  • This evening in a statement regarding the loss of Bristow S-92 LN-OIJ the company released this statement "Bristow Group Inc. confirmed today that one of its search and rescue helicopters, registration LN-OIJ, was involved in an accident at about 19:40 CET today approximately nine nautical miles west of Bergen, Norway. The aircraft, which is contracted to a civilian customer, was conducting a training exercise at the time of the accident.
There were six people onboard, including the two pilots. All six people have been recovered and have been transported or are en route to a hospital in Bergen.
The Company is in the process of collecting pertinent information and will provide updates as appropriate."
Thankfully all the crew have been rescued and taken to hospital.
This S-92 previously flew for HM Coastguard here in the UK as G-MCGC until 2023 when it was transferred over to Norway and re-registered. A helicopter that I've filmed countless times over the years at the airport and during training exercises with the RNLI and Coastguard.
    Big thanks to

Very sad news this morning, sadly one of those rescued succumbed to their injuries in Bergen. Very sad news this morning after the news that all 6 were rescued last night. Thoughts with the individuals family and friends 😞

30yrs ago I used to work on the Bristow doing daily flights to rigs. As a female it was an unusual sight at those times but I remember doing my ‘ditch training’ before taking the post n never in a million years thought I would ever need it. Sorry to learn about the fatality 😪xxx

It is a vital bit of training which can save lives. Such a shame for the family of the individual involved. 😢

Just read that one person succumbed to their injuries, ugh...not the news we were hoping for after initially seeing all 6 were rescued. May they rest in peace.

The Irish Coastguard suffered one of the first fatal crashes if not the first of an S-92.
Am I the only one who thinks a number of S-92 crashes into the sea after encountering a terrestrial formation at sea is unusual?

Did the aircraft sink I wonder , or did the floatation systems work ... ? Rest in Peace to the crewman who died, one hour in the North Atlantic in Winter is frightening to contemplate ..
