when Rob Zombie was asked about the first time he saw them perform, he said: "I saw them the other day for the first time. I mean, I'd seen videos and stuff, but I saw them live for the first time the other day, and I just loved it; it was like nothing I had ever seen before. I mean, it was just like… Leave it to the Japanese to find a way to make fucking death metal cute. But it was awesome. And the crowd… The crowd was going fucking apeshit. The amount of crowdsurfing and stage diving and just complete mayhem, which made it even funnier, 'cause it's three cute little girls doing fucking karate on stage and shit, and these guys [that are backing them] are dressed like ghosts, all in white. It's the most bizarre fucking thing. It's totally worth watching; it's so good."

"Stand up and shout, Shout!, Justice Forever!" - (Road of Resistance)
Like a lot of their songs, 'Road of Resistance' talks about overcoming obstacles in life, whether they are internal or external.
Their backing musicians, the Kami Band are legit. They are well known in Japanese music circles and are involved in a lot of different projects.
Their guitarist, Takayoshi Ohmura often plays and tours with Marty Friedman (former Megadeth, etc.).
When BABYMETAL's producer Koba recruited the Kami Band members, he had one specific request:
"Don't hold back because they are girls. Don't hold back because they are Idols".
Suzuka Nakamoto, the lead singer, has singing professionally since she was very young.
Su was a member of the J-Pop trio Karen Girl's when she was ten years old.
They even played this same venue, Saitama Super Arena (SSA).
And besides their headlining shows, they've also opened for Guns 'n' Roses there.
At this point they should just give Su a key to the place. : )
If you want to see a side of BABYMETAL you haven't yet, check out 'Rondo of Nightmare'.
Especially the version that starts with the short Kami Band instrumental 'Mischiefs of the Metal Gods'!
The Budokan Black Night version is rightly considered a classic:

    Always more BabyMetal forever!
    About the band(s)....
BabyMetal's music is created under the supervision of their producer, Koba.
When BabyMetal started, the girls (Su, Moa and Yui) performed with BabyBones (band dressed in skeleton costumes), however BabyBones were just actors miming to pre-recorded music tracks.
When BabyMetal became more popular and started playing larger venues, they were joined by real live musicians known as The Kami Band (Kami wear face paint and white robes (black robes as of 2018). Kami means god or spirit in Japanese. So each member of the Kami Band is a god of their instrument (god of drums, bass, guitar). Indeed, the Kami band is made up of Japan's best, highly skilled players. Tragically, one of the Kami guitarists, Mikio Fujioka, passed away recently due to injuries from an accidental fall.

  • @Grington300
    @Grington300 5 лет назад +40

You just witnessed the power of Babymetal when they have the Kami Band supporting them (as they have been doing in all live shows since the end of 2013. They first appeared in the encores for some shows from 2012). The Kami Band costumes are based on traditional burial shrouds and ghost face paint ... there is a whole lot of mythology and lore that has been developed around Babymetal being summoned by the Fox God to reunite the world through metal. The Kami Band (it means God Band) is part of that, the Gods of guitar, bass and drums were also summoned by the Fox God to support Babymetal in their quest.
The very first appearance of the Kami Band in 2012 was at the Legend I show for a two song encore. There is a minute or so of a video explaining their being called (it is in Japanese but I think you'll get the drift) before they and Babymetal rip into 'Headbanger', one of their earlier songs ruclips.net/video/hYHzzPzUIM8/видео.html (this has to be worth another reaction, it is a great song and a great early performance from before they became known in the west - the girls were 14 and 12 or 13).
The Kami costumes have changed in the last couple of years - last year the white shrouds were replaced with black gowns, this year the face paint has been replaced with masks (they look a bit like Predator). This is a bit controversial, the masks look good but Babymetal fans are also very appreciative fans of the Kami Band (as a band and as individuals) and like to see them smiling and pulling faces too.

@@TheBandSShow Foxes are very prevalent in Japanese folklore as trickster gods and when the girls were shown the metal horns hand sign for the first time they thought it looked like a fox and their manager ran with it, created this whole fox god lore about how the fox god summoned them to earth to unite the world through metal and such, adapted the hand sign to look like a fox and made it a symbol for the band and their fans. Kitsune is the Japanese word for fox and at the end of this Road of Resistance video Su (lead vocalist) shouts "Put your kitsune up!" and you see everyone throwing up the fox hand sign.

