I found out about these instruments two days ago and thought finally, an instrument that will make me feel like I am some kind of mischievous forest spirit! I bought a Clarke Original today, and I am less mischievous spirit and more 'child with recorder'. But I will get there. Thank you for this video.

So not going to lie, I've been learning Tin Whistle for maybe 5 to 6 months, and I still come here just as a refresher course. Never hurts to relearn the basics.
Hi, I am not sure if you will see this message, but I decided to buy a tin whistle for myself (aged 73) but also for my Granddaughter to learn how to play. We have both mastered the intro and practising daily (via video lol) however, we want to move on now, but I can’t find any follow up clips, most jump into tabs etc. My question is, have you done any follow up clips as it will help greatly… Many thanks.. Mel and Mila x PS. Both whistles are in “D”
I got a tin whistle years ago on a trip to Ireland and have been meaning to learn it. Now that I am stuck at home I am finally watching your great videos!
Good God, no bloody wonder I could never get anything decent out of my tin whistle. I was using my fingertips, not the pads, and I was gripping far too tight. Confidence tentatively restored.
I play guitar and learned to play recorder poorly about 30 years ago...but was always taken away by the sound of, and the traditional melodies I heard played on tin whistles. Thanks for your splendid instruction...just right for a newbie!
My grandfather used to play the tin whistle and I bought one and have been trying to teach myself. Your instruction is so clear and enjoyable to follow, I subscribed immediately. Looking forward to future lessons. Thank you.
I just got a tin whistle as a birthday gift and this was the best possible tutorial to get started! And your way of explaining it was adorable and wholesome. Thank you!
Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I hope you find some of my other videos useful too. Feel free to ask if you have any questions, I'll try my best to help 😊
This is super helpful because where I live, there are no teachers that could teach me in real life. So I’ll be teaching myself after this, but this was soooo helpful!!
This was incredibly helpful! I've had a tinwhistle for probably a year now and rarely ever touched it because I had no clue what I was doing, I'm a guitarist, and have never played anything like this. When I couldn't immediately figure it out, I gave up. Thanks so much for the help.
My flute arrived today, and after finishing your first two lessons, I'm already playing songs. Thank you very much! I'm heading over to Patreon to subscribe now.
I just bought a whistle yesterday. This helped a ton! I couldn't figure out what I was doing wrong, but this showed me that I was reading the fingering chart backwards. Now I know how to play all the notes properly!
Thank you a million times over. I bought my tin whistle 15 years ago, but out of frustration put it down. Bought it at a fair, so I realize it's cheap, no key markings, but I think it's a D whistle. I was given not so good instructions, so I gave up. Then I found your channel. I'm practicing now. Determined to learn. Then I'll think about a real whistle. Thank you for all the tutorials. I dream of one day playing around the campfire while camping. The little things in life.
I bought my whistle yesterday 6 Dec 2022 and found your RUclips page thanks for the basic information now I need to practice . I am not a musician don't know anything about notes so hopefully everything will come together in my practice. Excellent! I play several instruments, but a tin whistle is not one of them. My granddaughter wanted a flute for her birthday so I thought this would be a good place to start. I really had no idea how to proceed so your video helped immensely...thank you!
Lovely and smart. I'm an old recorder and clarinet player who's just taken it into me old head to get a whistle for Paddy's day, and there's enough difference to warrant a nice tutorial like this. Thank you!
thank you so much... my friend had gone to Ireland and brought me back a tin whistle... had it in my bookshelf for nearly 20 years, my son is a music major and I wanted to have something to relate with him as music is his passion - so I dug it out and dusted it off. Grateful for your channel, your instructions are clear. Thank you
Brilliant first lesson. I bought a tin whistle several years ago, as I couldn't manage to make music from it, it was put away for a rainy day. After watching your lesson, I'm keen to give it a whirl.Thank you. Paul Lucas.
Great lesson Stephanie! Thank you! I ordered and just got my first Clarke!!! Learning new instrument while in qarantine for corona virus! Greetings from Greece
Thank you, Stephanie. I am brand new at tin whistling. In fact, I just got my very first tin whistle today in the mail: a Tony Dixon Trad D Cupro Nickel whistle. I'm so excited to start learning. After watching this video, I'm finding it a little bit easier to hit the notes. Thanks again.
Don't know which is more mesmerizing, the beautiful sounds of the tinwhistle or the presence of the lovely Ms. Stephanie. Thank you for correcting my mistakes (as a pan flautist, the transition is by no means smooth). Hopefully, with practice and diligence, I would be able to play melodies on my D and Bb in the near future.
Since when I were a kid I wanted to play the flute. Know that I traveled to Dublin and found this whistle, I will finally learn how to from a really good teacher ❤
stumbled across your channel today. It made me pick up my old low D whistle. I'd forgotten how soothing the sound is and boy am I out of practice. Not at all like jumping back on a bicycle after years of not riding. thank you for the inspiration. Now, to practice.

Or I should say will eventually how to play as I don't even have the money to get a cheap whistle. But I thank you for you videos and genuinely wanting to what your joy with not just me but all of the community. Happy whistling!

Thank you so much, your lesson is very, very useful for me, beginner... I've just bought my first tin-whistl in D ("Feadóg"), and you really help me. Greetings from Saint-Petersburg...
Something that has helped my playing is recording myself. If you're like me, the first time you hear yourself you might feel like snapping your whistle in two--but don't! I also experienced a little "stage fright." It was just me and my phone in the room but there was still pressure to get it right. That will pass, too. I have no problem reading the notes/tabs but my playing was rhythmically choppy. Hearing my playing improved the flow of the music. Most phones have a built-in recording app.
I currently only have a C whistle because it’s all I can ever find in local music shops, so I’ve resorted to making my own low D and D and others, but I don’t have any clue how to play it yet and your tutorial seems pretty legit and simple, I’m subscribe and keep learning 👍😎
So glad you said we need a Whistle in D. Bought one a few years back and tried to learn by a book (which did not work out great) and was worried I'd have the "wrong" whistle.

Planning to give my dad my extra 2 so we can learn and play together
Thanks for the great tutorial , all I need now is a tin whistle.
Thank you so much for this video; it's been extremely helpful as I really didn't know what I was doing before. Whereas now I actually have a half decent chance at getting started with this not so seemingly-simple instrument.
I got a tin whistle and it was very good 👍
And I am learning it
Thank you for this video Cutie Pie! I have a couple of tin whistles in my music collection. I play dulcimer but recently heard dulcimer and tin whistle together and now I need to learn to play the whistle 🎶😊👏

Even though I'm a very experienced whistle player, if I was a begginer this would be very helpful!
