She will always be the “Swiss Miss” to me!
Swiss miss like the hot chocolate lol
She is one of the best doubles player of all time. In singles, before power game era, she is great too
A graceful player with a warm smile that lights up even the onlookers! Thanks for the video!!
She was disliked by many of her piers. She talked badly about fellow players including Graff.
I used to hit with Martina and other pros at Hopman/Saddlebrook Resort back in 1998-2001. I see a lot of conjecture and guesses on her. She was wearing her body down from extreme training well before she was at the top when she was 16. She experienced normal life and she needed it. The constant grind got to her. She wanted to go enjoy life. That comeback was just to show she could do it. She never put in the grind that she did pre-2002. Her last comeback was about enjoying the sport.
yeah got to the aus open final in 2006, i think her first slam back from retirement? lost to kim clijsters. she definitely could still play. she was only 26
I met her in an elevator in a hotel in Tokyo. I didn’t know who she was. She was very gracious when I confused her with “that actress from that pirate movie”. She was very pretty and very nice.
she was the face of tennis in mid to late 90s when tennis is about to break through commercial success. she carried the torch of Stefanie Graff when stef starts to decline. tennis was big back in her era, pete sampras, micheal chang and andre aggassi were the big names back then.

Love watching her play tennis. Gd that she has a life after retirement.
She did retire because of foot issues. If I am not. mistaken she was even going to sue her shoe manufacturer for destroying her foot. Also while she had a good all around game, she started losing to the Williams` power game. She would serve and watch the ball zip back past her. Or be unable to return their serve. The crowd in that French open final against Graf was especially hard on her. She was in a good position but broke down with the constant boos from the crowd. A testament to how a player like Djokovic manages to ignore such boos and still play well. She was great to watch as she won on being smart and outplaying the opposition.
Blaming a shoe. Sounds like an NBA player
@@surfdocer103 shoe technology was really not that good back then...
Djokovic is 36 years old and 23 GS wins behind him. Nothing the crowd does bother him now! He even interacts with the haters and takes pleasant from the exchange.😊
Why dint she get test the shoes??? It's not like they won't give time for her testing??? And if am not wrong she lost the case.
@@milkboy234 incorrect! Sponsors don't really do that and back then shoe tech was nothing near to what it's like now... You're so clueless 🤦🏻♂️
Excellent player. Great work 👍
My favorite tennis player❤🎉❤
Always so beautiful
Hingis is one of the best tennis players of all time. She won all the Slams, and was a smart and canny player, so great to watch. I think Graf is the best of all time but Hingis is right up there, not far behind.
My vote for the best of all time goes to Serena. In fact, I'd say Steffi wouldn't have won as many titles if Monica Seles hadn't been stabbed?
@@James-db6do I once used to think Serena was the best but now that many others have caught up to her power game, I no longer think so. Also she could not equal the 24 Slams won by Margaret Court (previously Smith), still the most Slams won by either women or men. Of course, winning the most Slams does not make you the best but it was a big goal of Serena's and she failed to achieve it. I don't think Graf cared about that.
She did not win all Slams, she never won the French Open.
@@christian_globalimages yes she did. She won the French Open doubles twice in 1997 and 1999, and the French Open mixed doubles in 2016.
Very good possibility the William sisters were born male, if so that would not help any of the female tennis players… Once you know you have been lied to about the very earth you walk upon all bets are off… earth is unequivocally a level immovable plane less earthquakes in a closed system… you will remember this comment for the rest of your life… peace…
She was pretty.
she was a magical tennis player. But somehow it all went south for her. A shame.
Super Martina tu étais ma préférée
I loved her
Next time try and get the name right. If you have to rely on a computer for your audio, your audio will always suck.
An absolutely beautiful brilliant savvy all time great. She won a lot and expected to win a lot more maybe just maybe to the point of arrogance but there’s no denying she was Great.
I believe it was the power game of the Williams sisters that Hingis could not cope with both physically or mentally.
She had beaten many times the Williams sisters
@@jesusavecilla9167only in their first encounters
Don't forget Lindsey Davenport.
No, it was Steffi Graf!
M big fan of williams sisters specifically Serena but Hingis was tough for Williams. But she had foot injury bz of her tennis shooes and mentally, she separated from her mother who was her coach too. N that’s it. When she did come back women tennis was totally changed.
Not to mention that she was one of the most beautiful young women in tennis or in any sport! Also, in 1999 it wasn't losing to Steffi that brought her to tears but the cruel hostility of the crowd that acted like a pack of animals. To behave as they did towards a young woman was a disgrace. The French crowd in particular are known by their cowardly conduct. They had to be rescued in two world wars, so they continue to pick on young women to this day. Perhaps it makes them feel tough?
What a load of rubbish you write.
Martina was steamrolling-- up 1st set and leading 4-1 in the 2nd. A shot was called against her, and in protest, she walked over to Steffi's side of the court to point out the mark--which is against the rules. She was defiant and bratty, while Graff remained typically stoic. The crowd showed their displeasure for her, as they applauded and demonstrated support for Steffi, Martina's lead dissipated as she lost focus, and her opponent rallied back from behind to win. It would have been Hingis's 1st an only French Open Title, but the undoing was entirely her fault. She left the court and fell sobbing uncontrollably into her Mother's arms who she unceremoniously fired as her coach.
