Remember, this isn’t a rise in female teachers being predators. This is a rise in victims coming forward or other adults spotting the patterns. As a culture, we’re finally seeing young men as the vulnerable kids they are and not patting them on the back for being taken advantage of by an adult who was supposed to protect them.

Ehh..it's all in context (male HS teacher)...a quick hug is fine with students occasionally, as long as it's appropriate. What I mean by that is if I have a rapport with my students and they want a hug, it's ok.

Because we no longer put a decent amount of money in the education system. No one wants to go to school for years just to be paid 40k a year unless there is something wrong with them. This actually happens way more than people think. I remember when I was in high school I had heard that a male teacher was hooking up with some of the female students, and at the time I didn't know that was illegal so I didn't say anything about it. I just sort of thought that's what happens. And when I was in elementary school I had heard that the coach would go into the boy's locker room and smack them in the rear (these were 14 year olds). I didn't know that was unusual either, so I never said anything. Stuff like this happens all the times at schools and it doesn't get reported.

I'm wondering if some of these teachers don't plan on doing this but fall into it once they're around all of the kids. So a pre-hiring psych evaluation might not help in a lot of situations.

Alot of the female teachers, who get jobs in the schools, don't seem to make the connection that they've crossed over into adulthood. They seem to think that they're still 16, so "is it really so wrong?"
So true. A friend of mine teaches in a high school, so they gave two substitute teachers an opportunity to teach art and film. The film teacher has zero classroom management, so she just lets the students walk in and out. Hang out on their cell phone, visitors from other classrooms and my friend who is the lead and the art department told her this is not after school. You can't just have students walking around doing whatever they want to do. Her response was, I want them the students to have fun and that my friend is too strict with the students. Students. Her students are learning nothing because they do whatever they want to do and she's busy trying to be their friend. Go figure.

I find this so gross! When I was in high school, within four years we had five teachers get fired, and some were arrested. Don't know what it was about my school, but there were so many teachers messing around with students. It's more common than you think.
