Fly Fishing from a Kayak for Panfish - Lake Wintergreen, West Rock State Park, Connecticut July 2024
Finally got a chance to get out and do one of my favorite things - fly fishing for panfish from my kayak! This was filmed on Lake Wintergreen in West Rock State Park, located near where I now live in New Haven, Connecticut. I used four rods in this video, two 5wts and two 8wts, each weight outfitted with a floating line and a sink tip line to cover various depths. The kayak I use is the Lifetime Teton 100 Angler kayak, fitted with inflatable outriggers for standing stability, an Anchor Wizard, and horizontal rod holders from YakGadget which are compatible with fly rods, and also hold my paddle.
The panfish were a big fan of the purple sparkling wooly bugger (size 6) fished on the 5wt sink ...

Bike Ride Down East Rock Park (Testing my GoPro)
Просмотров 712 месяца назад
This is a fun bike ride down from the top of East Rock Park in New Haven, CT. Kind of a pointless video, but I recently picked up a new GoPro Hero 12 and wanted to give it a test run in the heat. And since I went through all of that effort, I figured I might as well slap together a quick video edit and post it lol. I plan to use it for lots of fishing and some summer backpacking this year. My third time hiking the Porkies with my good friends Mark, Joe, Colin, and Tim. It was nice this time around to be sleeping in a hammock instead of on the ground, and the Porkies is a great place to do that! Backpacking in Shawnee National Forest: Garden of the Gods

We got out for a couple nights hiking and camping on the trails that integrate through the Garden of the Gods Wilderness area in the Shawnee National Forest. The weather was unseasonably warm, hitting temps in the low 80's in the day, and dropping into the 40's at night. Unfortunately this meant my pack was a little heavier than I would've liked, so we did not hike as far or as fast as we meant...

This was our way to get out and about while still socially distancing from the crowds.

How To Lay Diagonally With the ENO Ember 2 Underquilt
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.4 года назад
UPDATE: I've tested this method outside a couple nights. I'll just say this, it works but if you lay on your side or curl up into a ball, it will create some slack in the UQ, so you kind of have to lay flat the whole night. If this method doesn't work then you'll have to consider tightening your hammock hang. Are you using the ENO Ember 2 Underquilt for hammock camping? If so then, like me, you...

    • @EscapingTheCity
      @EscapingTheCity 3 месяца назад

      Unfortunately you cannot bring a wagon into the Garden of the Gods Wilderness. That first site is in one of the seven designated protected wilderness areas of the national forest and you cannot bring any kind of vehicle, motorized or non-motorized, into the wilderness areas. I would recommend backpacking your gear in. It's not a long hike, takes maybe 20 minutes to get there from the car. The whole Indian Point loop is only about 1.5 miles. Even if you were allowed to bring a wagon, it would be pretty difficult to get over ledges and fallen trees.

    Okay. We hiked there today--the observation tower down to the River Ridge Pack Trail, all the way to the East Camp (that's a hell of a long hill up to the Camp Sites!), then down the trail to the sign post for the cemetery. You did it in the Fall when maybe leaves covered the trail to the cemetery, as there is a clear trail, marked with yellow markers on the trees, very easy to see. But, the trail goes up a ridge of round pebble rocks for about 50 yards that is at least a 60 degree incline! Scary as Hell even with digging in with trekking poles. And once we high-5'd our survival for making it back down without dying, we swore we would NEVER do THAT again! The cemetery was pretty overgrown, and not as easy to see as in your video. Needs lots of care. Very old graves. But, hey....at 65 and 62 yrs old, we did it!

    • @EscapingTheCity
      @EscapingTheCity 3 года назад

      Wow, congrats!! That's pretty great that you found it. We walked out to the main road from east camp and walked about a quarter mile up the road to the entrance to the cemetery, a bit easier than the route you took. So I'm glad you found the alternate route! This park is a good place to get a workout. I usually backpack the loop once or twice a year, it's nice to have a trail like this in Illinois.
