As a former sufferer of cfs there's a little detail i'd like to adress. There is this thing called post exertional malaise which is not purely fear driven. Sure, fear keeps the cycle going, but the body actually reacts to physical activity AND the thoughts you attach to it. Essentially, the brain perceives anything as a danger (in extrem cases even light and sound) and will create symptoms accordingly, which actually makes avoidance and rest a part of recovery. Here, it's crucial to first adress the fear and the stress in the system before one is trying to ignore the symptoms and live a normal life. Just my 2 cents from my experience

Hey Dan, thank you for these videos they are so inspiring! This was super helpful. I wanted to know your thoughts if you’re willing to share on if you are in a flare after maybe getting a bit excited and the brain giving you a kickback with symptoms due to percieved danger… do you suggest getting up and still doing your activity that’s you’ve been doing beforehand (even if that’s extremely challenging due to flare) because you know it even though it’s challenging and not comfortable and sometimes downright colourful, it’s safe and showing safety instead of resting which could be showing danger? As resting and overthinking of whether I should do my usual bike ride and the dishes for instance because resting would send the message that there’s something wrong and that I shouldn’t do that activity and activity is dangerous? Or whether you have extremely colourful symptoms and it’s actually better for you to actually recommend taking it easy but still being able to laugh and know what these symptoms etc. because sometimes it’s freakin hard and I find a push due to those symptoms when I’m in a flare but want to keep that baseline but sometimes it can create a challenge in sending safety afterwards as well due to how I’m feeling. And about 6 weeks ago woke up deaf in one ear, that cleared up over the day and has just been annoying since then and I guess with all my fiddling with it keeps aggravating it ?? Have not been to a dr as had an MRI 2 years ago about the tapping in my ear which died its own death about 18 months ago😊
Hey Trish - got behind on comment replies. Fear drives so much of this. Do what you can not to buy into the fearful anticipatory thoughts. We don't have to believe them. Tomorrow I am posting a video called Mental Gymnastics where I speak about thinking.
Hi Dan. Can we “buy you coffee” here on RUclips? I’ve seen it on other channels and I’m sure a lot of us who have benefited greatly from your daily videos would love to do something as a token of our appreciation
Thank you Dan!!! My current struggle is anticipatory fear - I’m gearing up to take a 6 hour flight in about a month and though I KNOW even thinking about “how am I going to make it” is feeding into the fear, I can’t help but get a bit worried of crashing. I haven’t flown in a year but have driven 10 hours and I was ok. How do I mentally prepare for this 6 hour flight? And a week stay with in-laws😂
Hi Networth 😊 I'm sure Dan will have a awesome reply for you, but I just wanted to say, visualizing it going well, getting off the plane feeling super proud, happy clear headed, vibrant etc at the end (and the plane ride back home) might b a great start 😀 👍 and any time you start duing fear just replace it with thoughts and visualizing what u actually want-some ppl feel they rnt very good at visualizing but if u can imagine worst case scenarios ur probably actually really good at visualizing (thats wjat i learnt)and just getting and feeling the right emotions up is really all u need ,u don't have to "see it all unfolding " if it's tricky. I just replied cos I spent 2 years virtually entirely house bound then in December I did a 3 day neuroplasticity course, all day 3 days in a row. I was terrified at the thought of it initially but started to believe it was possible and imagined it going well alot, so when it came to the day I had alot more confidence, and I've been getting better ever since using the same techniques 👍
@@meganobrien1019 thank you so much. I actually DO a lot of visualization as part of my healing process - I’ll incorporate it to the trip coming up. I’m so glad you’re well. Did you have CFS? Thank you ❤❤
When you notice your fearful thoughts, tell yourself the opposite story. If you don't know what that is, write down your current story, then cross it out and write out the opposite story of how you expect it to go great and even if you do have some symptoms, you will respond great.

