- Inspired by a recent trip to some historic breweries in Milwaukee, this easy quick-bread is terrific served warm with butter! Goes great with any meal, and if there's any left over, try toasting it - fantastic!
1 - 12oz can/bottle beer (room temperature)
4 1/4 cups self-rising flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp salt
2 eggs - slightly beaten
1 can chopped jalapeno peppers
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, garlic powder, and salt together. Then add beer, cheese, eggs and peppers. Combine until just mixed and there is no dry spots left in batter. Let batter rest for five minutes.
Grease to loaf pans. Divide batter in half put in each loaf pan.
Bake at 375 degrees for 45 minutes or until bread tests done (a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean). Remove bread from pans and allow to cool on rack. Serve warm with butter.
I will try this recipe without the jalapeño- looks delicious 😋
Hi Kathleen - this will still be delicious without the peppers. Thanks!
That looks really good, and easy. On my to make list! I use beer in my chili. I'm with your sister, I don't like beer to drink, but don't have a problem cooking with it. Best to 2:00 you and sis! ❤😊
Hi Sharon! Hope you try the bread! I've heard of using beer in chili but have not tried it yet. Thanks!
I love jalapeños, I love cheddar, and I really love beer! So this recipe is a must try! Thanks!😊
Hi Judy - safe to say you'll love this bread! Thanks!
I've had deep-fried food that was dredged in beer batter. The batter puffs up big, and it's extra crunchy.
Delicious!

Hi Brenda - beer batter is a great way to use beer in cooking. Thanks!
At least Maryann is honest! Beer is an amazing cooking ingredient!
I make a homemade BBQ sauce that uses equal parts beer, brown sugar and ketchup.
You mix the three ingredients together in a sauce pan over med heat.
Keep a close eye on it as will start to foam up once it begins to boil… quickly remove it from the heat or you will have a sticky mess! At a certain temperature, the beer starts a chemical reaction with the brown sugar and begins to foam like crazy!
Once it gets passed the foaming stage, you can simmer it on med low for 10 minutes or longer.
These three ingredients are just the base for this sauce. Feel free to add whatever ingredients you think will enhance the flavor. Fresh minced garlic or garlic powder. Chopped onion or onion powder. Red chili flakes, liquid smoke for a smoky flavor, maybe some mustard for a little tang. Ginger, curry powder, cumin, cloves… the possibilities are endless once you decide what direction you want to go. You could even try different types of beer as well. From a stout to an IPA… let your imagination run wild!
It’s excellent on meatloaf or appetizer meatballs. Chicken wings would work wonderfully.
I find it to be a very unique and delicious sauce. Take care!
Hi Greg! Thanks so much for sharing your sauce recipe - it sounds delicious and I love how many directions you can take it. But the base sauce sounds really good and another good way to use beer as an ingredient! It will be fun to experiment with it!
I love the sound of this.
I make a traditional Irish stew that has Guiness stout in the recipe,. I also have a recipe for Guiness stout chocolate cupcakes, both recipes are delicious!
Both of those recipes sound great! Thanks!
Sounds good to me too!!! 😆That bread looks DELICIOUS!!!
Thanks, Ma Pooh! It's really good!
Kevin, you have beautiful cursive handwriting. Recently I was shocked when a young, 22 year old coworker came to me and said she couldn’t read the note I left for her because she “can’t read script writing”. I was even more shocked when she said she was never taught it in school! It’s actually very sad; shame on our US educational system.
Look him up on always analog
Some can't read analog clocks, among other things, either. It's a disservice & shameful.
It really is a sad side effect of the High Tech evolution…smh
Same here, was shocked when my granddaughter told me they don't have cursive writing in school. Luckily, they moved, her new school has it.
@@sharonhines9698 I don't know what some of these kids are going to do when it comes to a document that says "print here" & "sign here". Print twice?🤔 It's really a disservice to them.
I’m not a beer fan either, but love beer bread! Do you have a good recipe for cheddar beer soup?
Thanks! I've never made cheddar beer soup, but I'll look for a recipe!
That sounds yummy!! I use beer in batter for frying, such as beer battered chicken or beer battered fish and etc. Thanks for the recipe! I'll make some just as soon as I can use the oven again. This dang endless summer is putting a damper on baking here in my Texas kitchen!!
Hi Nancy! Hope you're going to get a break from the crazy heat!! I can see why you wouldn't want to turn that oven on! Thanks!
