My father worked overseas and he died in there, he only came home once when i was in grade 2, he died when i was in grade 6. I don't have a very good memory of my childhood but i remember him puting on music (he loved music) and doing silly dances for me and my older brother to make us laugh while my mom is cooking, we don't usually eat in a dining table when we were little, but during those months he always insist on eating together. Im so sad I can't payback his sacrifices for us, but i hope i can do that to my mama❤

You made me remember the first time I heard this song… 5AM, Spring 2021, the sun is already on the way up (it was looking to be a good day)… song plays, tears just streaming from my eyes non-stop. My wife woke up, found me inconsolable in a corner. She asked me why am I crying. I can only say “…SB19”. She the asked, “one of them died?”. I said no, listen to their new song Mapa. She did and we were crying together. We haven’t gone home to visit them for nearly 6 years by then because of the pandemic. We were about to go home in June 2021 but it was not about to happen. Took us a good 30mins more before we composed ourselves. Thank God, our daughter was still asleep. So, yeah… you’re not alone in this.
Same here. i was so surprised, i first dismissed this when a male friend kept on telling me about this song. I was so irritated back then because i thought it was a love song of the boyfriend/girflriend type. I first got curious about GENTO i thought it was some random international band. And the rest was history (of losing sleep watching everything about SB19 😂) so i was taken aback that MAPA was also by SB19. I then went to watch this as i was about to sleep. It was a crying fest for me until sleep took over after about an hour of crying. Both my parents passed away circa 2000.

Our Map is our [1]MaPa in this Life journey. Both used and present on this song. This is a masterpiece written by Pablo in collaboration with the rest of SB19. The release of the magical song was intended between the mother’s day and father’s day since the song is for them.
This is a love letter to our parents. For some if not most, we barely tell our parents how we feel inside. This masterpiece will help us do another move to tell them how much we value and love them.
In the song, “we will never get lost because we have the Mapa (Map)”. The map represent our parents. The things they taught us, the sacrifices, the advice they give and hardships. We will never get lost so long as we have the Map (Map). The Map that we can bring anywhere we go. The map that contains all the leanings and guidance our [1]MaPa gave us.
In the Filipino culture (or prolly in other culture), we children have great regard to our parents / elderly. Most of us we would want to give back. Times wherein we just want our parents to stay still, we want to serve them and it’s time for us (children) to do the rest. We want them to rest from the tiresome days and time they give and sacrifices for us.
This song hits the hardest if we have those regrets if not being able to give back and let them rest from those tiring days they spent for us. Regrets prolly due to some unforeseen events. Event where they can no longer hear our “thank you” and gratefulness towards them. Regrets prolly because we don’t have the capability yet of returning the favor (though they never ask for it). Regrets prolly because we are far from them and this pandemic is hindering us of being with them or for any reason.
Normally our parents (MaPa) would not share how hard life is, they would not tell us how tight things are. They would always keep inside them the struggles they are facing and normally they will always show their happy face for us not to worry. There’s this Filipino saying “isusubo nalang nila, ibibigay pa sa’yo” This can be translated as our parent always put us first.
First part of the song, Justin talks about how our parents (MaPa) prioritize us in all aspects. In the Filipino culture, remember the day when you as a kid cries asking for a balloon and our parent would graciously get some coins and buy one for you. That moment we can only see the our happiness for getting what we simply want, but we cannot see their smile because we are happy with a simple thing.
Josh’s part where he heed the memories and advise his (a) father gave him. That even though they are not together he promised of keeping them. 😭😭😭 I never listened to "MAPA" since it was released. I'd been hearing it around me, but I didn't pay attention to the lyrics because I knew what it was all about. When it was released, I was in my first two years of working and had to leave my family to support them. During that time, my mom was always sick, and it was the pandemic. I knew that listening to this song would break my heart. I don't have any dreams for myself ever since my mom and my father got sick. My dream is to spend time with them where I don't have to leave, but I just can't because I have to provide for them. Watching you crying brought out all the tears I kept from avoiding this song, "MAPA."

I'm sorry to hear about your dad. Mapa of SB19 is an eye opening. Sometimes we took iur parents for granded while growing up. Sometimes what we always see is our self, all about us but we forgot them and what they've done when we were babies and their sacrifices. The lyric says, "when I was young, you prepared my heart for the things that the world brings", which very true. Our success in life is success of our parents too. I watched reactions of this song every day for that year and still a year and a half after he passed on I still watch new reactors discover this song. SB19 ballads will put you on an emotional rollercoaster. All there songs are written about their life experiences, mostly by Pablo, the leader. I really hope you watch more. I keep watching all the rv of this song too. It has become some sort of a therapy, to find a "community" of people whose hearts were touched by this song, offering some kind of comfort, to ease the pain i feel whenever the thought crosses my mind that i can no longer pay back my parents for their love and care for me. 💘

The lyrics is so beautiful I wish you could hear it with Filipino ears. For example the lyrics that says "tahan na.." you say that to a child to sooth him from crying. MAPA also means map, like Mama Papa you are my map. Mata- eyes, Paaa- feet.. Mapa. It has a double meaning, it's incredibly beautiful.

Ma-Pa is a smart way of hiding a song for a parent with first impressions of a Map. You are still blessed you have a Mom here on earth. My Father passed away when I was three. All my life, I have been with my Mom alone. Then, later she was taken to heaven by angels when I was 25 years old. I am already technically a total orphan. There are many dreams that I was not able to fulfill for my Mom. Before and sometimes, I felt the same way you felt not being able to meet their expectations and not being able to give them a best if not a better life before they left earth. But the truth about Ma-Pa(Mama-Papa) is that no matter how we fail and seem to be a failure, they still love us unconditionally. There may be heart-aches sometime, but it will also fade, and their love will always surface above all. While our parent/s is still alive, let us let them know and feel how we love them, because when we see them inside a coffin, it will break and tear you so much, knowing that they can no longer look at you in the eye, and can no longer hear you words no matter how you shout in their ears. This is me when i first heard this song. Im inconsolable and just missed my mama and papa so much. My dad passed away over a decade ago and I miss him so much.
