Funt Fact: The word "banana" originated from an Arabic word “banan” which means finger. Each individual banana is called a finger so a bunch of bananas is called a hand
All Joey and Garnt had to say to Connor about 13 Sentinels is that one of the main characters hates America. He would have left the room immediately to play it guaranteed.
I can relate so much about the MMO conversation, can't be bothered to grind my way through games at my age and with my commitments, which is exactly why FF14 is perfect imo! You can enjoy it like you would enjoy an offline Final Fantasy game, focus solely on the story and get a lot out of it, no grinding is necessary for that. As a long time fan of the series I think it it's the entry with the best story of all. I definitely recommend to play it casually without touching any of the grindy stuff in it like the Endgame bosses
Same. Not really interested in other MMOs anymore because FF has everything they do while also respecting my time. I mean the game literally convinced me to play other games instead of it because they had a raid and I thought to myself - wow the music and atmosphere is amazing they should make a whole game about this. In my defense I was skipping cutscenes so I didn't realize it was literally a Nier raid.
I'm Ecuadorian. I've tried almost every major type of banana that exists. Also, the mythical banana Connor speaks of still exists in certain parts of the world, even some resistant strains have been created. And I have tasted it, it's shockingly close to the candy flavor only a less sweet and artificial feeling. I was actually surprised when I heard someone tell me that the candy didn't taste like actual bananas, I explained to them that they do but only a very specific type that is not normally sold in markets then I learned of the whole plague and such.
@tevenz The problem with the sweeter bananas is that there was an illness that affected most of the crops of them because they had larger seeds, so a new banana was created that is less sweet but doesn't have seeds thus making it immune to the problem with the old ones. The "extinct" banana had people eating it who would know what the flavor was to replicate it.
The reason why Demon Slayer is that popular among all the generations is that it's easy to understand and appeals to old generations taking place in Taisho era. Even my 62 yo dad who had never watched typical anime loves Demon Slayer. I recommended him to watch Aot but he said it was too difficult to understand. He regularly wears Kimono and lives in a traditional Japanese style house, and there are many Japanese people like him.
I thought of the same reason; it just makes sense for the older generations in Japan to identify more with a show that actually focusses so much on tradition.
I think Demon slayers appeal in japan has to do with the fact thats its a "historical" piece that is deep rooted in references to japanese history and culture while still be a modern battle series with beautiful art. Plus, I think it came out in the right time with COVID forcing everyone to stay home same thing happened to the new animal crossing where it is the 1st or 2nd highest selling switch game.
yeah but i think the advertisment team also did a good job on promoting it plus i think ufotable (the animation studio ) also played a part as well i mean its one of the best animations studio out there along with kyo ani and mad house
@@rovite359 that's impossible to adapt into a good anime, because they would need every single artist in japan to make it an adaptation which could be considered in the same level with the manga. Also the elemental aspect of demon slayer help the fights to be more appealing to the children. And you can't make characters in vagabond scream their technique name because the fights are realistic.
yeah I remember being like 5'2 in my middle school the shortest kid the class and kept thinking about my height 24/7 was really insecure now I am 5'7 still short but I am not nearly as much as insecure as I used to be
I personally want to thank trash taste for recommending 13 sentinels. The recommendation made me immediately buy it. After only playing two hours I am already in love with where this game is going.
I can only guess, the reason why Demon Slayer is so popular in Japan is because the series navigate around family theme revolving Japanese values and culture. Each character has their own family problem fleshed out; most likely it's relatable to Japanese people, so it makes them easier to relate to different characters. The plot format is simple, so it's easy to digest. The story was set during Taisho Era, not some different world unrelated to Japan. That's why I think the manga sale is so high; not only it appeal to the shounen fans, it also appeals to much boarder audience. DS's popularity skyrocketed when the anime aired because Ufotable managed to deliver great, consistent animation quality while also being faithful to the manga (and perhaps it elevates it). It makes the series much easier to consume and appreciate. That is my guess of why DS is so popular in Japan.
Yeah, I recommend my family to watch it, we watched it together, we hyped for every new episodes, untill it feels awkward when suddenly daki appears with her bikini and my mom decides it was fine to have some horny in our livingroom.
3:35 Garnt clearly does not understand the troubles of being the last born child in a big family. I'm 16 and taller than my two sisters but every time we're in a car I have to uncomfortably sit in the middle little seat with my knees flying up because my sisters are older than me.
The most logical thing to do is to have the most differently shaped person in the middle. Having one big person on the side and two small people in the middle and other side is weird. You end up really close to one person and there's a bunch of space on the other side. Most back seats have a hump in the middle so you have to sit right in the middle, there's no way to evenly divide the space unless the odd one out is in the middle.
