      Ballycraigy had half the pallets of the Larne one . Ballycraigy stacked a few small single pallets on top to give the illusion of height. 50 mins Craigyhill was alight at top before the fire spread down as it was solid from bottom to the top!

      @@ulsterpatriot1420 agreed Ballycraigy was the better built tidy no lorry straps needed. And it was 9 metres taller as Airborne imagery NI pointed out. Larne was indeed huge fire too some money worth of pallets in both fires. What will next year bring lol 😂

      In this particular Case it's just to burn some Irish Flags. Decorating a Bonfire with Flags and torching it is supposed to be more acceptable than just burning the Flags right away. But building large Bonfires for less controversial Reasons is a Tradition in many Places. It's done in Switzerland and Southern Germany around Carnival and in Northern Germany around Easter, in both Cases "to scare away Winter Ghosts". In Scandinavia, Bonfires are built for Mid Summer Night on June 23, especially around the Arctic Circle to celebrate the Midnight Sun.

    This is truly embarrassing. The fact that in this day in age they continue to cause damage to the environment and waste tax payers money on the cleanup is ridiculous. That money could be better sourced, going into tackling the mental health crisis in Northern Ireland at the minute.

      @@Badbhoys you’re right. I’ve just found out that someone fell to their death from one in larne. Last year a teenage boy was badly burned, houses had to be evacuated due to fire damage as well. What more will it take to stop this, one life lost is one too many.
      I really can’t see why they are allowed to continue.

      @@Badbhoys that’s what I’ve said along, it’s just a massive drain on resources. I think they police and council are afraid, last time they tried to manage one they got attacked. I’m not saying everyone at the bonfires would do that, but I think that’s what holds the police back. They try and turn a blind eye to avoid riots.
      It’s truly ridiculous these things are still legal, especially when we all are so conscious of environmental damage.

The Gaels were invaders to these shores as were the Celts Then in 1171, Pope Adrian IV , under the Donation of Constantine, gave the island of Ireland to the rampant papist Anglo Norman King Henry II . In return Henry extracted a tax known as Peter's pence from every Irish household, payable to Rome! Henry was also tasked with force converting all the Irish inhabitants to Popery. Up until then the majority were pagan or Culdee Christians who didn't bow the knee to Rome ie those who found Christianity from St Patrick.

    I'm just an American of Irish Catholic descent. I was impressed with the bonfire and glad nobody was hurt when it collapsed. I'm sure I don't know all the history, but I don't see how all the hateful comments help anything.
