I think what really made mw2 such a great game was atmosphere. You could tell it was a game made for a mature audience, no octopus or clown costumes. All weapons with realistic gun sounds were used typically in the military, and the campaign was the sauce. The absolute goat. Storytelling that is brought up years later, replayed to this day, a game much kept alive. Although I thought it was cool seeing the mw2 2022 trailer, I don’t think it will ever hit off like the original mw2 did.

This was absolutely more than a game, and it put Call of Duty on the map in such a way that the franchise is now literally a part of the Western cultural lexicon. My mom knows what Call of Duty is and this is the same woman who still thinks all console games are Nintendo games. The franchise is referenced in movies, TV, music... That all started with this game. This was the game that officially snatched the console FPS crown from HALO. The impact this game had on both the franchise and the industry as a whole are undeniable, both for better and for worse.

I know this is late compared to the release. But this video got me to really relive this game for a moment and thank you. Unlike a lot of players, my best friend and I never really moved on past this game playing it right up to the CoD4 remaster as our go to CoD. Which by that point the game began to get over ran my "modders" with things like aim bot and permanent UVA. But as you mentioned the game gave you pretty much everything you could imagine for all situations. And we trolled modders for years through corny strategies. Finally we took out the discs for the final time I guess half a decade ago already with a final in-game time of 393Days.

Whilst some weapons may seem to have broken elements, which they do but it's not just that, everything is "OP" in the game purely based upon the Stopping Power perk. It increased your damage and combined with FMJ on your guns it was so broken, since Cod4 nor WaW had FMJ attachments MW2 seemed way more broken in comparrison. People always tend to forget that when making these videos. Go back and use something other than SP, you can feel the difference, only slight but noticible.

That game was huge. It came out by my birthday. I was 23 years old. And by far my favorite call of duty ever I had alot of fun with my friends. It was like everybody wants to buy a PS3. just to play MW2 Even people that didn’t play video games wanted to play Mw2 I made a lot of friends in the game.

I think a lot of MWII's hype is tied to MW19, which was a resounding success for Call of Duty. Ofc there is some leverage of the MW2 brand/nostalgia too, as their was with MW19, but that Game managed to stand on it's own feet as a Call of Duty Title so I'm sure MWII can too.

My fren, you have no concept of history because you're looking at this from the perspective of someone who was a child at this time. COD and gaming weren't underground. There is so much you put in these videos distorting gamers and gaming circles early to mid-2000s. The comment about people not investing in DLC is tragically laughable. We invented that ish. We would all buy our season pass to get all map dlc 4x a year. We would wait on Mondays at Gamestop and their progenitors for hours partying guys and girls for midnight releases. When the discs were prevalent, you would get special COD posters still hanging signed by the COD creators in my theater. And all tbise dads that let you play when too young most of us still play COD a d would trounce you. We have the best rugs and all the experience, especially in 15 year old maps with different overlays

I also remember me & my friend trying to beat the 15 Juggernaut oil rig level. I wish they bring it back the way that it was on MW2, I was so gutted when I played MW19’s take on the mode.

Having my heart race as I built up to my first harrier jet without any other kill streaks before it to help. It started as getting smacked, to doing the smacking, and went up from there. I’d say I’ve matured cuz of age now as a gamer, but that time I was happiest

Kind of interesting to hear your take about the release date, and the perception of the times it was released in. A fun generational gap, for a lot of my friends and myself, MW2 was an island of escapism following the real shitty state of the world after the 2008 financial crisis.

I'm not sure anyone's pointed this out, but Sheppard used CIA connections to get him in with Makarov, but further Sheppard tipped Makarov off and gave Makarov an asset to start WW3. That's what leads into the safehouse mission and why he killed ghost and roach, it would've revealed that Sheppard helped Makarov start ww3 in the hopes of taking down the big "villain" and become a hero again because his reputation was tarnished due to the nuke in cod 4 decimating his men.

What made me fall in love with mw2 was how viable spawn rushing was. Maps weren't these shitty three lane layouts. There were numerous ways to flank your opponents, and cause absolute chaos.
The riot shield was an absolute blast to use, and no other game has been able to do it better. Combined with c4 or a throwing knife, and I would have a blast.
Changing weapons to pretend that you were dead with cold-blooded pro; ninja defusing; sneaking behind people and placing a claymore; camping with a group of friends; and running around with commando and knife only.
No other COD has come close to how much fun MW2 provided. Everything was broken, and yet balanced -- it was glorious.
