I've certainly heard cases where the teacher will begin texting them outside of school hours or contacting them via gaming.
This is the thing - when you are online it's a very solo/isolating experience and it gives the illusion of familiarity and intimacy, so these kids never stood a chance.
I really hope parents are able to better protect their kids when it comes to devices 😕

I would add there is an ongoing stereotype that tries to paint a caricature of who a groomer is heavily on social media and I think this trend is overshadowing actual victims of grooming, when often in reality it is so far from that stereotype you get a case like this where the teacher seems to believe initially this was normal? its so strange.
It's really only with reference to men. Women never seem to do things like that, at least as identified socially. When was the last time you heard "creep" applied to one? They have emotionally-based relationships and men never do, I guess. The video is quite clear about that--listen to the gentle tone. They also never recidivate, he assures us--we'll just pretend that Mary LeTourneau didn't exist, then. Social media is the worst source of information and analysis that has ever been invented with faux experts everywhere.
WOW! 33 years in prison at 24. And she pled guilty. The COURT is sending a strong message of denunciation, punishment and deterrence.

I believe many of these abusers have a history of childhood abuse within their own lives, however, that isn't to say that makes it right for them to then take their own abuse and use that as an excuse/reason to abuse others. This is why an in-depth background check on teachers should be performed and their own traumas should 100% be taken into context. We cannot allow the traumatized to traumatize others and unfortunately we are seeing that it is all too common for those with trauma to then go forward and abuse others.
Please note, I am not stating that all who have trauma are going to become abusers but this should be considered and looked into instead of merely disregarded as hearsay.

My sister did the same thing while a teacher in a small New England city in the early 1980s. Unlike this woman, though, my sister was quietly fired and stripped of her teaching certificate. She was neither held accountable nor punished properly and fled the state shortly thereafter. I didn’t find out the truth for many years. Her life is, to this day, an utter disaster and I do not speak to her.

I think the way they approach children is different. Most of them know the children in real life first and groom them in person. The women are in positions of power. The guys Chris Hansen went after, were online first and unknown by the "victims" to the perps, so they could use decoys and set up stings to catch them. I'm a therapist and unfortunately, I've heard of many cases of boys being abused by women. It's mostly teachers, friends of the mom, neighbors, mothers of their friends/girlfriends, aunts, etc.

They are divorced. Once one of the parents brought the allegations against her, she was put on leave, then she resigned. He filed for divorce a few days later. I don't think their marriage lasted 2 months.

In forensic psychology, men and women are wired differently. Boys show aggression, usually girls do not..(that sort of thing). For girls, when they’re attracted to younger people like this it’s because they have arrested development. They hadn’t matured in their brains. Which is why they feel like it’s a relationship. Men have the nature to want to spread their seed. They will look younger and younger to have the best experience. It is disgusting and should not be tolerated. The victims of these predators suffer the consequences from the abusers own messed up disorders. People need to heal themselves before getting into any relationships.

It's important to understand the psychology behind this mentality.

I think the problem with what the psychologist is describing is that it's somewhat vague and not really addressing the pathology behind a person like that.
It’s not that I don’t understand what psychologists do. Female predators’ crimes seem to be framed very differently than males. That is what I find troublesome.

A case like this being adjudicated in such a short times means she accepted a plea deal, she knew the sentence before stepping into court.
This is insane!! So many beautiful women with husbands abusing young boys!! I am wondering if these women had such a great time in high school with their dating and all the fun and adventure of being a teen with everything new and exciting that, these women in some way are trying to re-live all that by "dating" these young boys? Based on the Iowa Department of Corrections website, her tentative discharge date/supervised discharge date is 03/13/39, 15 years after she was committed. Iowa requires you serve 50% of sentences for forcible felonies, she'll serve less than that for her crimes. In the end, she still gets a break, no man would serve less than half his time for the crimes she committed.

I don’t understand the “compartmentalization” theory. How does someone go from “I’m not doing anything wrong. We’re in love” to “I have to act like I’m not doing anything wrong and act like I’m not in love with him”. If she’s thinking that way, she totally knows what’s right and what’s wrong. If she truly believed they were in love and it was all above board, she’d never have the thought that she had to hide it. Basically, it’s not an excuse, nor is it a valid reason. She’s sick, period!

The adult will always be at fault. As an adult, you should know right from wrong. A child isn't able to consent. Usually in these situations, the child is experiencing issues at home, or school, which causes them to be rebellious. The child might think they "want" it, but as they grow older, and their frontal lobe develops, they will realize how wrong the situation truly was. It's disgusting to put blame on the child too, because they're just children. They were groomed, and made to believe that behavior was ok from the adult.

They made an example out of her to send a warning to all these teachers because of all the female teachers who have been caught doing this lately. All the backlash stating that men who do the same thing get sent away for decades whereas females are more or less given a slap on the wrist.
