- A former teacher in Texas has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 13-year-old student. For three years, Marka Bodine sent him explicit photos, videos and texts. According to police, Bodine, 32, and the student had sex in her classroom and in her car. However, there's controversy over what some say is an incredibly light sentence. Bodine was sentenced to only 60 days, although prosecutors asked for a maximum 40-year prison term.
If a male teacher did this he’d be (rightly) in jail right now.
Why do women get such light sentences for raping children? She has fundamentally changed who that child was going to be. What a disgrace.
I agree. That is disgusting. This crime goes unreported. Teenagers, preteens and boys, hardly ever come forward for the stigma. Now, when one does, women hardly get any real punishment.

My nephew turned 9 this year. This upcoming year he'll be 10. It makes me sick to my stomach to even think a teacher would sexually prey on my nephew. This case is soo disturbing. Disgusting.

I know a man who sexually abused his stepdaughter starting at age 11, did it for 3 years, got 1.5 years, out in 8 months.

We have no idea how that sentence was decided, but I'd like to know. It really doesn't make logical sense that she would be given a light sentence because the judge commits the same types of crimes. A judge would likely think they can get away with a lot due to their status, not because someone else doesn't get a harsh sentence.

I've been sexually abused by my grandmother's sister... I was 5 or 6 years old then,she was 50/55 years old .The abuse lasted until I was 13... she died in a car accident and I honestly don't feel sorry. I never told my parents or my grandmother. I'm 26 now, and I'm still stuck with those bad memories.
Luckily my wife is here and she is amazing,she helped me so much to get where I am, I can't thank her enough, soon we will become parents to a girl.

Justice needs to be reformed. It shouldn’t matter what race, ethnicity, gender, sex, sexual orientation, etc. the perpetrator is, nor should that matter to the victim. I’ve heard men and little boys being victims of such a heinous crime as well. The justice system is literally a circus.
In the UK judges have guidelines on what sentences can be passed but in the U.S it appears to be a case of pot luck. Get a judge who is having a bad day your screwed or one in good mood your fine as appeared to be the case here

When I went to school we were in different grade levels each year. Moving from 1st to 2nd to 3rd on up to 12. Never once did I ever have the same teacher two years in a row.

Back when I was in elementary school, my 3rd grade accelerated math teacher went back to teaching 4th grade accelerated math classes the year after and I basically had her two years in a row without repeating a grade. It's not only that, being manipulative is a common trait under the sexual predator umbrella. The teacher manipulating him into returning just to be preyed on again wouldn't be the first time that it has happened . So, please, do your research before replying such a thing again.

Maybe we should start giving fair sentences to both men and women if we want equality. There's no way any man would get away with a 60 day sentence. And if it's not about equality, then we should start treating sexual (or any) abuse for the disgusting crime it truly is and many people downplay when the abuser is a woman

A lot of people still have the stupid mentality that this sort of abuse doesn't affect boys (of course it does) and they actually enjoy an older woman wanting them. Hopefully they change the documents to say "years" instead of "days". Nobody in their right mind could give a sentence like that. She betrayed the trust of many, many people, and destroyed the innocence of someone who relied on her. Horrific.
This is an outrage. I had a babysitter inappropriately touch me as a kid several times and it affects me to this day. Because of her, i have had screwy relationships.
A teacher is supposed to be a trusted person. One for young people to go to for help and guidance. The fact that people take these roles and abuse them is disgusting.

I really think the kid actually enjoyed it. He didn't tell his parents because he did not want it to stop! He went home everyday, and he could've easily said something. He was not ABUSED, and kept it going for his own enjoyment.

Raymond Frolander for instance, also abused his victim for 3 years the same way as her, and got sentenced to 25 years in prison along with lifetime probation. But as for her, she only got 60 days? This is unjust.

60 days? What happened to equality? Had a man done this he’d be in for life, or a good 40+ years plus on a list. I’m speechless. But not one bit surprised. Very sad.
3 years of rape, sexting and sexual abuse starting from when he was 10-11 and she gets 30 days. Teachers have the highest rate of sexual abuse of children out of any other profession. We keep seeing stories over and over of young pretty female teachers abusing very young children and either getting a extremely light sentence or getting biased headlines EG: "teacher forces students into sex" or "Student had secret relationship with teacher" instead of calling it rape or grooming. Some people in the comments will either say he enjoyed it (despite the mother and the victim saying they aren't pleased with the results of the sentencing) or attempt to deflect from the issue by saying this happens to all rapists despite gender. "For instance, the Australian Bureau of Statistics found that 63.3% of men who were sentenced in higher courts received a penalty of imprisonment, compared to just 46.7% of women." (Ask me if you want the link) Women across ALL types of charges get less severe sentencing compared to men which is why we have to call out obvious bias. This is a gender issue not a "rapist" issue.
