Have discovered and have been getting into The Cure these last several months. The timing of this video taken on Arsenio's show was profound as Robert had just gotten married (I believe), The Cure had just had many great hits come out, and of course they had not played in the US before on such a grand stage. I loved seeing Robert smile at the end of the show...eh seemed very happy. This must have been one of the highlights of their lives and now they have recently been put into the RHOF. I cannot get over how many great, insteresting, excellent and beautiful songs they have created. I remember being excited about this, i vhs taped it...never thought I'd see this again! Through the years i always thought about how he ended the song with those extra guitar licks! Thanks for the upload!
my favorite thing about the cure is there pure authenticity. they could’ve gotten on television in america much earlier. but they wouldn’t compromise their sound or their image. a defining moment for american goth culture
Amazing that it took The Cure until '88 to get a TV slot in the States. They were already massive and had been for a few years. The expression on Robert Smith at the beginning says it all ('it's about bloody time, bastards'). Magnificent.
The Cure's Kiss Me... Tour. I saw them when they toured the Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me Album. Fourth row floor seats in Toronto at Exhibition Stadium. My first Cure Concert (not my last). No opening act, billed as "An Evening With The Cure". Long, Incredible concert.
It was a time of expression, and freedom of speech. You could say something and no one was worried that someone might have their feelings hurt. I listened to The Cure on WLIR radio in the early 80s while going to St.Johns University. It seems like yesterday.
@@Maleficent63 Yawn. You still have freedom of speech and other people have freedom to reply whether they agree or disagree. Still plenty of great stuff around today regardless. Apart from Trump, obviously.
this band and this song have been my closest friends ever...I can always rely on them when things were not great, and when they were great, I danced like crazy to them..
I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast. I tried to record it on VHS but missed the first few seconds of it. I'd actually seen the band live at Giants Stadium a month before this. Ah, the memories.
In the Cure's catalog there's a lot of humanity in Smith's songwriting it makes the difference to me true artists give their heart, speak with it and help us through life
Once upon a time, in a small town nestled amidst rolling green hills, there lived a group of friends who found solace and joy in their shared experiences. Their laughter echoed through the streets, and their dreams danced beneath the starry night sky. It was a time when the world seemed filled with possibility, and the bonds they forged were unbreakable. At the heart of their close-knit circle was a young couple, Emily and David, whose love story was like a symphony playing softly in the background. They were inseparable, their love radiating through every action and word. The lyrics of The Cure's timeless ballad, "Love Song," seemed to whisper their tale with heartfelt precision: "Whenever I'm alone with you You make me feel like I am home again." Emily and David's love was a sanctuary, a place where they found comfort and acceptance. Together, they explored the depths of their souls, discovering shared passions and hidden dreams. Their love infused the air they breathed, wrapping them in a warm embrace as they walked hand in hand along the old town streets. "But if I told you I loved you Would you take my hand?" One day, as the sun painted the sky in hues of gold, Emily and David made a pact. They vowed to cherish every moment, to savor each passing day as if it were their last. Time seemed irrelevant, and they found themselves entwined in an eternal embrace, oblivious to the world outside. Their love bloomed like a thousand roses in the heart of spring. They danced beneath a canopy of stars, their laughter echoing across meadows and fields. The world was their canvas, and their love was the brush that painted memories upon it. "However far away I will always love you" But as life often does, it beckoned them toward different paths. Circumstances pulled them apart, and distance separated their bodies, but their souls remained forever intertwined. The lyrics echoed in their hearts, reminding them that love transcends physical barriers. Emily moved to a bustling city, chasing her dreams of becoming an artist. David, driven by his passion for science, embarked on a journey to study the mysteries of the universe. The distance between them grew, and the ache of separation became a constant companion. In the midst of their trials, they discovered the power of words. They poured their hearts onto paper, writing letters brimming with love, nostalgia, and dreams of a future reunion. Every word carried the essence of their unwavering commitment: "However long I stay I will always love you" Days turned into months, and months turned into years. Each passing season etched a new chapter into their story, but the love they shared remained unwavering. Their paths were laden with challenges and triumphs, and they grew individually, discovering new facets of their being. Then, one day, destiny beckoned them back to their beloved hometown, where it all began. Emily and David found themselves standing beneath the same starry sky that had witnessed their love blossom. Time had etched lines upon their faces, but their eyes still sparkled with the same flame that ignited their souls years ago. As they walked along the old town streets, memories flooded their senses, weaving an intricate tapestry of laughter, tears, and shared dreams. The lyrics of their love song floated on the gentle breeze, blending with the rustling leaves and the whispers of the past. And as they stood together, hand in hand, they realized that the story they had woven was a testament to the enduring power of love. It had weathered the storms of time and distance, proving that even when life seems chaotic and unpredictable, love can be a steady anchor that guides us back to the better days gone by. They smiled, knowing that their love story would forever serve as a reminder that true connection, cherished memories.