@@JH-zr8lo You're the brat!
A great player!
Unfortunately, the commentary regarding the first retirement is wrong. Hingis was very good at a young age and got used to be number 1. Then in the late 90's two new stars her age appeared but starting years later than Hingis. First she was winning with them, then they started overpowering and beating her. They were named Venus and Serena Williams. Hingis could not reconcile herself with losing, so she retired, when she was still 10:9 with Venus (0:1 in 2002) and only 6:7 with Serena (0:3 in 2002). The official explanation was of course different. But retiring at mature age of 22 was quite unusual.
A theory ... She could beat Walliamses
Why not retire ?
False, Hingis could cope with their power, it was the ankle injuries that were the problem
Saw her at Eastbourne in 1999 and 2005 playing doubles with Novotna took a few pics of her
elle était une joueuse gracieuse et trés talentueuse
If power had not become such a factor in women’s tennis; I believe Hingis would have been the BEST female player of her era Bar NONE!
Nope, Hingis could cope with the power, in fact it made her game more effective. The issue was her recurring ankle injury which ultimately resulted in major surgery
@@bengray5013 nope
@@darrylsanders6056 you're clueless
She went in to Co-star in Thor.
Why do you say her name in a weird way?????
4:06 not Danielle Hantucova, her famous double partner was Anna Kournikova, despite never winning a title was ranked in the top 10 in doubles
Kournikova was in the photo but it was Hantuchova that Hingis partnered with early on in her second career
She created her own demise too arrogant and everyone picked up their games and just overwhelmed her all court game. Too bad she couldn't handle the power game.
@@CurtisSmith-vr5ow again this is just wrong!!!
ALWAYS THE SWISS MISS, CLASSY ALL THE WAY
Her mother pushed her too much. She was too young for all that pressure.I hope she is happily married. She was my favourite player. .
It was always my view, back then and still today, that Hingis "retired" because she realized she couldn't beat the Williams sisters, Venus and Serena. She basically ran away.
No, she returned red due to repetitive ankle injuries that required surgery.
Well, she won 25 grand slam titles by the time she retired in 2017. All her early titles were in singles - and later she became an all time great doubles player. Not too shabby.
You heard wrong.. She won 25 million dollars... She won 5 career Singles Grand slams. The other slams etc. She won was in Doubles and mixed doubles... But not 25 Grand slams.. Even Serena Williams tried Her best to surpass Courts 24 Grandslams.. But failed...
@@manoalex6575 No, I was exactly correct. I wrote that she won 25 grand slam titles, not 25 singles titles. She won 20 doubles titles, and 5 singles, hence my reference to her being an all time great doubles player. And, you do agree, overall it wasn't too shabby a career record?
Martina couldn’t keep up with Serena’s hard hitting power game and serves. Serena shortened her career.
I didn't know 2006 and 2007 made 3 years... I must b bad in mathematics.
Yeah...why isn't she still winning at what?? 40??
The Williams were too powerful
le qwipe. Yeah.
Plz make video on cheater Jenifer capriati
I don't consider here one of the greats. She was in gap between Monica gone and Steffi injury plagued before the William sisters came along. Then there is that famous break down at the French in 1999.
Karma happened. She was arrogant and full of herself.
The Williams sisters basically ended her short run.
Most beautiful girl in the world xxxxx ❤😊
Yes!! Stunningly beautiful!!
There is always someone else that's prettier more beautiful more everything
We make our own choices....for whatever reason.....mine is
@steffanjennyburrup5801
Can only imagine attending a match live where Hingis and Kournikova were doubles partners on the court. Two of the most incredibly gorgeous females on the planet with enormous talent. Would be like watching a Givenchy runway show on a tennis court.
Wow yeah brill 🤣👍
She blew lines of coke off Radek Stepanek's hard shaft
The beautiful Swiss Miss, who to the delight of millions always had her nipples on display. Once she went we inherited a beached Whale.
how come you are not mentioning her positive drug test for coke and her retiring the next day, i smell a cover up
I didn't realize cocaine ws a PED? Cover up? get over your self.
It is mentioned at 3:40….
I'd have to smell her to confirm what you alledge.
She should have stayed away from the coke. She wasn’t going to keep up with the Williams sisters and Graf with that lifestyle.
😂
Nice try, but Hingis is a stain on the game. She constantly bad-mouthed the Williams sisters and the breakdown at the French Open was evidence of a young woman who felt entitled to win and when that didn't happen she folded and couldn't cope. Talented, yes. Good for the sport, not at all. A brat who couldn't stand the heat of the kitchen.
Now.....we have Mirra !
Acting like a petulant child 😂
And lets face it Serena was all class,! or have we forgotten maybe ?.
She retire because she can't accept that she lost by a black girl called williams she is veru disrespecting that made her career such a miss
I and many people lost respect to her after her ridiculous melt down at 1999 French Open, she was humiliated and couldn't take it and had no respect for Steffi Graff. After loosing the plot at the french open, then came the rising of the Venus and she was more hungry and determined than Steffi, hence she won 22 slams. Hingis couldn't keep up and got injured then faded away like a fart in the wind and retired.
The standard of women tennis is too low.
She is the best example of tennis players who come win 4 to five grand slam n then disappear that’s why do not compare any new comer who win 1 grand slam to serena William
