@@Yukeena I never done it but I have done all of the dsses and alot of other things but not this so I bought 20 different clear cases and a set to try it I start Tomorrow. Hopefully people are going to be making some cool joy cons and I won't mess it up but honestly if you have some experience and the tools it's not that bad I don't see anything I wouldn't be able to do but I understand if you have little experience It looks pretty hard and I get you dont want to risk it but maybe practise on a cheap ds lite and you will get there I promise :)

Great video, loved it! I just ordered a new set of shells for my joy con, and your video was the only one that was both easy to understand and straight to the point. Thank you!
For everyone concerned, this process was pretty easy for me. I do have experience tinkering with small electronics, but I draw the line at using any kind of solder. So the fact that this one is just ribbon cables and screws meant that while it was tedious, I was able to do it no problem. Just take it slow, follow along with the video (I paused it and replayed it several times before and during the attempt), and don't be afraid. For me, the two trickiest bits were removing the plug from the rumble motors (I couldn't quite get a good grasp on them for some reason) and aligning the buttons (shaky fingers, I kept dropping them or moving the shell so they would pop out.
It IS possible to put the release button in the wrong way and have the case seal, but you'll know you screwed up when you slide the joy con into your switch and it doesn't make that satisfying "click" noise. It will still work fine and everything, but I ended up just reopening the shell, moving it into the proper place, and resealing everything. Took 2 minutes.
Overall, this project took me about an hour to do both shells. I had fun, and now I have a set of very cool glacial blue joy con that match the GBA from my childhood!

Good video, thanks. Helped me out a bunch. I've worked on laptops and modern cell phones, so I am accustomed to tiny screws and miniature zif sockets and the rest of it but these joycon still took me about an hour each to do. Now the ~$75 cost for a brand new set feels a bit easier to swallow, haha.

Hey Jake, what brand are those shells? I'm just curious because I'm looking for a blue "+" shell of the exact color. Some that I find online have paint rubbing issues, where it peels after some time. Nice video btw!

I need help, I swapped my shells for my joycons. All the buttons work fine and everything works except for 1 thing for my right joycon. It can connect wirelessly to my switch but wont be detected when attached to the actual switch. Anyone know what i can do cause i cant play games with both joycons attached to the switch in handheld mode
Edit: I fixed the issue a week after I originally commented, turns out I damaged the ribbon cable for the joycon rail. I had to buy a replacement ribbon cable so I could swap them out. Works perfectly fine now 👍

I had the same issue just the other day. The ribbon cable for the joycon rail isn't plugged in completely. Go back in and reinsert the cable to be properly connected and you'll be golden. Hope ya fixed this before I commented though and if I helped then glad to help. Lol

If your having trouble with putting the battery plate back with the ribbon, unscrew it and connect it then put the battery plate on and screw it back. It’s already bent and folded so you don’t need to worry about breaking or ripping it just be careful.