I believe part of the issue with the previous banana was that they were all clones of the original banana, so when the virus hit there was no genetic variation to help the strain survive.
That banana still exists! There are still niches locally owned grower in Central and South America that sells them. You'll have to find one of these farmer to see if they can ship one to you. Check your location's import laws and try your luck with the condition of said banana after shipping and handling.
I started searching for this legendary banana and for my surprise almost all of this type of banana (Gros Michel) was imported from my country (Costa Rica) and other neighbor countries here. All my family (and everyone) prefers the bananas that we plant vs the ones that we import or export and I didn't know why. For my surprise, our "Banano Criollo" is the "Mythical Banana"😂, now I understand why everyone prefers that one
The information people share about that banana is so all over the place that almost no one actually knows what they're talking about or which version to believe. I've heard multiple versions of it being completely extinct, I've heard stuff like how there was one single solitary location left on the planet growing them, and a bunch of things in between. The average person just doesn't care enough to actually look into it, is the thing. I know I don't, I don't even like bananas or the artificial flavoring either. But yeah, people just pick their flavor of interesting tidbit up somewhere and then run with it. There's a bunch of things like that, where any real information is just bobbing around in a sea of random "fun facts"
@@danielzumbado6564 suave mae, el banano criollo es el banano mítico? Bueno, es entendible el afán, tienen mucho más sabor que los gigantes que se exportan
Demon slayer is this weird thing that you could call a family friendly show despite there being blood and some dark elements. Going to the ends of the world to save your friend that you barely talked with isn't quite as relatable as trying your best to save your sister, especially when she is your last living relative. That's the catchy part I feel. But of course it is ufotable that catapulted it into the spotlight.
Almost sure it's Ufotable, they turned a pretty good manga into an anime adaptation far more than what series of its manga usually get. They make a cool fight into something truely epic.
You should give whoever's talking off camera their own proper microphone for those rare parts that they jump in because it's nice to hear when it's just little added things here and there, I do appreciate the fact they're not strictly made to be silent
They did that but it feels so weird since they are not supposed to be in the conversation so they dont anymore. But those "pop up" with no mic is actually a good bit imo (and many other ig)
Okay to piggyback off of this, if they could sort out the subtitles, (both in general and for off camera people) it would really help hard of hearing people like me I swear once they said they pay for them?? But they’re wrong a lot of the time and it’s frustrating when the quietest parts aren’t subtitled
For someone who's from the Philippines, I have eaten at least 5 variants of banana and I can say that they vary by a lot when it comes to taste. I'd say Red Banana (Morado) is probably on the top of the tier list.
Made in Abyss: Dawn of the Deep Soul desperately needs a TV version because there are so many fans out there that aren't even aware of that the film even exists, and its canon viewing for S2 later this year. The pandemic and the lack of legal access to it really killed any hope of it getting any hype, which is such a shame because the Idofront Arc is the series' magnum opus.
Made in abyss is the best anime of all times for me but i don't think idofront arc is the series magnum opus cause the next arc is masterpiece gem even more than the movie
Regarding 1:07:09 Id like to just add my personal experience as someone working in a movie theater when the demon slayer movie came out. That movie was basically the first actually popular movie that came out when we had re-opened after quarantine because of course all the weebs wanted to see it. The thing is though is that it wasn't just weebs going to see it. Many MANY Asian families had gone to see that movie completely varying in age from 4 year olds going with their mom and dads to I shit u not 80 year old Asian couples going to see it. It completely blew my god damn mind. I of course knew how popular demon slayer was especially in Asian countries but It really put into perspective how popular it really was.
As someone who's loved dinosaurs for as long as I could remember, it warms my heart to hear the boys talk about them at all, even if it is debating which dinosaur would be the best to eat. Trash Taste always finds a way to bring their trash food takes to whatever they talk about, truly impressive.
@@sweedy6647 Funny you should mention that because bringing 3D printing up was my first thought. If it becomes feasibly possible to "print" a car (economically or otherwise) I bet you these same people wouldn't think twice to do so.
50:05 that scene was also missing in the manga, It wasn't drawn at all, and yeah they could still animate It regardless, but they already had time issues so adding LEVI SCENES that weren't even there in the beginning would be too much
@@kabelan9660 SPOILER I believe he's referring to chapter 113 or episode 14 of the Final Season part 1. The anime never shows Levi killing his allies, because it was never shown in the manga to begin with. I don't think there is any other notable scene where Levi kills titans, that Connor was talking about.

