protection and compassion as girls... so many watched this grotesque display of adolescent self-flagellation and can't even begin to sense their lack of empathy because a boy like Royce isn't even a human to them, how have we so wantonly disregarded the humanity of boys?
      Why do I feel like there is a general inability to recognize the humanity and existential value of boys? Is it because we don’t believe they possess such value? Does a boy have any human potential besides condemning himself as a disgusting monster projected onto him by charlatans and sophists who presume to know him better than he can ever possibly know himself? There just doesn't seem to be very much hope for boys then. Honestly, why shouldn't boys resent the idea of becoming men given what that has come to mean in contemporary culture? If I were a 10 year-old boy today I'd absolutely do anything to escape the fate of contemporary manhood, for there is nothing aspirational left to that fate, only worthlessness or monstrosity and infinite shame to feed a cycle of perpetual self-hatred. I wonder how many boys don't know that they could mean something important to someone someday. Here's one hypothesis: boys are taught that they are members of the oppressor sex class, so to avoid the dehumanization and nihilism of this notion they fetishize the role of those who they explicitly recognize as victimized and therefore worthy of human empathy: women and girls. Perhaps this trend, and I cannot understate how reasonable (obvious even) I find this possibility, is a simple matter sublimation. Feminism tells boys how boys are raised to dehumanize women and girls, accepting this idea implicitly they reject the notion of boyhood, manhood, and masculinity altogether by identifying with those whose humanity they are told they would otherwise be infringing upon; to escape the immense shame, guilt, and scorn of remaining “complicit” in a system of alleged male domination they fetishize having their masculinity or general maleness taken and/or reduced by feminine influence... they’d rather be made to suffer like they’ve internalized the shame and self-contempt for inflicting (imagined and non-exist) suffering upon women and girls. Despite the fact that they are guilty of nothing at all, and want for nothing more than to know how to be worthy of life, they mutilate themselves (psychology and physically) in order to feel equivalently validated as human beings worthy of compassion and relationship.
      If I could speak to Royce Mann I would have only these empathetic words to say: you are your own man to be, not whatever thing that stranger may have presumed you to be, you don't belong to the perceptions of others; her perceptions are not within your power to control, and beyond your power to take responsibility for, the greatest and only power in the life of a good man resides in the choice to be the man worthy of life as an end unto itself by living as the means of being through himself. YOU ARE NOT AN OBJECT KID, YOU ARE A HUMAN BEING, BE HUMAN RATHER THAN THE PROP THESE WORDS HAVE MADE YOU, YOU ARE NOT BROKEN AND YOU ARE NOT UNWORTHY OF THE LIFE YOU WERE GIVEN TO LIVE.

    I'm white and grew up (lower) middle class. I've never been pulled over on the road unless I had done something obviously wrong. I've never been stopped, searched or "questioned" randomly by the police. (Which is good because I usually had a bit of weed on me when I was a teenager). No one has ever felt threatened by my presence in any situation. I've rented apartments, and got loans and jobs that I was qualified for easily. I played with toy guns when I was a kid without getting shot. People looked at me and never assumed anything other than I was "nice kid", and, when I did get in trouble, I was always given the benefit of the doubt. If all of that had not been the case, then my life would have been very different. I don't feel any guilt, but I have a great deal of empathy with people who haven't been treated in the same way as I have, and I'm not quite sure how I would react if I wasn't. I would probably fight back if I were black, and, if I had a son, I would probably leave for somewhere safer, more tolerant and less racist than America, if such a place exists.

      Cause in the real world women are paid equally, cause in the real world white men and people of color are treated exactly the same and institutional racism has never been proven. "My parents worked hard and I never experience white privilege therefore it cannot exist" yet we live in a world where ts statically proven that a person of color is more likely to get arrested, be jobless and live in a provertized neighborhood than a white person, but no people of color can't complain because my "parents worked hard so therefore stop pretend you cant". No you need to pretending racism doesn't exist when it has been proven to exist. Oh wait, you hate feeling like a "minority"? Yea we know we've on this bus since America's existence so how about we stop hating on a 14 YEAR OLD boy for the poem and Say "he's making seem like white people have it easy when I worked hard", no hes expressing himself same way how we allow anyone to express themselves whether you feel its "racist" or not. Side note: Now social justice is bad thing.... Wow... Stop hating on a 14 year old boy expressing himself and if you believe that he's "being racist"... sure bob you think that! but picking on a 14 year old for expressing himself just makes you look dumb because if the comments you say on RUclips were said to his face and recorded, Every media from Fox to CNN would make you look like the asshole for picking on a little kid. But you know everything is terrible when white people become the minority because you know they aren't the majority in this country and segregation did not just end like 60 years ago.

