    ⚡ 💀 💕 / 🏴 🏴 🏴
"Stand up and shout, Shout!, Justice Forever!" - (Road of Resistance) -
Pretty much a master class in audience control.
From a 17 year old, and two 15 year olds.
BABYMETAL believe that if a song sounds too much like one genre, then it's not a BABYMETAL song.
You can definitely feel the speed metal in this one though.
Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce provided guitar tracks for the studio version.
This performance was at Saitama Super Arena (SSA) in January of 2015, with a sold out crowd of over 20,000.
BABYMETAL's lead singer, Suzuka Nakamoto first appeared at SSA in 2008 as the youngest member of the J-Pop trio Karen Girl's, when she was 10 years old.
She's been back many times since, headlining with BABYMETAL.

Officially, Babymetal is just the three ladies. Their backing band is called the "kami band," but is not officially a part of Babymetal, and consists of a rotating group of players (though they have a mostly stable group of players). Yui is the member who left in 2018. They never officially replaced her, but they did add a trio of backup dancers called the "Avengers," who rotated in and out of Yui's dance spot in live shows, with Su and Moa continuing to handle all of the vocal duties. They have teased a major announcement planned for April, and there is a lot of conjecture that it may be the announcement of an official third member (probably Momoko, the most most stable of the Avengers, as the other two Avengers have other band and television commitments). This video features the original three.

Good introduction and first reaction ... and don't worry, BABYMETAL fans don't behave the way you might be used to from one or two other fandoms (I have heard stories). All we want is an honest reaction and if you don't like a song that doesn't matter as long as you're not rude about the girls (and you were certainly not rude at all). We are more likely to ask what sort of thing you do like and then try to find you something BABYMETAL have done that is more to your taste - but no pressure.
They have about 60 songs now, each one different to the last, so if this one doesn't appeal there will be others that probably will (and maybe a couple more that won't) - I'm sure we will find something anyway.
This performance was from 2015 at the Saitama Super Arena, Su-metal (lead singer) was 17, Yuimetal and Moametal still only 15 and they had 20,000+ people there completely under their control. This was the last song after about 90 minutes of that same energy and no let up in quality right from the first second.
It was Yui who left in 2018 after a 12 month absence for poor health. Su and Moa chose to continue as a duo since then and were supported by any one of 3 girls dancing in the third position - only one of them is left now since 2020 and it seems BABYMETAL are about to announce a new third member in April - most think it will be that dancer, her name is Momoko, but we don't know yet.
'Road of Resistance' is about forging your own road, not necessarily going the easy way or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way.
It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy route to follow.
Herman Li and Sam Totman from the British power metal band DragonForce did the guitar arrangements for this song and played on the recording for the studio album version (this was the Kami Band's live version of course - the Kami Band support BABYMETAL in all their live shows. They are among the very best session musicians to be found in Japan, every one of them a world class instrumentalist).
For something a bit slower from them perhaps - maybe 'Karate'. The official video is very good, but you may need to obscure it with a logo or filter of some sort to avoid it being blocked ... or you could see how they perform in pouring English rain without all the fire and big stages in front of a crowd who don't speak Japanese with the live performance at Download 2016.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's journey 🦊🤘🔥
Nice introduction to BM songs, this is an epic anthem they know fans love it and that's why is a must in every live concerts, they even performed this recently live at Makuhari Messe 2023 along with more hits and the new singles from new album The Other One released yesterday worldwide.
If this isn't the type of genre you like then there's no problem because BM catalogue is full of different songs you're gonna have so much fun.
    Next suggestion:
    - Megitsune live at Budokan 2014 or official MV.
Thanks for sharing this and see you next time 🦊🤘🔥

Babymetal is the OG that kicked the door down, and gave all the great Japanese womens rock/metal groups the ready acceptance in the west. Bands like Nemophila, Band Maid, Lovebite, Hanabie would have had a much harder time to gain any traction in the West, if it weren't for these 3 girls here, and their crazy ass producer Koba for coming up with the idea of combining Jpop and metal, we would be greatly deprived of some awesome music from Asia.
Combining the great vocal from Sumetal (time to check out Monochrome from First Take if you haven't), the fun energy choreo from Yuimetal and Moametal, the awesome musicianship from the Kamiband and you get a group that has won over critics and sceptics if not to outright love, to at least accept them amongst the ranks of metal music. With people like Rob Zombie, Rob Halford, Metallica, Red Hot Chili Pepper, Bring Me the Horizon, Sabaton, Slipknot, etc all showing their support or actively touring and performing with them, its hard to deny their metal cred. Some other great performances to checkout would be Karate from Download 2016 to see how a group of Western metalheads react to Babymetal in the pouring rain, Headbanger Legend 1997, Death from Legend 1997, Akatsuki Unfinished for a beautiful ballad, In The Name Of from Legend S Baptism XX concert for trhe wildest opening of a concert you'll ever see..... Have fun exploring Babymetal 😊🤘🦊🤘

