I just found out this is my great grandfather. Didnt even know he was on RUclips. I never had the opportunity to meet this man and I thank you for this opportunity to see him sing.
Looks like Boyd rivers that walks up on the left. Did Lomax get everyone to come to the same place at the same time to record these? I swear its the same porch as the Big Bill broonzy Black and white videos were filmed.
this is my grand dad never met him in my life we didnt even no he was on youtube ...........brought tears to my eyes my dad talks about him sometimes........and i no deep down inside he miss him im 23 years ole and this is my first time seeing him..........also found out he taught elvis presley how to play
i left corrina ... im gonna leave you ... you know she left me, way down in the valley ... she was my baby ... baby please dont leave me, dont leave me here now ... way down in the bottom ... tell me whos that yonder, coming down the road now ... looks like little mattie, but she walks too slow slow ... will you please tell her hurry ... tell me whos that yonder, lord its alberta i left alberta, across the sea ... that fool got drownded, swimming after me ... LORD HAVE MERCY.
The two feet tapping sounds great. I thought it was the other people on the porch until the camera panned down. Great performance! I just love these Alan Lomax projects, they expose me to musicians that I've never heard of.
Wow, that was raw. Love it. This is why I love the blues and almost exclusively play it. Some of my worries are different than his were, but it's still the blues. Owe these old fellas a lot for providing an invaluable emotional outlet.
My ex guitar teacher used to call the blues primitive and technically wrong, i said to him to play it and he said he couldn't. the blues is something you have inside like this guy..
A pretty special song from a pretty beat up guitar. These days many people are precious about their equipment but their music is unspectacular to say the least.
When the internet first came out (remember the Information SuperHighway?) I thought it was going to be full of stuff like this. That cultures would share their art and knowledge.
@@sawyergipson8548 Maybe OP's a little silly for assuming they didn't have a TV in 1978, but were you seriously suggesting that they recorded this on a smartphone, lol?
Does anyone know if Clyde Maxwell and Belton Sutherland's music has ever been recorded and published in an audio format? I've found a label called Front Porch Archives, but they look sketchy, as if they pulled the audio from RUclips and sold it or something.
Magik WolfPack I'm fairly certain. that's not only the same looking guitar, but it's the same setting that Sutherland played in, in other videos, and is also in that C variant tuning that Sutherland was using. all fingers are pointing to it being the same guitar.
It's in standard tuning, A position, but he may not be tuned to concert pitch. Tune your 5th string until it matches his pitch, tune the other strings relative to your 5th string and play an A chord.
i am im on youtube i do write music and plays type in clyde gospel play and watch every one that has brother sammy behind it just my character in the play and thanks

So youngnechi1 is your dad?
Denise Di Salvo No......far from it. I don't even know who he is.
Denise Di Salvo this is my grandmother's father...... Therefore my great grandfather.
Bet finding this made ya killer proud! Thanks for sharing that comment, made my day!
AfternoonAcoustic killer??
Love how Belton Sutherland is in the background rolling a cig...
Ahh, another cultured soul . Man I'd pay a fortune to sit on that porch when these were made.

why not,i'll press that repeat button again...for the 34th time...
what a greaat voice ❤❤
This guys blues style is something unique. I don't know how to really explain it, but it's like a story (simple) with emotion (complex).
So simple and so divine sounding. Gets me into trance state. I literally cry while hearing these sounds.
Also very smooth like a well aged spirit.
The two feet tapping sounds great. I thought it was the other people on the porch until the camera panned down. Great performance!

I agree 🤗🤗♥️

Nick B I know exactly what you mean. You don't need to have been a poor black farm slave down in the Delta, to feel the blues. :)
She was my baby, Lord have mercy! This blues is intense man.
My ex guitar teacher used to call the blues primitive and technically wrong, i said to him to play it and he said he couldn't. the blues is something you have inside like this guy..
Lorenzki travis primitive and technically wrong... Where's exactly the wrong part? 😂
Thank god its primitive and technically wrong. The best things are
You did not have a good guitar teacher.
There is no rules to the blues. I'm 70 years old. Been playing Blues all my life.
haha what an asshat, your teacher
That was bad ass! Never heard before. Love it.
A pretty special song from a pretty beat up guitar. These days many people are precious about their equipment but their music is unspectacular to say the least.
Sticks and stones will make a song great..as long as you have the heart.
Dem North Mississippi hill blues. Beautiful ole sad lonesome song. Dear God in Heaven have Mer-say!!!
the art and integrity of not hitting a certain Note. Instead Creating. GOd's Work. Creativity.

Godspeed to all of you.
Jesus Christ that is beautiful music. Anybody know the lyrics?
Well we know he left Corrina and appears to have some regret about it, and then did it again when he left Alberta.

Is that sutherlands guitar?
Magik WolfPack I'm fairly certain. that's not only the same looking guitar, but it's the same setting that Sutherland played in, in other videos, and is also in that C variant tuning that Sutherland was using. all fingers are pointing to it being the same guitar.
According to the description on Belton Sutherland's song, this is Clyde's guitar.
. . . yeah, probably.
Somebody maybe can write the lyrics please 🙏
This is unreal.
Does anybody have an idea about the guitar tuning he's using?
It's tuned in "Rock Your Heart."
Is this open tuning? lovely piece!
Yes, this is in Open D, i guess.
It's in standard tuning, A position, but he may not be tuned to concert pitch. Tune your 5th string until it matches his pitch, tune the other strings relative to your 5th string and play an A chord.
I have a real bad Jones for this part of youtube.
Does anybody know what is that guitar?
Its an old kay,,made in the USA,,in the 40,,s I think..
Kay imperial archtop i believe
Ragged and Dirty - Willie Brown
Does someone hknow what kind of guitare it is, please ?
old guitar with original strings.
It's an archtop guitar specifically, looks like maybe an old Epiphone or Gibson model but they were way more common back then
@@jamesedwards2869 Thanks for your answer, 11 years after! Glad to see my comment is still seen!

There's pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp stew, shrimp...
@binguhj
Looks like a Kay to me
Kinda sounds a bit like Skip James and Jack Owens. Definitely picking up some Bentonia vibes from this!
National Anthem for all my imaginary nations
Un blues dont les intonations se mélangent parfois avec l'Afrique.
I do i do. Pearly May Elise, do you?
