Backpacking in Shawnee National Forest: Garden of the Gods

We got out for a couple nights hiking and camping on the trails that integrate through the Garden of the Gods Wilderness area in the Shawnee National Forest. The weather was unseasonably warm, hitting temps in the low 80's in the day, and dropping into the 40's at night. Unfortunately this meant my pack was a little heavier than I would've liked, so we did not hike as far or as fast as we meant to, but it was still a fun camping experience. We also got some storms passing through on Saturday night that made sleeping an easy job with the sound of rain on my tarp.

Yeeeaaaahhhh, buddy! Loved that rain and werewolf howling. Pretty sure that final scene solidified our RUclips brotherhood for life. Now how's about some rafting...

Yeah, the terrain in that area of GOG Wilderness is pretty brutal. Hiked Knights of the Golden Circle with some of the River to River Trail Society on one of their Winter hikes. I was glad I didn't have a full pack, but it was a lot of fun & a even more laughs too! Freaking amazing morning there after the rain!

The Ozarks are at the tail end off the Appalachias with southern illinois hills between but its all the same range. The oldest mountains in the world.