Looks like a bread I would like, and I’m not really a bread eater. Perfect on a cold day with a stew or soup. Love the beer glass! Thanks Kevin! Thanks MaryAnn!
Hi Donna - a very tasty bread and it does go well with soup or stew. Thanks!
Looks delicious. Think I would put in chopped artichoke hearts instead of hot peppers. BTW how much time is spent dusting your collection?
Hi PLK - that would be a fine substitute. I dust twice a year - each dusting takes a week. Thanks!
BEER Batter for fish n chips obviously
Yes - I think beer makes for a great batter. Thanks!
Like Maryann(e), I'm not a fan of beer. I don't like to drink buttermilk either, but it makes the most delectable pancakes & breads. So, I totally understand how the end product can be yummy. This bread has a lot of savory components, that I'm sure made it taste wonderful!
Hi curlyqstooge! You really don't taste the beer in the bread, but you do get the peppers and the cheese so it is a tasty one! Thanks!
Beef stew with Guinness or any dark beer.
Thanks, Jane! Beef and Guinness are a good match!
I cook my corned beef and cabbage with beer.
Hi Lisa - thanks for sharing! That's a great idea!
Beer battered cod (for fish & chips).
A classic way to use beer! Thanks, James!
WOW the name of that stove is a mouthful! The bread looks interesting…lol…like MaryAnne, one of its ingredients makes it questionable …the Jalapeños stopped me 🤢…..I’ll give you a like anyway 😂😂😂😂
Thanks, Ladythyme! You can always leave out the peppers...but not the beer!
Is that can of jalapenos a four ounce can? As always, I simply love your videos. Family and loved ones in the kitchen together are some of my fondest memories. Y'all always make me smile, thank you. @13:48... C'mon Kevin, what happened to "mo' buttah, mo' bettah"? 😉
Hi CC - yes, it was a 4oz can. I know I forgot to say it, but I hope the big swipe of butter I put on that bread got the message across! LOL! Thanks!
For myself I don't have a problem with beer, but I don't like jalapenos or cheddar cheese. That's just me though.
Hi Scooter! You can easily leave out the peppers and the cheese, or use a different cheese. Thanks!
Sometimes the ingredient to prevent cheese from sticking is cellulose aka sawdust. 😮
, , , or adding a little parmesan or pecorino.
I always grate my own
Hi Susan! Wow - on some cheese, you can see the white powder on the shreds that is used to keep it from sticking. Thanks!
@@cavalcadeoffood
Yes. Absolutely. I try and not buy that.
That looks so yummy!!!
It really is good - hope you try it!
Your sister doesn’t like beer and I don’t like jalapeños! I would leave them out. 🍞
You could leave the pepper out, but you need the beer for the recipe to work. Thanks!
....and a good 'ol fashioned Pilsner glass! As did my Gram and my Mom, I use beer when a baked a ham. A glug around the roaster along with a glug of ginger ale and a glug of orange juice... so good. Jalapeno cheddar sounds amazing. I think that caramelized onion and perhaps gouda would be tasty as well. There is a beer bread recipe "out there" that calls for baking the bread and drizzling 3 Tbsp. of melted butter over the bread then continue backing for 10 minutes... it adds that je ne sais quoi! Try it next time. As always, great vid. Thanks for sharing. ~kendra in Ohio
Hi Kendra! I love the idea of using beer when baking a ham! I will try that next time! Yes, you could make this an onion cheese bread and it would be terrific! Thanks so much!
Kevin, you are so fortunate to have your sister doing such a phenomenal job as a videographer! I'd love to have a videographer... maybe I could convince a loved one at some point lol!
I do not like beer either, but this bread does look hearty and flavorful. I might show this to a loved one who does enjoy beer! 😊
Silly question, because I'm not an expert cook or baker, but does the alcohol from the beer "evaporate" when cooking this bread, and is it safe to drive after consuming the bread?
Aside from all of the above, I have a confession: when I read the title of this video, my mind immediately jumped to a memory of a friend of mine who had an experience of... "chemical warfare" when passing wind after consuming a similar combination of food and beer!!! 😂🤣😆😅🤣 I hope this bread doesn't produce such results!!!
Hi Fawn - you don't really taste the beer in the bread, but the beer helps the give the bread rise and body. Most often, when cooking with any kind of alcohol, the alcohol cooks out of the dish and lust leaves behind the flavor of the liquid. After eating quite a bit of this bread I can tell you that there was no chemical reaction! LOL! Thanks!
