I'm a freelance editor, and it is absolutely amazing! I get to forge super close relationships with my clients, and my job is sitting in coffee shops and reading books all day. Seriously, is there a better life? Good luck with your journey! I can hear your passion, and I know you're going to be successful.
@@xochitlaguiniga1517 unfortunately not, still want to though. I started making videos on youtube but im a very small channel, no where near being able to do it as my job. what freelance are you thinking about getting into?
I've become a freelancer 1 year ago, and just now I'm starting to feel comfortable about the clients and amount of work I'm having. When you go freelancer, specially on a country like mine, people just assume you are lazy and don't want to assume the responsibilities of a full time job. I have to say, freelance is actually a full time job. It has many challenges, which I had to learn how to deal with. Starting from waking up hours, managing your time, learning when to stop working and not work 20 hours a day, finding new ways to socialise daily with people, learning to communicate with clients or teams from other cultures and languages.... Freelancing is so beautiful, but its so much difficult that what people think of it and it requires lots of energy and dedication, because it doesn't happen over night. I hope you are doing great with your new career! Best of luck to you
I think I first considered freelancing all the way back in middle school. I've always felt drawn to writing and other forms of content creation. My problem has always been sitting down and making the commitment. It's an incredible amount of work, and when you're entering the adult world, it becomes a "sink or swim" moment. For me, the tricky part is staying consistent and trusting my abilities. It's easy for me to fall into a negative thinking pattern and quit before I fail. Anyway, I listened to the first episode of your podcast, and it was incredible. I look forward to hearing what else you have in store for listeners!
Hillarie Finley I'm so glad you loved the podcast, I'm so excited to making a whole new type of content! And yes 😅 it's so much work. It's a totally different lifestyle, but it's not an easier one!
I was just thinking the other day that this is how I want to live my life. Freelance just seems like the most fitting option for me. I discovered during my internship that 9-5 isn't my jam. I've already written my first book and I'm hoping that will be my start point to freelance :)
HI Lesia's I am looking for some freelancers who can work with me i develop python scripts to get data from linkedin Can you please send me a message for more discuss ?? Thank you Shafiq
honestly ariel, i wouldn't mind at all if you made more sponsored videos. I know how honest you are with us and how trully passionate you are about literature, so if you need the money, go ahead and work with companies. It's actually kind of awesome to realize that you're succesfull enough to have that oportunity.
Laughing because many engineer majors DO think their jobs are more important than that of a teacher. But who got them to the point they're at??? A teacher or professor lmao
Woaaah, this video came JUST in time!! I literally just started thinking about freelancing for something to do after college ends. Your videos are always so psychic about my life lol
If there was a 'love' button I would be hitting it right now!! This has made me so excited for my own future and I love how you explained that freelancing is sometimes actually just about lifestyle choices, made me feel a lot better about not wanting to be in 'normal' working environment. Good luck with it, I'll definitely be keeping up with the podcast 💞💞
I'm self-employed and it makes me happy. It also helps with my health issues. It can be tough sticking it out on your own and you have to do a lot of groundwork to reel new clients in, and there will be some rough times financially. But with your enthusiam I know you'll do really well Ariel.
This is awesome Ariel! I've actually just started looking into transitioning to freelance writing and there's a lot that I'm learning and I'm super excited about it.
Great video! I'm actually working right now as a freelance journalist. I love my flexible schedule and the ability to cover almost anything I want. The downside is that I often feel stressed about earning enough money to live comfortably. I get paid by the article so it can be a struggle to pull together enough assignments sometimes. So that's something to keep in mind. I'm excited about your podcast! I've already subscribed. Looking forward to hearing more about your freelancing journey!
Congrats for making that leap! I get that even admitting that you "are" something can be a big step, and something I still struggle with. So happy to see you own it.
Hey Ariel, this video is awesome cause I'm in the same spot. I'm a freelance photographer and it's weird to view as my career. I'm getting attached to part time jobs in fear of everything going down hill. Today I denied a part time job and I think I'll take the leap to go full time. I'm full time already at school and along with my freelance work I barely have enough time to have a social life or do things for pleasure. I'm scared becoming my own job....but it's nice to see someone take the plunge so willingly. You're all in, and that's awesome! I'll be looking forward to your podcast!
I love how open you are about your need for creativity, I find myself a bit stuck currently, because I have too much going on to find time to let my creativity flow, but I love that you make it your priority, and to make your own art. Very inspiring and hopeful.
I know what you mean. I currently work full time and really struggle to find the time to do the stuff I really want to do. I'm currently in the process of retraining with a view to going freelance in a few years. Fingers crossed!!
Woo good for you for making that decision! I'm currently studying a degree in publishing and I know that I will eventually end up freelancing. I've always wanted to work for myself (and hope to have children in the future without having to give up work), but I know that I need to get some real experience and make some connections first. I will definitely be checking out your podcast :)
I wonder if it isn't easier to work a normal 9-5 for a year or two, just so you can live on your own, make connections and make a name for yourself (as much as you can make a name for yourself in two years).
Master Well that's exactly what I meant by needing to get some more experience first. I'll obviously benefit from working 9-5 for a company and will probably enjoy it whilst I am, but I'm pretty set on what I want to do. I also said I will eventually end up freelancing, I know it's not going to be a quick journey. As for living on my own I did all that for years before I went back to college. Im currently living with my partner and have done for 2 years.
As a freelancer, I am so excited for your upcoming podcasts. Best of luck to you in your creative endeavors and thank you for the wonderful videos that always brighten my day.