Joey's perdiction is most likely right cause the whole AOT movie Idea has been leaked for a while. And I firmly beleive they cannot finish the show if this last cour of the season is 12 or 16 episodes, coming from a manga reader lol. This was once again another awesome episode of the podcast love how far you guys have come with the show keep it up!
You're confusing the word leak with rumored. It's been rumored for a while. There's been absolutely no leak thus far. Doesn't mean your prediction is wrong.
There was a prediction of episode titles and it's been correct, now seeing the pacing it is very likely to have a movie. But surprised Joey only at episode 2, it gets another level crazy from episode 3.
The thing about Kimetsu no Yaiba is that "Good and Kind" is very well written. Most animes make "Good and Kind" like a disadvantage in every situation but Tanjiro specifically is written to be very kind but has no hesitation in decapitating a demon even though he did felt sympathy toward them. Jump King reminds me of Flappy Bird.
Demon Slayer is a solid shonen brought to life by wonderful animation. Whilst not exceptionally creative and detailed (common issue with weekly series), it has a core group of sympathetic characters that keeps me invested. All in all, good stuff.
Its this that people fail to realize why its good. It doesn't need to be complex/complicated its enjoyable the way it is, and emotionally resonant with its core audience.
Exactly the reason demon slayer caters to majority of people (of all ages) is because not all people enjoy complex stories , there are animes for that , the way demon slayer is flexible to everyone is it aces up in things that it is trying to convey and numbers for it shows it worked.
I'm probably gonna get flamed, but the characters feel like they just come and go, and I really wish it took more time to flesh out the characters. They're cool, don't get me wrong, but Uzui appears in 2 episodes on S1, and in this season, he's one of the main characters, and then fucks off and reappears guarding the Young Master. I'm at least happy they keep showing Rengoku after death, showing that he isn't just a stepping stone, that he actually left big impressions on each and every character.
@@ajax3807 I won't flame you for that. As much as I like fast paced shonen storytelling Demon Slayer has this bad habit of introducing a shit ton of characters very fast and not getting to any of them in explicit detail until near the endpoints of an arc. Their designs and overall personalities carry them on an entertainment level from their intro on but you don't really get to the heart of each one until really late in an arc, and you never know if that's the last time you'll see that character or not. The biggest issue with that type of pacing rears its head in the final arc and it lands with varying degrees of success for some and not for others.
@@TheCreed1217 i getchu, man. I really wanna like Shinobu, but she's quite boring. If she was more of a psychopath or someone incredibly broken because of PTSD, it would've been more interesting. Also, yeah designs are amazing.
When Garnt talked about the SEA banana, my head perked up to see if it's the kind i was thinking of, and then picture and i smiled those bananas are terrifyingly good, super dense, flavor pack a punch. I hate banana, but they are the one type of banana that i'd be happy to eat any day
another one for the clip lol. I like to joke and think its just how japan just end up syncronising people and workforces. That or some mech synchronisation thing. They are just too compatible.
With Demon Slayer. I believe Zenitsu gets is popular when he’s in his “sleeping state.” He’s a much more bearable character especially in the entertainment district arc and forward on in the series.
It's both how insane he is when sleeping and his dedication to honing one thing despite being a failure across the board. As Kiri said, the ''underdog'' factor of performing against the odds by sheer training.
Nah I love him both asleep and awake. He adds an element in the show where everyone’s like quiet I guess and then there’s Zenitsu just crying and I love it. It’s entertaining
I don't understand how people find him unironically annoying. At first I thought the same but he's so annoying & over the top that it becomes charming & entertaining to me. I love him
It got me back into the anime but only for that arc, I had read the manga and since I gave up on the series when it shifted back to the usual drudgery so I waited for the villain arc to be animated just to enjoy at least that much. I'm only doing some drawings here and there for commissions. My last one after usagi what's her face in a bikini is going to be vigilante Deku and his foot out the front of Bakuguo's torso
The pacing of the manga honestly kills it for me. It would do way better as a monthly manga with longer chapters. The weekly chapters are way too short for the kind of story Horikoshi wants to write.
I noticed that around 15:20 they took the more faint audio picked up from Connor when he's bent over and automatically raised the volume. That's nice cuz I normally have to raise the volume myself whenever they move away from the mic, and then when someone else talks or they go back my ears get blasted. So thanks for that
I can't be the only one that was excited for them to talk abt anime, and the first thing that I hear when I start this video is "iSN't iT sAD ThAt We nEVeR gOt tO tAsTE a dInOSaUr" 😂😂😂
So... the extinct banana - called Gros Michel - are still grown in small batches. Possibly in Malaysia and Thailand. The next Trash Taste special - "Banana Quest"
They are so expensive to import/buy in the US but they definitely taste better than a cavendish banana. The artificial flavor definitely captures the taste profile of the gros michel compared to the cavendish. Not quite the same though.
@@LiveType They grow this in my country and I can tell you that the artificial banana flavour does not taste like a gros michel banana (aka pisang embun here) at all. @@chromeaces Interesting. It was definitely closer than the bananas I'm used to eating when I tried one way back. No idea where it originally came from. Folks trying it recently on RUclips seem to share a similar opinion as you so my experience seems to be an anomaly.