    The interesting thing about this is.. you have a 14 year old boy saying a passionate poem about something he believes in. That alone should be enough to applaud this young man. But it seems the subject is just enough to make otherwise normal people hate his core... a 14 year old kid.. hmm.. why does the subject bring so much hate.. I've seen people overlook crazy things 14 year olds do and say because they see them as just kids. No one in their right mind would really argue with a child. But if you are fueled by hatred it really doesn't matter who is talking or what the person is saying or how beautifully it is being said or even how old they are.. the response will be full of hate. Anyone who comments on this post with anything but admiration for a young man speaking on what he truly believes for himself is motivated by negativity. This poem moved me because of the love I can feel pouring out of his words. He has found a mature place. A place much more mature than the small people who would comment negative words to a 14 year old.

      Noah Lopez Yeah, I don't think he said any of those things.
      He did not say that _all_ black people are underprivileged, he said that our society tends to treat them as if they are different and/or lesser than white people.
      He didn't say that no white people ever have a tough time in life, just that in our society racism is one thing white people _don't_ really ever have to worry about.
      And no, at no point did he say that hurdles can not be overcome, just that it is more difficult to succeed the more obstacles you have in your way. In general, women, most minorities, people who are LGBTQ+, and the impoverished have hurdles they have to jump over that middle/upper class white males don't. This leads to a disproportionate number of straight, middle/upper class, white males succeeding in life compared to say, black lesbians who were born into poverty.

    it's obvious that thousands of butthurt white people don't understand what white privilege really is lol it isn't saying you've never experienced hardship in your life or that you don't have to work hard. It's saying that because you are part of the population with the most power in this country you get benefits, big and small, that others of different races don't get. Granted everyone's situation is different, and although thousands of people obviously disagree, that's just a small sample compared to the millions of white americans who benefit in some way shape or form just for being born with less melanin than others.

Not just one group but all people. Personally as a woman I am glad that he understands that I am expected to get up every day and make myself into what a man says is beautiful and more often than not hear that I am imperfect and unbeautiful just as I am. God forbid I not wear makeup. I am sick to death of having men tell me I have to do what they want me to do just so that I can be considered as a human being because if I don't live up to their standards of beauty I'm dirty. At 22 years old I weighed in at 88 pounds and while I felt like an ugly stick I was considered just the right weight to be considered passable. now two kids later I feel so disgusted with myself that I haven't been out on a date with the man who "loves" me in over a year. He pats my stomach and says it's just his way of letting me know in a "nice" way that after to kids and now weighing 140 that I am fat. Someone else posted this earlier: From 1641 to 1652, over 500,000 Irish were killed by the English and another 300,000 were sold as slaves. Ireland’s population fell from about 1,500,000 to 600,000 in one single decade. Families were ripped apart as the British did not allow Irish dads to take their wives and children with them across the Atlantic. This led to a helpless population of homeless women and children. Britain’s solution was to auction them off as well.
    During the 1650s, over 100,000 Irish children between the ages of 10 and 14 were taken from their parents and sold as slaves in the West Indies, Virginia and New England. In this decade, 52,000 Irish (mostly women and children) were sold to Barbados and Virginia. Another 30,000 Irish men and women were also transported and sold to the highest bidder. In 1656, Cromwell ordered that 2000 Irish children be taken to Jamaica and sold as slaves to English settlers.
    Many people today will avoid calling the Irish slaves what they truly were: Slaves. They’ll come up with terms like “Indentured Servants” to describe what occurred to the Irish. However, in most cases from the 17th and 18th centuries, Irish slaves were nothing more than human cattle. "White Cargo"

    • @talktoeric
      @talktoeric 8 лет назад

      Irish were also harder to keep as slaves since they were rebellious. This is why most slaves were from Africa, even though they were 10 times more expensive. I wonder if this is the origin of the phrase "fighting Irish."

