    • @DesmoWerx
      @DesmoWerx  3 года назад

      Hi Carlos, the 749 uses a Testastretta engine. I have deme some videos on a 749 engine build before onthe channel.

    Someone has center punched the casing to stop the bearing outer spinning in the case. Thats my guess. :)

  • @chrislee7817
    @chrislee7817 3 года назад +1

    Do you think that damage was done using a gear from the gearbox to press out the bearing support ring ? Either that or done to improve the interference fit? Or just very poor work! 😱

    • @DesmoWerx
      @DesmoWerx  3 года назад

      Hi Chris, Just looks like poor workmanship, might of used a gear wheel but the gouges are all different sizes and there are punch marks in the hardened bearing carrier. Dodgy workmanship 😢

    Hi Neil, quick question for you... I changed the belts and oil in a friend's W reg 748 yesterday..30k on clock.. upon removing the sump plug there was alot of metal filings on the magnet , but even more alarming was a sizable portion of a large washer... the sort of washer that would sit under a large securing nut, like would hold a clutch basket on for example....... clearly we are concerned but generally its running well...starting well hot or cold.... no smoke from exhaust and no excess noise bar a very worn clutch... of course it needs further investigation but have you ever seen similar in your experience? Some years ago i did an oil change in another friend's 916 and we extracted a piece of swarf.... but we spoke to the specialist who supplied the parts and he felt this wasn't uncommon on new engines..... but this looks different.....more like a failed component vs a piece of metal the engine has machined off itself while running in!
    Any thoughts gratefully recieved,
    I could email you a picture as I have one of the item.
    Regards
    Peter

    Ducati mechanical engineering still amazes me.... may I ask, how much time does it take you to do a rebuild on a desmoquattro or testastretta?

    • @DesmoWerx
      @DesmoWerx  3 года назад

      It depends on the level of the work required and the condition of the engine. If its a standard build with no issues I can usually turn it around in about a day and a half.

    Thank for the video mate :)
    Don't you think the impacts on the case are made on purpose to avoir this cylinder (metal around bearing inside the case) to turn. I know it can be an issue I had this on mine. The solution I used was to add mark on the cylinder to lock it better into the case, but I didn't damage the case the way it is on yours.

    • @DesmoWerx
      @DesmoWerx  3 года назад +1

      Hi Romain, that wold make sense if the builder had indent/witness marked the bearing holder but this has chunks of the cases just hammered through, I would rather use bearing lock if that were an issue than damage the cases! 😊

    • @DesmoWerx
      @DesmoWerx  3 года назад +1

      Hi Vojta, no its not, it was a generic motorcycle sound of a library. I must get to recording one of my own bikes. 😊

  • @76Gazz
    @76Gazz 3 года назад +1

    I'm not sure of this information is classified for any particular reason but how much should someone typically be paying for this sort of work? I am slowly collecting Ducati's and one or two of them are definitely in need of some love due to poor servicing by previous owners. I believe the main bearing has gone in my 916 and my 1198 is staring to knock. I guess you get what you pay for but if a good quality workshop is doing the honours is an hourly rate plus the parts going to cost more than you paid for the bike? I want all my engines "As New" standard as possible without having to re-mortgage the house.

    • @DesmoWerx
      @DesmoWerx  3 года назад

      Hi Aiden, it really comes down to what you want done and the condition of the engine that is being worked on. It can get silly if you tune the balls off the engine. The main cost is usually the parts involved.