When I studied in Kyoto a few years back the 2 bars we went to the most where those really small hidden places. One in a tiny apartment (the door didn’t even have a sign) and the other was hidden in a back alley close to a bicycle parking. XD They were both very active on social media and made a great effort to get to know their guests, so we loved going back to those places. One of them even arranged annual bbq parties where all their regulars got invited.

I remember in Grant's video he said that the 2010's didn't have a "classic" yet, and now we have Demon slayer and AoT which can be considered classics because of how they impacted the community. Not saying they're the best shows, but they can be considered classics now because of what they did

The best part of FFXIV is the community. It takes a lot of patience to play through the base story, so the only people that survive tend to be patient as hell. It's crazy how nice your random teammates are in pick-up dungeons groups.
I really wonder if Joey or Garnt have played the Zero Escape (9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors, Virtue's Last Reward, and Zero Time Dilemma) at all because hearing them talk about 13 Sentinels makes me think they'd really like those plots, which I think are batshit crazy but also written so phenomenally well. 13 Sentinels I remember only hearing about just ahead of its localization announcement when Masahiro Sakurai (of Kirby and Smash Bros fame) and Yoko Taro (of Drakengard and NieR fame) both were praising it as the best story they'd ever seen in games. And if Yoko Taro is saying that about a game, then that game is a must play
I don't buy manga in general, but I bought the Demon Slayer manga. And its 100% because of Ufotable. It doesn't really need that much analysis. The fact that its a simple story means anybody can get into it. Ufotable got me into the Fate series as well, but because that story is so much more complicated, its not as universal as Demon Slayer.
Yeah. The entertainment district made so many people drop it in the manga but everyone is glued to the screen when ufotable flexed its God teir animation. Blows my mind how production can influence a series this much.
@@shirouyasha69 ufotable has always been the reason for Demon Slayer's success. Look at all the hype scenes in the manga after watching the anime - they're so bland.

