I've had my locs for nearly 10 years and they're down to my butt. I really want to take them out but my scared because I can't really do my own hair lol
I'm glad these videos are helpful for you. I think I watched like 10 loc removal videos and then re-watched my favorite videos just to make sure I was doing it right.
Okay so.. I was wondering why one loc was taking me 4-7 hours to pull out. I guess its bc I use only the metal tip of a rat tail comb. No combing until the whole loc has been carefully pulled apart. My loose hair is down to my hips thanks to that but it's taking almost 2 months to finish.
You have patience of Steel ! I started 5 months ago and tried to comb them out and redo them ,hell nah Let’s just say I never finished so I just twisted backup the few I took out and chilled. Way too much work if I do want them out I’ll just cut my hair off next time. Blessings Queen
@@Anoldaccount988 you know .. I think I leaning to sister locks or small Locs too.. I just cut all my hair off again to start over when it grows out enough. Wish me luck 🍀 😁
My 2 cents. First don't spray your locs dunk them in water so that the inside is soaking wet. Use Cowboy Magic detangler and shine. Let it sit in your hair for a few minutes. I personally used toothpicks and kabob skewers to unravel my locs. I'm still working on them. I have had them 17 years with at least 5 shoulder length chops once they grew to waist length. I have 109 locs. at first it took over an hour but once I found a routine it went to 45 minutes.
I'm taking out my locs now I did them at the spur of the moment not really taking time to figure out what type of locks I wanted I think I'll go loose natural for a while then start my sister locs.
@@msmoe7429 it's been nice. Of course more maintenance but my hair has tripled in size, but doesnt fro out anymore like in my profile pic,but is starting to"lay down"
I'm not entirely sure if it helped but the way I maintained my locs was by not retwisting all the time, staying on a somewhat scheduled wash cycle of about every 6 weeks, and oiling my scalp.
Omg... my locs are thick (I started them this size so I could do box braids over) worst idea ever... and I started taking down the one in the front because I noticed there was a lot of lent ....I’m so stressed...I’ve watched so many videos on RUclips on how to cleanse? what to do so there’s not so much buildup? I still can’t get this fucking lent out hair..what brought you to the decision for you to be like yep it’s time...
Thank you for watching! The lent use to bother me sooo much. I would start picking at it to the point that I was basically unraveling my loc. When I felt like my hair was really dirty, I would use apple cider vinegar (ACV) to rinse my hair which removed alot of dirt but I'm not sure if it took care of the build up. Maybe if I had a consistent routine with the ACV rinse it would have taken care of the build up but I would only do the rinse, maybe 3-4 times a year. I think it was a mix of me wanting to try something different with my hair and the fact that it felt like my hair was weakening my edges b/c they were heavy.
This not a great idea if you're thinking that you'd have so much growth now you just want this long luscious head of hair. You have to understand that even though your locs have gotten long, all of the hair that you have naturally shed over the years is caught in your locs so if you think you're going to have a nice thick full head of hair when you take your locks out beware because you will lose all of that hair that you shed, that's no longer connected to your scalp
i feel this is pointless.. the hair is damaged and thinned at the end and will need to be cut significantly. i feel like just big chopping and saving the locs if you ever want reattach them.
Thank you for sharing your opinion but this video is meant to let people know that they have options. After I took out my locs, I did trim my ends but overall my hair is still healthy and full. Regardless of if you cut off your locs or comb it out, good hair care should always be practiced.

Get your mom or someone to help you comb them out that's if you dont wanna cut them off your hair will be very long tho.🙂😂
If you don't mind, why do you want to comb them out? I have had mine for 10years and I want mine thicker and longer.
Same here and I don’t know how to do natural hair so I’m scared
This is reflective on the black community teaching self care and how to take care of black hair..

Lol. Nothing wrong with finding a path that works for you.
Same! Five months for me too 😂 I want sister locs now or small traditionals but/ or with even parts this time around. I’m doing like 4-5 locs a day.

I used a brush for horses and cowboy magic. It took a week. Now I'm free! *You can get both from a tractor supply store
Have mine for 37 years I’m thinking about cutting them but I might try this
Wow! 37 years is a long time. I bet you have some great memories with your locs.

It took about 6 weeks. I was doing about 3 locs a day and each loc took about an hour.

No, I just used room temp water.

Try Dawn dish soap it works for buildup

So rough ripping through the hair
Dont use a comb honey its ripping your hair out!

I took my locks down yesterday and my hair is still healthy in spite of all of the dead hair! I got to keep 14 inches of hair because of this method!
