I try my best to be like yourself. 9/10 I'll see the best in films. Overall, I am a positive person, so maybe that's why the negative doesn't show as much.
I quit being a film critic years ago. I found myself being so overly critical, if a film wasn't a masterpiece, I was just picking it apart. It got to a point I was hating more films than I was giving my enthusiastic approval. I started Wondering what was the point. It seemed like I was throwing out anything different or wasn't perfectly executed. The more I started loosening up the more films 😮i found have a lot to offer. Even poorly made films became a new exciting world to explore. What's the point of being a critic. It's not like I get paid to tear down movies. And what of all the films that don't have 100 million dollar budgets. There's so much more to these stories.
May I ask why you were so critical of films? I can't seem to understand how people can't just watch a movie for fun and then talk about how fun the movie was instead of picking it apart? Honestly, I am not being sarcastic or rude. I really want to understand why because I can't find a good podcast to save my life. They are ALL negative and terrible
Well said. Your channel is one of movie appreciation, which most of us can get on board with. Perhaps some people are thrown by the name of the channel, and expect some angry ranting. Besides, I think there are plenty of times when you've voiced your displeasure with aspects of movies, you just don't get het up, that's all. I'm subscribed to get an idea what films are worth watching, which is way more valuable to me.
Pretty much the best answer you could give to that question! Social media has just become a cess pit of negativity and nit picking, which is sad as I mainly connected with people who were passionate and enthusiastic about things when it first started. Even when I don't particularly like a film, I don't hate it and still get some form of enjoyment. The hate grifter channels had pretty much put me off most of the RUclips movie/review corner, so was very glad to find your channel - I was only disappointed you didn't take to Waking The Dead very much as it's one of my favourites :) Keep doing what you're doing!
It’s rare that I find a movie that I really struggle with. Plus it’s only my opinion, so it’s always good to hear a variety of them. I find that when people feel their point of view carries more weight than someone else then there are issues.
I'm with you. I'm a movie fan and so enjoy nearly all movies I see. Even with crappy horror movies, I'll usually find something I enjoy. I don't understand people who constantly hate on films giving them 1 star. Movies that I'm probably not likely to like I usually don't see in the first place.
Graham, I have always thought of you as an enthusiast, more than a critic (which can sometimes imply snootiness or elitism). Your reviews are perfectly pitched for those of us that especially like the sometimes more off-centre boutique releases, and want to hear a rounded appreciation of the film itself and also the packaging and extras etc. rather than an Open University lecture. You don't have an axe to grind and tend to chime well with our love of film and physical media. I remember your review some time back for Rollercoaster, a 101 Films blu ray release, years after I first saw (and enjoyed) on TV. I had already bought the 101 release of the blu ray and was delighted to see someone else on RUclips identify with its qualities as a well-played under the radar thriller. Your channel itself is a boutique quality item!
thank you for such a lovely comment. I have a general positive disposition, i'm always looking for the positives. I don't want to analyse a film either, i want to enjoy it. I'll leave the criticisms to the critics while i just chat about the films i like.
I just want to thank you so much for being one of the very few rare positive critics of movies. Pretty much every RUclips channel and podcast I have attempted to listen to (with very few exceptions) just seem to love to crap on movies. They nitpick movies to death, they complain about effects not being perfect or a plot line that was dropped or didn't make perfect sense. It's so tiring and annoying to listen to people complain about these movies. For me, if a movie is entertaining, it's good. As long as the characters are decent and I'm not bored, I'm in for a good time. I don't understand why anyone would want to talk about something they hate. Life is hard enough. Why not enjoy movies? Talk about the ones you love or at least the ones you have some fun with. I am so grateful I found this channel because I always know, even if you didn't like a movie, you'll never be super harsh or unfair. You seem to want to be positive and I love that. Please never change. I look forward to each video you put out
Im always looking for that reason to love a movie. A performance, an effect, plot point or anything that I can enjoy. If I can find 1 or 2 of those then I haven’t wasted my time.
That’s why I enjoy your channel Graham! So many channels on RUclips are just full of negativity or content creators attacking each other (films/gaming etc) I don’t have a problem with a variety of different opinions or someone disliking something.. it’s when they act like their opinion is the only correct one and anyone that likes a film they don’t is a idiot. Plus so many channels that upload daily videos on things they hate (mcu/Star Wars/Brie Larson) if you hate something that much why spend so much of your life focused on it? I’m Like you Graham in that films are a hobby and I go out of my way to watch films that look interesting or entertaining to me. I like to go in with a positive mindset and hope I have a great time. Everyone has different tastes.. sometimes I am in the mood for horror movies and cheesy B movies but know they are not everyone’s cup of tea.
I’m like you. I’m always happy to hear someone’s opinion. I generally don’t have time or the inclination to be negative. It’s the closed minded my opinion is THE opinion that I can’t be bothered with.

But having the curated films of the boutiques allows you to watch stuff outside your comfort zone while hopefully not wasting your time. Thanks for the videos!
you're probably my favourite horror reviewer on here, next to sinister cinema and Rotted review. You aren't a slave to buyer's remorse, completely adoring any shlocky film you spent 30$ on, you give honest genuine critiques, often explaining the good elements without overselling them like some other horror reviewers tend to do. Any time I look up a weirdo deep cut horror film and you pop up, I always gravitate to your video to hear if it has fun practicals, or is overall entertaining without either overhyping a generic film, or ranting about how it was "dumb". Also your accent is blessed, keep it up mate! (Montreal dude)
I enjoy your reviews mate! It’s clear that you love movies and look for the positives even where the films may be a bit below par. Keep up the good work 👍😃
I have always found your movie positivity to be inspiring. Your reviews are great because your enthusiasm is infectious and you also give a good sense of what the film is like overall which helps the viewer know if they might like it or not, something that Roger Ebert also strove to do. I only became a full-blown cinephile in the last 12 years or so, and I find that the more I see, the more I appreciate or even love films that may be perceived as "bad." In fact a lot of my favorite films at this point in my life would be regarded as "trash" by many, or, worse yet, "cheesy" and "dated" (two terms I absolutely loathe when it comes to criticism). My most commonly used rating on Letterboxd is four stars and that seems about right for me. There are surely things I don't like (particularly when it comes to cinema in the 21st century), but there are a lot of movies I now love or am obsessed with in some way that I would have dismissed as turkeys in the past, and I find that is so rewarding in the end. There is certainly something to be said for the EXPERIENCE of cinema, and I think the rise of modern, nitpicky, "CinemaSins" style criticism has ultimately been damaging for the artform.
There are some bad movie channels I adore. But I also like watching your enthusiasm for good films too. And as you buy the films themselves, I'm not sure why you would want to purchase something that you'll almost certainly hate just for the views. There's calculated risks and physical media madness!
This is an interesting subject. When I'm posting on social media about a film, be it on letterboxd/Instagram, I sometimes catch myself from posting a negative review. I realise that when I myself have encountered poor reviews, it can influence my decision on whether to watch it or not. And with that, I may have missed out on something that actually really speaks to me! I don't want to be the cause of people missing out. If it's a film a person would otherwise have some interest in, they should have a clear path to find out for themselves. I tend to only really post about films I have enjoyed, in an effort to pass that enjoyment on to someone else. Also, I find that your enjoyment for a film can change dramatically depending on who you watched it with, and of course, your mood on the day. So maybe save that negative reaction to reflect on another day...