As a Norwegian, I went out in the UK in like 2004, where I was taken to a pub in Leamington on Spa or something, it was surprisingly cozy, not a fancy place or anything but the people were really nice. It turned out a darts club or something were having an event there, and had even brought snacks, and they were sharing it with me, so I got to taste scotch eggs for the first time, and they were having a raffle, I'd never head that word before so I asked what it was when they asked if I wanted to buy a raffle, they kindly explained and asked where I was from, then as they were picking the winner they specifically mentioned "let's hope the Norwegian bloke wins!" I liked it and it's a fond memory. Then they took me to a bar afterwards, where one of the English guys got sick as he saw me having a couple shots of Jaegermaster, and despite my warning as he found he liked it, took a bunch of shots of it... So I stayed outside the bar with him as he was throwing up, and this stereotype English guy came up to me, like 5 feet tall, and 5 feet wide, most of it upper body muscle and tiny feet, completely bald and all aggression, like a cartoon character. Meanwhile I'm 19, 6'0" tall and trying to grow a beard, wearing a sleeveless shirt in what the folks over there called snow, kinda sticking out a little over there, the guy was trying to start shit but got thrown off by my accent, seemed confused and started asking me about where I'm from and such. Learning I was Norwegian he was suddenly my best friend, wrapping one of those huge gorilla arms around me, pointing at me with the other while shouting at the people out on town that night about how I'm from Norway, turned out to be a nice guy, was an RAF pilot or something. Again it kinda stuck with me, as while kinda weird, it was memorable, and how I learned the folks in the UK is very similar to Norwegians on the weekend, drunk, fighting each other, then have one night stands.

I have to agree with Connor, sometimes you love something so much that it hurts to think that there might be a better version of it, that you can never have. Truly a sad day for all the fellow monke's out there.
It's not the first time in the podcast where Connor knows he's scientifically correct (with the bananas this time) and Joey and Garnt passionately argue against him anyway. I can relate with the frustration.
Well Connor’s thing was that he only liked the artificial flavor is because he missed out on the og flavor. I don’t think that’s justifiable enough to like something They didn’t disagree wih Connor on the scientific stuff like how the banana exists (they kinda did but then back tracked after hearing from Ashley). As someone who’s played FFXIV since a little after the re-release, it’s practically designed to be played casually (though if you really want to play it hardcore, you can). It’s an RPG first and an MMO second. The developers actively encourage the players to take breaks when they need it and there’s little to no FOMO. The story is beautiful and worth playing for that alone. Many people actively subscribe during expansion launches and patches, then drop the game entirely during the in between periods of time.

1:10:33 Used to talk about it when the first season came out. I think that Demon Slayers biggest aspect is the family thing, so its a good family show already. Now the other thing is that it has the perfect mix between what most guys like about anime and what most girls like about anime, fight scenes are hype af with crazy animation while the main characters are intentionally cute and do cute stuff when not fighting or even when fighting. It just is so not on any part of the feminine or masculine spectrum or at least plays around with it a lot, so everyone, no matter how you were raised your gender or whatever, will find it wholesome and a good watch. I think this part is most clearly seen in episode 19 when in the middle of the biggest fight in the show you get an emotionally breaking flashback of Tanjiros family thats just so cute and wholesome with angelic music, then goes right back to the fight. Demon Slayer is the one show that does flashbacks right tbh. Edit: The show not taking a side on the spectrum is also part of the appeal, makes it more of a complete image when its themes are not confined

No Alex, don't tempt the boys
FFXIV restored my love of the Final Fantasy franchise ever since my disappointment in FFXIII and FFXV.
Wait really? Damn I want to try it D:
I barely had time to play at all this week. And the good thing is, when I jump back into it, I won't have fallen behind anyone.
Can u then tell us where do they still exist?
@tevenz The problem with the sweeter bananas is that there was an illness that affected most of the crops of them because they had larger seeds, so a new banana was created that is less sweet but doesn't have seeds thus making it immune to the problem with the old ones. The "extinct" banana had people eating it who would know what the flavor was to replicate it.

Hi fellow Ecuadorian trash taste consumers, should we form a local trash taste gang?

The struggle man everytime
make it difficult for them, sleep on them lmao
The most logical thing to do is to have the most differently shaped person in the middle. Having one big person on the side and two small people in the middle and other side is weird. You end up really close to one person and there's a bunch of space on the other side. Most back seats have a hump in the middle so you have to sit right in the middle, there's no way to evenly divide the space unless the odd one out is in the middle.
an unspoken rule in my family is that the youngest sits in the middle

Going to the ends of the world to save your friend that you barely talked with isn't quite as relatable as trying your best to save your sister, especially when she is your last living relative. That's the catchy part I feel.

