- After parking his frontline racing career, which included a stint in US F2000 and Formula Ford, Co Meath native Keith Donegan is fully focused on life as RPM team owner in the Formula Regional European Championship by Alpine (FRECA) where he hopes to give Irish drivers an opportunity on the route towards Formula One.
Donegan's been speaking to RTÉ Sport's Raf Diallo in-depth about RPM's early days and in this portion of the conversation, the 25-year-old explains the obstacles that are hindering Irish drivers making it in the upper echelons of motor racing since the days when Eddie Irvine and the Jordan Grand Prix team graced F1.

Current year: to be in F1 you need to have 3 things: shitload of money, media presence, talent (in that order). All three of these are interchangeable but mandatory. The only driver from the island of Ireland that has come close the last 20 years is Adam Carroll (he beat the likes of Hamilton, Rosberg etc but actually turned down F1 as he didn't want to be a backmarker.....that all you can hope for when talent is all you have), however there is one driver, who I was glad to see mentioned here, who has impressed me so much as to say he is my favourite driver, Alex Dunne. He is one the few drivers in the modern age to let his talent do the talking over his media presence or wealth. If Ireland GAVE A FUCK, he would be World Champion in 2-3 years. DO YOU GIVE A FUCK?
Getting into F1 is extremely difficult. Guys that have been in F1 for a long time like Hamilton, vettel, Alonso plus paid drivers like latifi and stroll taking up seats.. . Theres so many guys fighting for a seat with only 20 seats