Good show 👍
Thanks, Charles!
The English seem to want warm beer! Nice recipe. Thanks!
Hi Tim! I wonder if certain beers taste better when they are not ice cold? Thanks!
That’s my husband’s favorite beer 😛❤
Mine, too! Thanks, Connie!
When you were standing there with a slice and a beer, what came to mind was thin sliced summer sausage on top of the bread.
Hi Cyril! Oh, wouldn't that be good!!
Classic Beef and beer / Ale / Guinness real casserole, cooked for hours on low x
Thanks, Lauren. I can see how wonderful Guinness would be with beef!
Sure looks delicious! Thanks for the recipe.
You're welcome!
I'm with Marianne on the beer thing. The only thing I have ever used beer for is slug bait. And that was from an unopened beer bottle that was thrown into my yard from some passing drunk driver. All that being said, your bread looks delicious. And as always, love the Pyrex bowl.
Thanks, Jonathan! I've heard about using beer to attract slugs. That Pyrex bowl has been used a thousand times - so nice to have on hand.
What might be good is a very dark beer like a stout!!!!
Hi Nanette - that would add a nice hearty flavor!
I put beer in chili and bbq sauce
Thanks, Connie!
Sounds great to me ❤
It is - hope you give it a try!
Oh Kevin, one day you will try real Cheddar,
It is never orange, its pale yellow.
Pale yellow cheddar is really really good! I like the smoked version of it so much! 😊
From Englands West Country x
Hi Lauren! I had the pleasure of having real cheddar cheese on a trip to the UK some years ago - it was incredible! And not orange! Orange cheese is very much an American thing - they add beta carotene for some reason to give it the color. Thanks!
What the heck! How did I miss this episode?
Beer dip served with pretzels. Delicious! My grandma made beer bread and served it with ratatouille. So good❤😊
Hi Meredith Lynn - I'll bet grandma's beer bread and ratatouille was delicious - what a great combination!
Kevin, since I forgot to mention it in your last video about the Milwaukee Brewery, I will share it here. My parents always used Pabst beer in fish fry & hush puppies. Never knew that it was part of Milwaukee. There was another recipe that my father made once, a Beef & Beer stew. Think it was an old German recipe? And finally, we have poured beer directly on a steak while grilling on charcoal. Your recipe has been added to my list. Thank you, Mary Ann, for handling the videography. Hello to Ralph & Wally. Great episode, Kevin. God Bless!
Thanks, Sallie! I love hearing how people use beer in different ways for cooking. The Pabst brewery in Milwaukee is a real landmark. Hope you give this bread a try!
This week I ran across a new use for beer. Some people mix Bloody Mary's with beer instead of vodka. When you use beer it becomes a "Bloody Barry." 😅
Hi russbear! LOL - I've never heard of that variation!
Do you have chicken and dumplings on your channel? This sounds delicious, think I’ll make it.
Hi - I've done a variation on chicken and dumplings called "chicken and pastry" here's the link: ruclips.net/video/iDzlbCFfz6Q/видео.htmlsi=QodPVnmN3MJ_GEDY
Kevin. I make Fish and Chips with Guinness Beer Batter 👍🏻❤️
Hi AL - thanks for letting me know. I'll bet that Guinness makes for a wonderful batter!
And, lest I fail to mention it, I love Marianne for her honesty! She gave me the biggest smile 😃
Hi Duane - sister girl will always tell it like it is!
I want to make this, and then try making some into garlic toast!
This would make great garlic toast!
When we were kids, my dad made beer -- Old Milwaukee or Black Label -- and apple pancakes. They were amazing 😋❤ And if you boys ever need a hand with moving a stove, I'm just a hop, skip and a jump down the road.
Thanks, Duane! Those beer and apple pancakes sound wonderful! Thanks for the offer to help move stoves!
For all the fun videos and great recipes, it's the least I could do 😊
How about some jar pimento or roasted red peppers.
That would be nice in this bread! Thanks Gary!
Is it safe to drive after eating this bread?
LOL! Yes, but don't eat more than two slices! The alcohol bakes out, so it's no problem!
Excellent camera & co-hosting by Mary Ann!
Kevin, that bread looks amazing -- and what a boon the magic happens in a single mixing bowl.
Thanks, Albert! The bread really is a snap to mix and make!
