There may have never been a lyric written as perfectly as "The air is as still as the throttle on a funeral Train"
Unless you count, "The sun's goin' down and the moon is just holdin' it's breath"

id go for 'my daddy died on the porch outside one august afternoon. I sipped bourbon and cried, with a friend by the light of the moon.' perfect

I consider, "there's a hole in Daddy's arm where all the money goes," the most heartbreaking lyric in my 61 years.

@@deanbyrne8165 My vote too. For this song. My favorite all-time John Prine verse is from "That's the Way the World Goes Round," which is "I was stuck in the ice without my clothes. Naked as the eyes of a clown."

Thank you! This is one of my favorite of his songs, and he doesn't do it often.

Excluding family and friends, he's my favorite human. I love you John Prine.

Such an amazing song. Why do people think they have the right to yell during the quiet spaces? Just shut up and listen, y'all. A quiet moment in a song is not made for the audience to fill it with noise.