    This comment section is the most disgusting, toxic thing I've ever seen and it makes me sad that so many of you feel so angry and hateful when someone suggests that other people deserve equal rights. I just wanted to try and add a positive comment to the fray - Royce, that was amazingly well said. Couldn't be happier to see the kinds of people in the generation who will be running the world not too long from now. All people deserve equal opportunity, and women and minorities do not get to enjoy that right now. Yes, we're closer than ever before in history, but we're still not there yet. Of course not ALL white men are born with a silver spoon in their mouth, but it's still hard to argue that they don't dominate the world we live in. They star in all our movies, they run all of our companies, they have run the government of nearly every world power until some recent breakthroughs which will hopefull pave the path for more female and minority politicians. White men are not evil, but they should be able to recognize that they don't know what it's actually like not to be white or to be a woman or even worse, transgender. These people do face real problems, they're not just making this stuff up. I myself am a white man, but that doesn't mean I feel guilty about it. It's just that my life is pretty great, and it saddens me that other people don't always have the opportunities I have to live a good life, to be successful and happy. This comment section is proof that there's work to be done, but I know that someday, hopefully soon, issues like these will be a thing of the past.

      Hello Ryan, I hope you're having a wonderful Friday.
      I left a pretty detailed post as to why I disagree with the message of this poem. I definitely don't disagree with equal rights, everyone deserves them. I don't know any rational human that would say people don't deserve equal rights.
      But equal rights does not equate to equal outcomes. Some people see a disproportionate outcome, and all the sudden scream institutional racism, it's the patriarch, etc. That is the laziest approach to any potential problems, because it will never fix anything. Identify a problem, identify why it's unfair based on race, gender, whatever, and then fix it.
      White men star in all our movies, run all our companies, and run all our countries.
      Movies
      The entertainment industry exists to make money. If it was more profitable to have women star in lead action roles, they'd do that.
      Companies
      This is a capitalist country, where a women or minority has every opportunity to make something of themselves. I dated a minority for years - her mom and dad each owned their own businesses. Her dad's lawfirm was one of the top 100 most profitable in the US. Is it because institutional racism is now allowing him to do that? No.
      Run All Our Countries
      Pretty sure we can vote for who we want to be in power. If you want a woman or minority in power just to have a woman or minority in power, you should not have a vote. If you want the best person to be in power because they are the best person and they happen to be a minority or woman, then by all means go right ahead.
      Black men dominate professional sports. Should we say, "Sports are biased giving black men an unfair advantage?" Of course not, that would be ridiculous. There is a disproportionate outcome, but it doesn't mean I wasn't given the same chance as everyone else to make the 76ers.

• @CrocShark
    @CrocShark 8 лет назад +12

    "I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character." That's how I was raised, in the ghetto, as a poor straight white male. I am still in the same situation, but am now called privileged simply because of the way people look at me. People judge me, because my skin tone is lighter than theirs, or I have a penis instead of a vagina, and I like vagina instead of a penis. What does any of that matter, when all that should matter is what I have to say and my thoughts. I look around the world and see women in power, blacks, gays, Asians, Hispanics, foreigners, all living happily in the world. If you follow the law, if you learn to handle situations correctly and understand that nobody in America is privileged over another, then we can all get along. If you want to know what privilege really is, go to Somali, Rio de Janeiro, Pakistan, North Korea, Cuba, Russia, Indonesia, almost any country in the world outside of the "western world". Americans are privileged. Not white Americans, or American Men, or Straight Americans, just all Americans. Every single American, is privileged because even if you are broke and can't work, the government still has your back and will help you to eat, help you with shelter, and help you with a fucking cell phone. Check your privilege America, because we have it bigger and better than any other nation ever to exist and don't even realize it. (the one exception is homeless people which I usually feel bad for, and believe the government should actually be supporting them more than any other group because they are crazy and could use some help.)

    • @Johnsmith-pd3uk
      @Johnsmith-pd3uk Год назад

      To be white is to be privileged. White privilege is not an economic statement. White privilege is the fact that you can get pulled over by the police and not have to worry about being killed. White privilege is the fact that you are automatically deemed more trustworthy then.a minority, more intelligent, more capable. White privilege is the fact that you will get a better interest rate on a loan, because you're white. White people need to stop whining about being poor, growing up in a low income area etc. And how they aren't privileged because of that. I'm white, and a small business owner, I would only be lying to myself if I thought my whiteness wasn't a factor in my success. Learn about what white privilege, and male privilege is for that matter, before speaking. The result is at best ignorance, and at worst perpetuating the problem while ignoring the reality of minorities.

