The NXV BIR200 Isolator is the perfect solution when adding a secondary battery to your audio system. It allows the second battery to be fully dedicated to the sound system and does not create a voltage drop like common isolators tend to do. The isolator will draw less than 1 amp when your vehicle is powered on. All of this will ensure that your battery will be isolated with confidence!

Can you do a video showing how to add a power cap or supercap to that WRX build? It'll be between the trunk battery and amp, but do you need to fuse it again somewhere or just run from battery to cap to amp?

Battery isolator makes a lot of sense. It's not good for a battery to dump lots of charge for a long period of time when the alternator is off, it's ok for starting the car and some light music, but when cranking the tunes with the car off it's much better to shorten the life (long and short term) of the 2nd battery compared to your cranking battery. You don't want to get stuck out in the middle of no where just because you were listening to music :)

The fuse is to protect the wire/cable so it should be placed near the source (alternator or main battery). The isolator sense the main battery voltage to determine when to turn on the charging of the secondary battery, hence the isolator should be placed close to the main battery.

I'm doing a dual battery set up today.
I was told by an audio company that the isolator should be closer to the primary battery for it to work correctly
I've noticed your isolator is way back in the trunk.
I showed them this video and they said with any dual battery system isolators need to be closest to the primary battery.

All an isolator does is separate two batteries when the coil isn't energized. Location of that isolator between those two points does not matter. I fix more installs from shops than I'd like to admit.

Hey Provo Beast Audi Install, thanks for the informative video. Nice clean looking install.
I believe you said you use 1 gauge wire. Could you tell me what size fuse you like to use? Do you size the fuse to the load, or do you size the wire gauge to the load and size the fuse to the max recommended current?......or what has worked for you?
    Thanks!

    • @jamesfair9751
      @jamesfair9751 4 года назад +2

The fuse needs to be matched to the maximum amperage the wire can carry. I use 250 amp on my 0/1 awg I’m pretty sure it can carry closer to 300 amps but my amp never pulls more than 250 so that is adequate for me.

After the shop installed a Stinger Isolator for me (recommended by them), I would play my music loud while driving the car. But the next time I turn on the car, code P0603 would come on. Never had the code the week before the isolator was put in. Do you think an isolator would mess with the cars voltage? I most likely will have this removed. Batteries and Alternator reads proper Voltage. Maybe the issue has something to do with the isolator on how it is wired to the ignition?

First off thanks for the video and the install looks good. Now, are these more of a fail safe than a necessity? I am probably going to do it because it seems like it’s the right way, but is it’s sole purpose to protect the main battery from being drawn down by the secondary battery? That should only happen if you play music with the car off, if the vehicle sits for an extended period of time, or if there is a short or parasitic draw of some sort. Correct me if I am wrong.

  • @Michael_00001

I have a positive wire directly from the alternator to the isolator and the other positive connection on the isolator going to the secondary battery. Will this work? Or do I have to connect the starter battery positive to one isolator post and then connect the other post on the isolator to the secondary positive? My secondary battery is not charging.

Is the ground coming from the 2nd battery’s post going all the way back up to the starter battery or just grounded to the chassis somewhere in the trunk. You didn’t really specify where you have the black 1/0 going is why I ask because I am getting the 14.4 - 14.6 when I first start my car, but it has been draining (depending on how long I drive on each particular trip/how long I let the car sit in between trips) anywhere from 14.6 to 13.6. I am just wondering if it would drain more if I had drove longer on the trip that had it down to 13.6? & why is it draining when I’m driving at all? Is this normal? Mind you, I still have stock alternator & have yet to do my big 3 upgrade. I’m sure that if I upgrade my alternator from the stock 150 amp to a 350 amp ($278.99 not bad right?) or if I could avoid spending the $ on the alternator & fix this another way, hence my initial question. If anyone knows why this is happening, please let me know. I’ve been searching the internet since I got this thing installed, trying to figure out what exactly is going on. I did see one thing that said the isolator will try to “even out” the voltage on both batteries, but if both of them are starting at 14.6 then what does it need to even out?! You know? Any & all correspondence would be greatly appreciated. I probably just need to go on & cop that H/O alternator, right? HEELLPPP lol

OK. HELP!! Question. Could I use one of these, say in the 500A configuration as a straight up solenoid or relay to switch my starting battery on and off? I have a 2000 Lincoln Navigator with the air suspension and other things that run off that battery, that within a couple few weeks, if I don't pull the ground, will drain my battery flat. Unfortunately, I don't always know if and when, so it happens far too often. If I had a switch that killed the battery, it would be far less frequent as it would be less of a hassle to do. But, would say this in 500A work as a continuous operation with 100% of my battery amperage for the vehicle flowing through it during the times I operate it? Just don't know enough.....

But i still get a draw when my truck ia sitting because the wire coming from my stock battery to the alt i guess drains my lithium a little. Would i use the isolater between the stock charging wire from my stock battery to the alt or between my alt to the rear batterys? And since i have multiple runs from my alt to the rear batterys would i need more then 1 isolater? Hopeing i can jst connect a isolater between the stock battery and alt and then the truck is off the isolater will stop the discharging between my stock battery and alt thus hopeing my lithiums will stay at there higher charge rate.

Hello, so I took my 17 Sierra to a local shop where I had a full sound system installed with a second battery and isolator. I noticed the shop connected my amp power wired to the primary. There was no power going from my second battery to my amps. The primary and secondary battery were connected to each other. So I decided to disconnect the power amp wire from my primary and connect it to my second battery. I would listen to my music with the vehicle off but I noticed the 4 channel amp would cut off. I took the vehicle back to the shop and told them what I noticed. Their response was that they connected the power wire from my amps to the primary because of “feed back” in other words the reason why my 4 channel amp would cut off. So I’m a little lost here. Why am I getting feed back? Why would they connect it to the primary battery and not the second battery? Any help would be very appreciative. Thanks in advance.

i think i need extra battery completely isolated from the car battery because i play music for hours with the engine off, we drink and dance on the road side so we gotta save fuel.
    what is your opinion

Do I need an isolator if I’m using a yellow top for primary and a xs power D3400 for secondary? I’ve heard some people says it’s really not necessary but I’m curious.

I hooked up a second battery and I'm not getting 14v out of it. It stays around 13v. It should read 14v plus, could I have a bad ground?

Did you run an extra fuse from you’re main battery to the isolator
