  • I need to know how to fix a squeaky refrigerator door.
They say the squeaking door gets the grease.
This is on my fridge, not my bedroom.
The same concept of fixing it via WD-40 on the hinges applies.
You could also argue duct tape fixes it if I don’t open it.
It would help your diet too.
I want to open the fridge, just not have everyone one else hear it when I do.
You could tighten the hinges, assuming there isn’t a problem like rust or mechanical wear as to why it is loose in the first place.
Or I need to replace the hinge.
If you replace the hinges on the body of the fridge, you probably need to replace the hinges on the door itself.
Keep going, and I need to replace the entire exterior of the fridge. And I’d like a solution that doesn’t involve WD-40.
You can oil the hinges with other lubricants.
I don’t have any on hand.
Olive oil is an option, and it is in most people’s kitchens.
    I don’t have any.
    I’ve heard of butter used.
That solves the sound until it starts to smell.
Paraffin wax or baby oil works.
I put petroleum jelly on the baby, not baby oil.
Petroleum jelly is an option. That I don’t think will smell too, as weird in the kitchen.
Give me options I might have in the kitchen.
Spray on cooking oil of any type is an option too. And any lubricant works as long as the squeaking issue isn’t due to rust from a water leak.
If the fridge is rusting, a loose hinge is the least of my problems.
You can lubricate the hinge with a bar of soap too, for a little while, though I don’t know how sticky it turns after it dries.
I could use dish soap instead, since that’s in the kitchen.
While you’re at it, see if there’s any food residue, grease or sticky stuff on the door hinge. If it is making noise because it is dirty, cleaning it is better.
Cleaning the fridge usually focuses on the inside, not the outside.
You could put some corn starch in between floor boards under the fridge to reduce creaking while you’re at it.
    I have tile floors.
You do want to see if the hinge is loose, door is bent or some other mechanical problem, since that will lead to squeaking or grinding that gets worse with time.
    What else can I try?
I’ve heard of using furniture polish on squeaking door hinges, no matter where they are in the house. Hair spray too.
Those are usually sticky and dry in place.
I’m thinking the greasy stuff you use on your hair that makes it look shiny, but you’re right that you don’t want to use anything that hardens in place.
Sure, since I want the door to move cleanly or silently.
Don’t forget oils from the tool box whether for the sewing machine or machine tools. That may not be in the kitchen, but it is intended to lubricate anything that moves so it does just that.

Cooking spray...good idea. WD-40 is too stinky.