You are a mind reader lol. I was just wondering how fatigue fits in with TMS because I mostly hear about pain. I wonder sometimes how I can be so exhausted when I haven't done anything. I see it is not a separate issue but rather just another sensation, no different from the others that the brain sends to keep me safe and in the house. Ty
@@ezza1236 You might be grimly negative too if you'd lost your whole life for decades despite trying every treatment under the sun. I think it's true that for most of these people the negativity is part of the cycle that keeps them sick, but they don't know that, they're just following what their brain is telling them to do, the most natural thing in the world. There's no reason to be so critical of people who have endured so much suffering.
@@ezza1236 I'm not justifying the negativity, I think it's a problem, but it's one I have a lot of sympathy for. What I'm doing is asking you to stop punching down at chronically ill people.
Hi Dan thank you for all you do and always answering my doom filled questions. My body is so tense and rigid and concrete blocks for legs and and pelvic area. I watched an old video about 'forced relaxtion' i just cant do it. If i do become untense for a while default of body tenses straight up again. Tried to change body posture and smile but always tense up again like a habit i guess or fear. How can i stop this automatic response? Its getting very frustrating and fear level is sky high.
The tension is the RESULT of the brain perceiving danger. When the brain feels safer, the tension will ease up on it's own. Focus on safety. Don't worry about the tension at this point. ruclips.net/video/5SsKnAgAvnY/видео.html
Kinda related. I have some really bad "neighbors." I put that in quotation marks because they live across the street, two houses down from the corner. Not really neighbors. But, when their teenaged grandkids show up, usually Sundays, they always end up on my property and wreak havoc. I'm already anticipating the visit and my anxiety and ailments are peaking. I've been sober for almost three years and I had my first beer last Sunday, just to calm down. I'm not all that religious, but it seems God favors bullies. Bullies like pain, anxiety and inconsiderate people!
Regardless of the chaos that descends on your property - we can still teach our brain that we don't need pain or symptoms in response. ruclips.net/video/twNl7iv4K0Y/видео.html
If you have been checked by an ear, nose and throat doctor and they find no infection or polyps, the sensation of sinutius can be caused by the brain. Any sensation can become learned.
@@PainFreeYou ok thankyou this symptom was one of my first to happen I always felt like I was getting sick. I did have a ct scan on my sinuses and they said chronic sinusitis. That was 4 years ago. I do feel like my symptoms are going in reverse if that makes sense. So hopefully it will go away.
@@tamjase1978 chronic sinusitis - but what's causing it? All that says is that things are inflamed for longer than 12 weeks. That's not a diagnosis. It's an observation of a symptom. There is NO downside to applying a TMS approach to what you are experiencing. None. ruclips.net/video/g5xWR6eBlb8/видео.html
Dan, can you do a video on when to see a doctor for new symptoms. My symptoms change so often that I sometimes fear that the new symptom is something serious. Especially because I have a family history of cancer, heart disease and family members dying young. I have been to many, many doctors who never find anything and am 100% sure I have perceived danger pain until the next new symptom puts doubt in my brain.
If it feels life threatening (can't breathe, chest pain, swollen like an infection) get checked out. Rule IN TMS with the assessments on my getting started page. www.painfreeyou.com/start
I ran an experiment. I increased my time on my bicycle. Pain went down, not up. I believe the brain began to accept the bike was safe. But when I am clearing brush in the woods I am fearful - not that the pain will spike - that doesn't happen. I am afraid I will fall because of poor footing. I often have an active chain saw in one hand and a stick in the other to make sure I don't stumble. In this example is my fear rational? At least for now??? I never doubted my footing before TMS.
Sure, caution while working with a chainsaw is a good thing. But do you have to hurt or have increased TMS symptoms? No. Teach your brain that being cautious does not need to hurt.
Dan my dear friend ,when I sleep the symptoms comes , I have very good sleep now when I sleep in afternoon it's hit me baare. I expose read bad news in newspaper , my big fear is read newspaper what I continue do exposer
QUESTION…… does anyone relate to this?? Like my whole focus for the past 3 years has been getting free. I had to quit working, all of it, give up my dreams for a while, all to get better. Now that I’m pain free, I come back to my life, and I have nothing to show for myself… anyone relate? Any tips of how to lane switch back to life?
This is 100% on point. Especially for ppl dealing with cfs fatigue and related type of tms 🙌👌 your right when you talk about graded exposure to things, dan. Thats what i call it now, ive fully let go of using the word pacing because it has so many negative doctor and forum related memories for me (which didnt help atall) but if we look at it like graded exposure therarpy for our brains it really helps reframe it i think 🫶👍

In the description of each video is a paypal donation link.
@@networthassoc2006 yes I did have severe cfs-i still du symptoms but don't use the label of cfs anymore as in my mind it's all just tms, letting go of medical labels and that helps my mindset haha
All the best🙃
@@meganobrien1019 very happy for you. You’re an inspiration.
Incase it helps you, Jan Rothney has a great book (which I’m sure you may have heard of) called breaking free and it just became available on audible.
I know without a doubt that my pain is driven by severe anxiety. So I'm working on the anxiety, but it's a long and hard road.
Consistent messages of safety will resolve both the anxiety and the pain.

That thumbnail. How did you know Dan? Haha! Good evening, thanks for sharing your knowledge with the world.
Glad you approve.
Ty
Yes fatigue is also TMS you are in the right place wishing you much love annd success ❤💐💕🎈
@@Lenneke8422-b3t thank you Lenneke ❤️
Yes, it's all the same.

Hi Dan can you please advise me on sinutius? I have this alot not sure if it's the brain or not. This video was great thankyou ❤️
None.

Thankyou Dan 💕 they didn't say a cause would be hard to know. And I will definitely do that 😁

❤
Dan my dear friend ,when I sleep the symptoms comes , I have very good sleep now when I sleep in afternoon it's hit me baare. I expose read bad news in newspaper , my big fear is read newspaper what I continue do exposer
QUESTION…… does anyone relate to this?? Like my whole focus for the past 3 years has been getting free. I had to quit working, all of it, give up my dreams for a while, all to get better. Now that I’m pain free, I come back to my life, and I have nothing to show for myself… anyone relate? Any tips of how to lane switch back to life?
Gradually. Dream. Imagine. Just start somewhere. You can rebuild your life.
Wonderful.