      @k-matsu 3 года назад +1

@@TheBandSShow Just to add some detail, the members of the Kami Band are all TOP session musicians, among the finest technical players in Japan. As someone else noted, at first the band was mediocre as the act was still experimental and the girls were still 12-13 or so. But after they started to attract attention, their producer and the record company (label) reacted to the huge popularity by drafting in the best backing players they had on staff. The songwriters and choreographer are also among the best in Japan (their choreographer is now hired to choreograph the opening ceremony for the Olympic Games).
You could compare it to how The Monkees got started in the US - at first it was mainly a gimmick, but as popularity increased they were getting contributions from big stars in the music business, and received songs by Goffin/King, James Taylor, Holland/Dozier/Holland and so on. It is the same for BabyMetal. In fact, the guitar bits on this cut were actually written by Dragonforce (Herman Li and Sam Totman), and they performed on the CD cut of this song.

Hey Brian and Stan! Awesome reaction! Just to give you some info on the Kami (God) Band, they represent the metal Gods of their respective instruments, so they wear some pretty crazy outfits. They've changed a couple times from these "burial" costumes. Last year they wore dark robes which I thought were really cool. This year they're wearing masks which, while cool looking, I always liked seeing their facial expressions, so the masks aren't super popular with the fans. You guys said you had two more lined up, I can't wait to see those!

Now imagine that energy for a complete show. I have been fan since 2013 and to me for your third song i woild recommend Karate from Download UK 2016. You are correct when saying they have their own genre of metal is right. They were created because metal scene was stagnate in Japan and Koba, the creator, heard Su, the lead singer and thought about combining J-pop and metal. And that is when Babymetal created their own genre. Again you aint seen nothing yet.

If you watch Ijime Dame Zetai live at Sonisphere you'll see the reaction of a load of serious metal heads to these girls. UK crowds are notorious for reacting badly to stuff they don't like. In my personal opinion, the original intention behind the Kami costumes was probably threefold:
    - According to the lore they were sent by the fox god, hence their „unearthly“ look
    - It was a means to increase the clashing between the cute, poppy side (represented by the girls) and the Metal side (represented by the instrumentalists)
    - In the beginning they were meant to stay in the background anonymously to keep the focus on the girls. Interestingly, that seemed to change a bit later (probably due to their popularity) and they even got solo spots. Unfortunately, in 2019 we are apparently seeing them going in the opposite direction again, since they are now wearing masks, and the solos both in the songs as well as between songs have been reduced a lot.

Welcome to the crazy and magical world of insanely talented Japanese bands. Every Babymetal song explores a different type of metal music and no two are alike. While Babymetal is busy re-inventing what metal can sound like, there's another Japanese band out there doing the same to heavy rock: Band-Maid.

I enjoyed this video lot! And yours was good, too. :-P I'm glad they succeeded in making you smile, because that's the mission. They are indeed unique in their approach to Metal (or maybe even music in general), and the Metal genre can use some fresh ideas. When has Metal ever made you smile like that?
I'd like to see you react to more of their songs, but please don't ecpect all songs to be like this, because hardly any two of them sound alike. The common demoninator is that they are all awesome, but in different flavours. I'd say this is one of those with the smallest kawaii factor. It would be interesting to see how you'd react to the really caries inducing ones. For some middle grounds my next recommendation would be Megitsune: ruclips.net/video/PUkzu1IJW4w/видео.html

I noticed you had some trouble posting this one, was it due to copyright issues? Usually this video does not have too many issues. Due to changing laws in Europe and US, more and more stuff is getting strikes or blocked. For your continued journey into Babymetal and many other Japanese groups, and increasingly more worldwide, you will probably need to switch to using the link and sync method. Just post the original link in the description and then give a countdown on when to start/stop. We are used to it, and it allows us to adjust the volume of both videos to a level we like. It will also allow you to react to the really good material on other sites such as Dailymotion.

@@peckoltia31 Personally I love the way Japanese sounds in song. The pronunciation of the Japanese characters is made for music. I can't understand much, but it doesn't matter much if the performance is great and sounds good. I can always google the lyrics if I want to know later. To be honest, I can't understand a lot of English lyrics by listening to them either. What I enjoy is the overall sound, and many Japanese bands/groups in differing genres, that I have listened to after discovering Babymetal, sound fantastic.

Band Maid are different yes, but infinitely better? Yeah right. They are reasonably good technically, but overall very boring to many of us. Their vocals are vanilla, monotone, & uninspiring. And their overall sound is just like MOST of the other 117,000 metal bands out there, minus the growls. I prefer "less authentic" and unique ANY DAY to "more authentic" and same-old-same-old (no group is truly authentic). Sorry. And I'm actually considering going to their concert. :-)