@@lancevance6346 Cool, but we do.

@@shirouyasha69 Really? That was my favourite arc in the manga.
@@shirouyasha69 ufotable has always been the reason for Demon Slayer's success. Look at all the hype scenes in the manga after watching the anime - they're so bland.
@@gregsvoice5628 you probably enjoyed it. I was dying from that pacing.
@@shirouyasha69 I do think it's a problem in the storyline after the Mugen Train arc that the arcs that are left are few but long with very long battles. So I can understand that if you were reading it week to week at the time it could be a bit frustrating.
As a Norwegian, I went out in the UK in like 2004, where I was taken to a pub in Leamington on Spa or something, it was surprisingly cozy, not a fancy place or anything but the people were really nice.
It turned out a darts club or something were having an event there, and had even brought snacks, and they were sharing it with me, so I got to taste scotch eggs for the first time, and they were having a raffle, I'd never head that word before so I asked what it was when they asked if I wanted to buy a raffle, they kindly explained and asked where I was from, then as they were picking the winner they specifically mentioned "let's hope the Norwegian bloke wins!"
I liked it and it's a fond memory.
As a Manga Reader, Joey's Attack on Titan movie take is gona age like a fine wine.

Ff14 is really amazing..the story is just so damn good.
Such a well rounded episode. The boys talked about Anime and Games, and Connor and Garnt argued about food at the end.
1:20:57 I'm almost certain Joey is right Connor. At the current pacing of the anime and with part 2 being 12 episodes the anime will end around chapter 131 leaving 8 chapters to be adapted
Yeah, you are most likely right. Man I hate it when they do stuff like that. That movie will be everywhere in Japan, but in Europe it will be hard to find a screening...

When it comes to Zenitsu, I think he’s one of the comic relief characters but he is also super overpowered in some situations which is probably why so many people love him as a character.
Comic relief is supposed to be funny though. Zenitsu, and even Inosuke sometimes just kinda feels like they're supposed to be in some shitty self aware isekai rather than DS
He can be soo annoying, but he's not useless and that's what I appreciate.
I can already tell this is gonna be an interesting episode

I have to agree with Connor, sometimes you love something so much that it hurts to think that there might be a better version of it, that you can never have. Truly a sad day for all the fellow monke's out there.
Thank you Joey and Garnt for discussing about 13 sentinels, I just finished it and it was an amazing game alright
2:10:00 the bananas we've lost sounds like a real cool and poetic novel title.
I don’t think that’s justifiable enough to like something
They didn’t disagree wih Connor on the scientific stuff like how the banana exists (they kinda did but then back tracked after hearing from Ashley).
Also read a comment saying that the banana still exists just very rare so he wasn’t fully scientifically correct
@@lettuce1626 Liking something doesn't require any justifications.
Connor said that the banana flavor tastes fake because it doesn't taste the same as the bananas we have eaten, which is true. Modern bananas do include the "fake" banana flavor molecules but just in very small quantities and it's balanced out by other flavor molecules, which makes it taste wrong.
It's true that the old strain of bananas is not completely extinct, but they are also not commercially available.
@@Blirre yeah I’m fine with Connor liking whatever he wants. I thought this argument wasn’t as strong
Reading your 2nd block, it sounds misleading. Clarifications. Connor said he liked the artificial flavor because it supposedly tastes like the og banana and feels like he missed out on it
For anime with cultural impact, dbz with Latin America was pretty big. Super even had crowds watching in large projectors for the finale, some videos floating around online too.

It’s very possible to play the game as a regular JRPG. Joey and Grant should play it. Monke might get nicknamed ‘Quinn’ ;3
"There's no better feeling than playing mmo with a bunch of mates" i felt that so hard... the players i loved raiding with stopped playing not so recently and i haven't raided since...

As a fellow short person. I absolutely hate the middle seat. There's no leg room at all cause of the middle console. Thing is, I'm one of the better drivers and good at directions so I'm usually at the front lol

2:11:00 - Garnt and Joey in sync moment of the podcast
Except during the season 2. The flashbacks I think are too excessive now
