Over 50 years ago when I was a teenager, my dad bought a van and built a mini kitchen in back with seats. He made it so they could fold out a platform in the back for Mom and Dad to sleep on. I was a small build and my bed was the back seat. We traveled through the Midwest to visit relatives and drove to Alaska! It was great!
I know I’m late to the party but this just popped up for me & I would like to stop to say thank you for this video. I bought a truck I absolutely love a few years back & my hubby drove it before he passed. It’s a 1986 Chevy Silverado 3/4 ton w a 454 & it’s original (rust & all) & it takes me back to my teenage years. Riding in it is amazing to me & very nostalgic. Well I’ve had many offers to purchase it as most men who see it want it & I know what a gem she truly is. However she’s been sitting in my driveway since I’ve purchased my 2003 Subaru Forester, which I also love. The thought of selling both to purchase & build a van has wandered thru my mind a few times but my sentimental attachments stop me. You have encouraged me to consider this more so than ever before. I could build a camper for the truck but I want to access the driving from the living spaces. Anyway, I didn’t mean to ramble on I just wanted to thank you for your encouragement & wise words. 🥰

Many seem to end up in a van. It is hard to afford when you are really down on savings or the money you make so I am still saving.

Welcome to the van world. I got a GMC Savana that is exactly like a Chevy Express. After a year of not being able to stand up, I knew I had to do something....I finally took her to LA (fiberine, best in the US) and got the 2ft high top with windows. So glad I did. It was a game changer. I love this life. Good luck to you. I’m just about to launch my channel..procrastinating!

I watched your vid where you were living in a car in the cold. I did it in miami and San Diego. I wouldn’t do in cold .... love getting all the tips from you!!!! The nose warmer!!! The backseat bed ... mine was real cozy. Now my car is too small, Chevy spark. :( but I want a van. I was thinking about my friend who judged me when I was doing it it in Florida to save money. I was working. I had a 24 hour fitness membership. it was no big deal. I had a trunk for my work stuff and it was super comfortable. And my friend judged me. It was so upsetting. I saved a lot of money doing it.

It sounds like you got a great deal! Congratulations! Fiberene is the best place to raise the roof, but pricey. But you got such a deal on the van it’s worth considering.

I'm getting into the "van life" but I'm in a car and in the fridged northeast. Not looking forward towards the winter but I'm getting prepared before it starts to snow lol. Hoping to survive the winter up here haha. Anyways thanks for all the tips and everything def appreciate it. Glad you were able to get a van now!! Congrats!
Thank you! I actually really liked being in my car, even in the cold. I started to acclimate a bit as I went. But I'm also grateful that I'm going to move into a van. Hang in there, this is temporary and just take it one day at a time!
Lived in a dodge conversion van (no shower, no stove, no bathroom, but had a tv and vcr) for 9mnths in Hs.
God I hated it, but I was also living in it, with my step mom, dad, 2 sisters, and a dog 🐕. So, it was cramped (I slept on the driver seat and passenger seat on top of an ice chest.
Glad u found found one u like. I did enjoy a chevy mini Astro van I had after Hs, put (2) 12” speakers 🔊 in the back, some tire fly? lights on the valve stems that lit up. Luckily didn’t have to live in it… but my friends and I enjoyed cruising in it…got pulled over one day with the sliding door open friends were in the captain chairs in the middle… cop pulled us over and said we could do that, but no one could sit in the chair 🪑 next to the 🚪 door. I miss having my dad, to go look at vehicles with me…

Always trust the journey eh.... i missed having a camper so much.. I had a lovely convertible but it wasn’t practical so I literally found a tiny suv at a garage and offered to do a straight swop..ripped out the seats and made it home.. ✌️✌️

I really like your channel. You inspire me to take my 2 girls on more road trips. Everyone always discourages us because of safety issues (basically because we are females). But I think that anything could happen even in our own city, so why live in fear? I always plead the blood of Jesus over us. Looking forward to new travels. Stay blessed.

Totally 🙂 I remember when I started camping in my car as a 20-something solo female (mostly at state parks & actual campgrounds), my parents were so concerned and thought it was unsafe, and I'm like, camping in a tent is safer?! FOR REALZ??!!! In a car you're locked in a very-difficult-to-compromise unit, plus if something's going on outside that makes you feel uncomfortable, you just slip into the driver's seat and drive away. Agreed - pay attention to your surroundings / choose a judicious location, I bought some pepper spray to have quick access to at night & while traveling, and pay attention to the Holy Spirit's leadings in your spirit, and you guys go have fun!!!! 😃

Hi Allison. Welcome to van ownership. It's not all "unicorns & rainbows" with a van. The biggest difference is feeding that thing. It's no Kia, I can tell you that. BUT.. What you lose in fuel economy, you gain in comfort. Like 10 times the comfort. I went from a Fiero, a little 2-seater car, to my 1990 Dodge B-250 conversion van. Another thing that might be a downside is that a big Chevy van is going to stick out a lot more than a Kia. If stealth is your thing, well.. you just lost it. Now I want to say that I don't live in my van. It's more of a pleasure cruiser for me. But when it comes to camping and road trips, it's SO MUCH BETTER! On my last camping trip, while everyone else was wringing out their tents and hanging blankets in trees to dry them out after the inevitable rain, I'm chilling in my van with everything dry. The rear bench is power folding to turn into a full bed. When out cruising with friends, we can stop to eat and be comfortable right in the van. We can only get drive through due to this "covid" malarkey. But I just turn the second row seats around to face the rear bench and we can sit facing each other and talk, eat, and sit comfortable while having nice lighting and the rear heater keeping us warm. I'm planning to upgrade my van to have a 2000 watt inverter, and a rearview camera. Being older, it's far less "plastic-ey" than something modern. The trim is all oak. The walls & ceiling are all plush, wine-red velour. The aircraft-style lighting is perfect for putting light where it's needed. I upgraded it all to warm-white LED bulbs. If I were to go on a long road trip, (and I will someday) I'll be heading out on the road in my three-tone, (Burgundy, Red and Silver) 1990 Dodge B250 Ram van.
I love it. I'm not even a fan of Dodges, and I love my van. I think you are in for a treat. You're going to really like having more room and having the little cabinets to put things. I would be sure that the battery is the highest capacity that the charging system can handle, and I'd get a properly installed inverter. And leave the roof alone. Messing with that is inviting trouble. Leaks, making the interior match up, making the exterior match up, etc etc. I'm 5-7 like you, and like yours, my van is about 5-4 inside. I wouldn't bother with it.

I was living in my truck. And winter is coming on quick here in Wisconsin. I found an 88 model RV for sale cheap. As when the the wind chills can hit -48 below living in my truck is not really an option. I just have to find places to park it.