This song could be released today and it will still be a hit. Timeless.

I loved seeing Robert smile at the end of the show...eh seemed very happy. This must have been one of the highlights of their lives and now they have recently been put into the RHOF. I cannot get over how many great, insteresting, excellent and beautiful songs they have created. Reznor was spot on when he said, and I paraphrase, The Cure is one of the most excellent bands of all time.
shocking that this was their first U.S. live performance and I was already a big fan.
Such a lovely man, such a cracking voice.
Great song. Great performance.
I remember being excited about this, i vhs taped it...never thought I'd see this again!
Through the years i always thought about how he ended the song with those extra guitar licks!
Thanks for the upload!
I totally set my VCR for this moment.
In 1988 ?
@@Josh_J91 yeah bro. Not all DVD players could record back in 1988.
@@opwave79 hahahahahahha
Such a great lyric--what a brilliant, romantic song.
This actually is from 1989. September 6th, 1989 to be exact. Thanks for posting this awesome video. I agree that it's the best line up ever.
Heaven on earth! Thanks Robert.
my favorite thing about the cure is there pure authenticity. they could’ve gotten on television in america much earlier. but they wouldn’t compromise their sound or their image. a defining moment for american goth culture
I think their best album is Disintegration. But if you want to hear their musical range and evolution you have to listen to Kiss me, kiss me, kiss me.
ONE OF THE BEST CURE LINEUPS!
Excellent version.
I wish I could stuck forever in the 80s
It was a time of expression, and freedom of speech. You could say something and no one was worried that someone might have their feelings hurt. I listened to The Cure on WLIR radio in the early 80s while going to St.Johns University. It seems like yesterday.
@@Maleficent63 Yawn. You still have freedom of speech and other people have freedom to reply whether they agree or disagree. Still plenty of great stuff around today regardless.
Apart from Trump, obviously.
Allan Buchanan racist.
Allan Buchanan
Trump made everything a bit more fun
I played this at my husband's funeral January 2021 ❤ we love The Cure
Young Robert--still so arresting to my ears, eyes, and heart. ❤
Holly White he was really handsome right?! I’d totally forgotten!
Music worth the while, one of my most favorite songs back in the day from The Cure.
Lyrics that actually meant something
Time goes by way too fast!! In 89 my daughter was 4 and i was 27 and we were going by greyhound bus to California from Wisconsin😎💗☺
Einer der großen Wahrheiten der Musik...Danke Robert...In großer Zuneigung
This song never ever gets olds.
this band and this song have been my closest friends ever...I can always rely on them when things were not great, and when they were great, I danced like crazy to them..
I remember seeing this when it was first broadcast. I tried to record it on VHS but missed the first few seconds of it. I'd actually seen the band live at Giants Stadium a month before this. Ah, the memories.
incredible voice and the band gives me the chills still!!!!! beaitiful
one thing in common for all of us is that time is not playing around it's moving forward quickly
Top 10 songs of the 80's for sure... Thank you Robert.
In the Cure's catalog
there's a lot of humanity in Smith's songwriting
it makes the difference to me
true artists give their heart, speak with it
and help us through life
Props to Rock ‘nRoll Hall of Fame winners 2019!!
This song will always be my favorite. It makes me feel so good when I hear it!
The lyrics of The Cure's timeless ballad, "Love Song," seemed to whisper their tale with heartfelt precision:
"Whenever I'm alone with you
You make me feel like I am home again."
Emily and David's love was a sanctuary, a place where they found comfort and acceptance. Together, they explored the depths of their souls, discovering shared passions and hidden dreams. Their love infused the air they breathed, wrapping them in a warm embrace as they walked hand in hand along the old town streets.
"But if I told you I loved you
Would you take my hand?"
One day, as the sun painted the sky in hues of gold, Emily and David made a pact.
"However far away
I will always love you"
But as life often does, it beckoned them toward different paths.
Every word carried the essence of their unwavering commitment:
"However long I stay
I will always love you"
Days turned into months, and months turned into years.
Holy shit! - so that's what music sounds like!