To Shannon : Welcome & thanks from Japan 有難う💛。BABYMETAL is the best phenomenon in music I have ever experienced in my 67-year-long life. You can enjoy any type of song by BM, from ballad to blast, from Latin to Nordic.
This anthemic song was played in the latest shows on Jan.28/29 this year, and I ran in the circle pit for the first time in my life. 😄 The crowd involvement (mosh pit, call & response, chant etc.) occurs wherever they go on this planet. American people also did good job in any of 20 shows during BM's 2019 US Tour. For example, you can find videos showing 17,500 audiences doing the same chanting (even much longer one) at the Forum, CA on Oct. 11, 2019. In your video, Su shouted some words at 08:34 meaning "Bring them on!". Fans analyzed that the provocative shout was thrown at people who had been ignoring, underrating, mocking, hating and even trying to discredit BABYMETAL. That shout may have been necessary in 2015 but not any longer. She shouted it rarely since then. In the latest shows, happy smile by Su and Moa made the audience rejoice. In 2023, eight year after this show, the girls have grown up into beautiful ladies now and the maturity has added more attractiveness to this group.

"Road of Resistance" premiered at a concert as part of the band's Back to the USA / UK Tour 2014 at O2 Academy, Brixton, London, UK. The song was later performed at the encore of the show Legend "2015" New Year Fox Festival on January 10, 2015. That was 8 years ago and they've only got bigger...though why they're touring as guest support to Sabaton at the moment is beyond my understanding.

Road Of Resistance Live In Japan 🇯🇵:-
Su-Metal was 10 when she performed with Karen Girls at the SSA (SAITAMA SUPER ARENA). The Arena that night holds about 20000 Babymetal fans but when you see the centrepiece Island and the two curve bridge, it can hold up to 30000 or even up to 40000 depends on the configuration of Babymetal concert for each tour they performed. This song is co-written by Dragonforce with Herman Li and Sam Totman plays the guitar 🎸 solos, but Kami Band live show is brutal and tight. This is a classic Power Metal genre or speed metal as some might refer to. Bands like Dragonforce, Helloween and even Sabaton do power metal genre. Arkadia from Metal Galaxy Album is the successor to Road Of Resistance. At 17 Su-Metal alongside Yuimetal and Moametal who is 15 at that time, gave a perfect 👌 performance on how live show should be. This performance alone cemented my love ❤️ and appreciation for Babymetal. Kitsune Up 🦊🦊🦊🤘🤘🤘😍💕🌸🇯🇵🇸🇬#notacult. .

I'm very new to Babymetal but I would like to experience more. Lots of comments here are saying that they branch out into lots of different styles of metal or even other genres and I like the sound of that. Could someone please give me a little list of songs which are from all across the board? I'd like to see the full range of ability and styles, everything they have to offer. I'm normally more of a hard rock person than metal but this has me intrigued.

Welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole ... that is actually a hard question. They have about 60 songs and you'll have trouble finding two alike so what to recommend? I'll try.
      From the first album:
'Megitsune' is always a good place to start, possibly their most 'Japanese' song
'Iine' (that is iine (ee-neh) not Line) because it is quite confusing but it is great fun. MV
'Uki Uki Midnight' for some dub step. PV
'Catch Me If You Can' live at Budokan Black Night so you can see the Kami Band intro, then the best metal song about playing a game like hide & seek with an Oni (a sort of Japanese ogre)
'Onedari Daisakusen' for Nu-Metal (a Black BABYMETAL song - ie just the two younger girls)
      From the second album:
'Karate' for a catchy song with djent riffs. MV or live
      'YAVA' metal with ska
      'Awadama Fever' industrial metal pop-punk
'Syncopation' not sure how to label it, it is just a really good song
'From Dusk Till Dawn' live at Budokan 2021 - again hard to label, it stands alone
'No Rain, No Rainbow' a rock ballad live at Legend S (a Su-metal solo, just the lead vocalist)
'Tales of the Destinies' Prog Metal (should be followed by 'The One' Prog Metal ballad dedicated to the fans)
      From the third album:
'Da Da Dance' 80s style dance music (not an expert, I think that's what it is)
'Shanti Shanti Shanti' - Bollywood/India metal
'Oh! Majinai' melody from a Finnish polka, sort of folk jig
'Brand New Day' softer rock (guitarists from prog rock band Polyphia guest)
      'Night Night Burn' Latino Metal
'PA PA YA' bouncy fun with a guest rapper from Thailand
      'BxMxC' Metal Rap
      'Kagerou' rock
I could have just listed their entire catalogue (it looks like I nearly did), it is so hard to do a "short" list and I've missed out a lot of real gems. Maybe pick a few that look most appealing from those. Look for good live versions (I have specified a couple and I've put MV or PV next to two or three where the music video or promotional video are good for a first time listen).
Add 'METALIZM' from the new album for something completely different again. Have fun.🤘🦊