    • @Johnsmith-pd3uk
      @Johnsmith-pd3uk Год назад +4

      Yes you're right all Americans ate privileged. I have been to multiple 3rd world countries and seen true poverty. Is tragic. But you ate indeed privileged as a straight white male. It had nothing to do with money. It does however have to do with the fact that police are exponentially less likely to automatically see you as a threat. You're automatically deemed more honest and trustworthy. Your automatically deemed more competent at your job. Before you talk about the exceptions of women, minorities, and p.o.c.in positions of power, do some research. Look at how many companies are and have been run exclusively by white men. Let'stabs GM for example, are we to believe that in the history of GM there has never been a woman or minority capable and qualified to be the CEO? Nonsense. Went did it take until what, 2014 due a woman to helm GM? If you research companies run by women, they're more profitable and have higher employee satisfaction. Why? Because women make informed decisions, not irrational emotional ones like men. Their egos don't get in the way, they listen, they collaborate. I was a union electrician fur 15 years before opening my own shop. Our of 4,000 members we had a combined total of 83 women and minorities. Or want because they didn't want the jobs, or was/is because there is a giant "keep out" sign on the front door. I've witnessed hue they are treated. It's reprehensible. eveeyone in the comments is saying the boy does not understand, well of course he doesn't understand, that is what he's trying to tell you. this young man is one of the very few young people that try to understand the challenges of others. he may not face them head on, but he does understand that the problems are there and that he is lucky to be looking from a distance and not from then front row. this boy he knows he is privileged and has more than many other people who deserve the same and he is willing to go against the social standards to bring The issues of light for the other white privileged people that don't seem to understand the severity of others issues. this boy does not understand everything but the fact that he tries means more than anything done by most. he is young but being able to recognize the problem makes him know there can be a solution.

    FYI ONLY. Royce Mann is a local Atlanta area actor. He’s the son of Sheri Mann Stewart, also a local area actor. Both Royce, and brother Tendal are popular, seasoned actors in the Atlanta entertainment community. They were also resident cast members of A Christmas Carol at the Alliance Theatre, and other projects in the local area. I share this so that the public isn’t too surprised by all of the attention the video is getting. Many entertainers are using their platform to draw attention to social issues. (Examples: Beyonce’ and her “Formation” platform against police brutality. Beyonce’s “Lemonade” platform to draw attention to the plight of black women. Michael Moore and his movie-making platform to draw attention to the healthcare industry. Denzel Washington’s “John Q” movie also drew attention to the healthcare insurance industry. Suzanne Vega and her song “Luka” to draw attention to child abuse. I’m certain Mr. Mann’s social media pages will notice and increase in followers. #MannOnHisGrind #Publicity #PublicRelations

Then they threw me out on the road when I was an 8th grader and I spent nights walking the streets sleeping on benches. Is that the privilege you speak of? You have a lot of growing up to do to judge me and my race. I now dont work and havent for 8 years because I cant leave my home because of PTSD. 6 suicides in my family? You tell me where my privilege is at that you so say I have? Unbelievable. Dont judge me and dont judge others. Because of YOUR privilege im now judged to be like you? Hell no. WHITE PRIVILEGE: Some people are born with privilege. Some people are born as victims. It is the responsibility of the privileged to denounce said privilege and be ashamed of themselves if they want to be accepted in society. For victims, they are handed a hall pass that excuses every poor decision made in life. Victims are allowed to blame their birth status (as a victim) instead of accepting responsibility for the path they take and choose in life.
    If a victim succeeds in life, they are to be praised for their miraculous accomplishments because any form of achievement was against all odds. If a victim does not succeed in life, it is because they were born with a disadvantage and therefore, bear no responsibility for their life's results.
    If a privileged person succeeds, it is because they were handed their success on a silver platter. However, they should be careful not to be too proud of themselves because regardless of their work or effort, they were born with privilege that they didn't earn. Therefore, they should feel shame and are expected to denounce their privilege in order to avoid being ostracized from society.