-Kagerou (since you mentioned that you like hard rock)**
      -Yava! (ska metal)
      -Iine! (EDM-crunk-jpop/metal)
      -Ijime, Dame, Zettai (power metal)
      -Syncopation (Metal/jpop)
-No rain no rainbow (power balad)
      -Tales of detinies (Prog metal)
Of course all live, they are better in live performances

    👍 👍
BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno (Yui left in 2018 due to health reasons). Both Moa and Yui were only 10 when the group began.
All three were friends and classmates who attended an idol school (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life the girls would learn and train to be idols and graduate at age 15 to move onto whatever entertainment path they chose.
Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result.
At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues) and Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
Suggest reacting to BabyMetal LIVE as this is where they shine. They have over 50 LIVE songs/performances and each one is different. They are fearless exploring many genres and have the respect of the legends of Metal such as Metallica, Slipknot, Rob Zombie, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Judas Priest and more.
Suggest reacting to these for a start.
Karate LIVE at 2016 Download Festival in the UK where 60,000+ British metal heads sing along with the girls.
    Megitsune LIVE
Catch Me If You Can LIVE with Kami Band intro
Good luck and hope to see you again.

BABYMETAL- the best, and possibly only, metal performance art company in the world. That doesn’t make them bad, far from it, and it’s probably even better viewed through that lens. They have some rabid fans who will disagree but whatever - I have all their albums and some rare merch these fans would be all about but that doesn’t alter the facts. One of the best things about BABYMETAL is the fact they are so diverse musically that they literally have something for everyone. They like to mix any music genre with metal: pop, EDM, ska, folk, rock, hip-hop... "Road of Resistance" is one of their most straight forward power/speed metal songs. But they have more poppier sounding songs or else some power ballads and even acoustic versions. I believe you would probably enjoy a beautiful power ballad like "No Rain no Rainbow" more.

Regarding, members leaving. They were three members from the beginning: Su, Moa and Yui. One member has left, and that was Yui. She left, I think, 2018. It is a secret why she left and where she are. Most guesses that she became ill. She was the cutest, by far. She is the one to the right in the beginning, the one with round cheeks. She likes tomatoes. And that was important.
Then Yui left and has not been replaced. Babymetal is since then two girls. No one has replaced Yui. But ... after a year or two they started to rotate several girls instead of Yui in the dance numbers, just because three looks better than one. But the third girl is totally quiet, do not shout or sing.
And now - Babymetal is doing a comeback after some quiet years. And then it is only two - Su and Moa - I think. But we have not seen any live performances yet.- Do not know what happens then.

Yeah, Road of Resistance isn't one of my favorites either. Which songs DON'T I skip? Headbanger, Megitsune, Ijime Dame Zettai, YAVA, Awadama Fever, Karate, Syncopation, Shine, Papaya, Mirror Mirror, Onidari Daisakusen, and Sis Anger.
    My top 12.

True, this was the Ending of the show, and they keep their energy during all the show!
They have slower songs, heavier songs, poppier songs. I'm sure you will find something that she will like! What are her tastes? Knowing that it will be easier to suggest something :)
They have more than 60 songs, and just few of those sounds fast like this :D

Thanks for this reaction, but having floor tickets is one of the best things about going to see Babymetal ! 🙂 Other than the wall of death, it's circle pit most of the time, which is a much kinder form of audience participation than a moshpit. Having said that, I do believe the pits in the US are the roughest, compared to Europe/Canada/Mexico or Japan.
She is a tough audience, but we'll get her in the end...

I think the mosh pits in the UK are the most brutal ones, but I might be wrong, since I never been in a US one (yet xd).

Hey, no hate here - BM has a hugely diverse range of sounds, it turns out that ROR is a power-metal 80s infused Dragonforce type song but I absolutely guarantee you'll find one you like if you keep hunting around. Enjoy the journey. :)

Great reaction guys. BABYMETAL's music is quite diverse and so is the fanbase because of this, so don't worry about not liking a few of the songs. The fan base can be quite split about most songs. I like a lot of their lower-rated songs like Meta Taro, 4 No Uta they are just fun live performance pieces. But I'm going to suggest Onedari Daisakusen - LIVE LEGEND 1997