I am a freelance ghostwriter and it's a ton of fun as much as it's a major pain haha. I find the difficulty comes between having time to write my own books and working on books for clients. And don't get me started on writing for other people haha. There is so much nuance to it all. Good luck in your new career!
Doing freelance is awesome! It can be hard financially of course, but you do get to be your own boss and it can be more enjoyable. I want in marketing at a hospital and every now and then when we have a huge project we have a freelance writer come in :)
This was such a relatable video! I'm currently working as a freelance editor while in school and share pretty much all of your feelings! It's awesome and encouraging to see other people feeling the way I do about (their) art
I've been working on trying to go freelance for the past few months, focusing on freelance writing. I'm planning on starting an Etsy shop and I'm gonna sell zines and eventually some art!
Congrats, Ariel! Good luck with freelancing. I think it's great you recognized that you're not cut out for 9 to 5 early on, and did what's right for you. That's a big deal! Not many people can do it!
Decluttering is the absolute best!! I give you major credit friend- freelancing is so much hustle and commitment! I'm excited to see all the fun places this takes you :)
Love the way you explaining the stuff in your video.. i think no one will get bored while watching this... best of luck for your freelancing carrier... 👍👍
Embarking on the freelancing adventure was the best decision I've ever made! For anyone who aspires to become a freelancer I suggest to keep learning in-demand skills, follow your passion, and the success will follow!
Hi Ariel, I'm freelance writing at the moment and it can be quite a solitary exercise, so I'm really looking forward to your podcast and to hearing about your experiences! I think you'll do wonderfully. :)
I’m happy to hear all your excitement! Hope you accomplish all your working towards! I’m currently going to school and working towards becoming a freelancing software developer.
Wow, that's huge! :) I want to be self-employeed, too. I tried to make an internship at a radio station but... I stopped doing it after two days. :D I can't stand the idea of working at an office for 6 or 8 hours and not having time for my own creative stuff. :( So I feel you a 100%. I love writing, I love creating, I love making videos (German BookTube, TalkVideos and so on) and of course reading. It feels like dying in an office. I am happy for all those people who love their normal 9 to 5 job but I don't think it's for me so I have to find another way to make money. 😊
Dear Ariel, I am a freelancer myself and I am so exited for you to join us (the freelancers community) on this journey :-) I am a freelance book cover designer and I work as a publisher for LGBTQ books and I do held self publishing authors. I am from geremany but if you need any held, just let me know ♥
''All those books wouldn't be here if not for the great publicity'' . That line, is why I went into freelance because I started to realise that having the creative mind / talent gives you an edge over the one with only the idea and not the talent to do the work themselves.
oh, being self employed is hard. I hope things will work out fine for you! :) But be careful with passions, they might mislead us sometimes... I know quite well how boring woking at an office can be, too. I am currently an intern in the law area, which means extra boring. But, what can I do? I need the money. I hope that I can break free from all this crap some day, just like you did! :D You inspire me!
This is so awesome. Any time I see a video of someone going after goal, it just makes me so happy. It's very inspiring and I wish you the best of luck. I recently subscribed so it's great to be able to go on this journey with you. :)
Really excited to check out the podcast. i have been self employed since last july and it's certainly a struggle moneywise currently but worth the positives for me personally.
I can really relate to doing an internship and using that to decide what my career would be. I have developed so much experience and also happiness from interning and volunteering. Good luck with your endeavours! I am sure that this will lead to great things. :)
Kudos for realizing early on that working in a "standard" office environment isn't for you! I've been a freelance translator for years, and although it can be rough going at times, the advantages to my physical, mental and emotional well-being make it entirely worthwhile. All the best on this new journey! (Oh, and I'd like to add my voice to those hoping your podcast can be accessed without iTunes...)
A semi-freelancer here! :) I really like the way my life is right now as I get the best of both worlds... A modicum of financial security and doing what I love at the same time! Anyway, it was great to hear about your experience :))
This video was timely as I have also set my mind on a freelancing career. I still mostly work a day job but have made some changes in the past year towards that goal. Great video and also love so many of your non bookish videos. I am so excited to have found your podcast because your journey is super relatable!
Great idea to start a podcast, Ariel! I'm actually working on building a freelance career, myself. I'm a writer, and I've had a few contracts for copywriting and technical writing so far. I don't write novels at this point, but I enjoy marketing writing and I've found that marketing communications almost always involve a different sort of storytelling - building a story around a company or client's brand and image, and then ensuring all communications - external and internal - contribute to that. It's REALLY fascinating for me. I'm looking for full-time work with a company at this point, but I'm doing freelance stuff on the side. The goal is to build up a large enough client base that I can hold my own and quit my "day job" :) I'll check out your podcast. I wish you the best of luck. Succeeding as a freelancer takes a lot of hard, dirty work, but it can be a labour of love if the work you are doing is something you are passionate about. Fingers crossed that you can build a work life that you love!
Thank you so much for sharing your stories with us. It's really helps. In Arabic i can not find This time of content so i happy because i can understand and at the same time improving my English.
Yes! hey! I have been thinking about whether I should go into freelancing. I want to do something that lets me be creative, and let's me write. But I've been thinking about going into the publishing industry too. But in India, where I live, having a job in a publishing company isn't financially beneficial. I REALLY want to know, do the publishing companies in Canada and England pay well?
Ariel, I'm genuinely so excited about all these projects you have! I picked up my phone so so fast when you started to talk about your podcast, I can't wait to start listening to it! I'm also very excited about your new zine. I will admit that I didn't buy any of the previous ones, though I do want to (I live in Europe and shipping costs, ouch!). I really would love to have a physical copy of them, you know, so much better than digital. However, when your new zine will come out, I'd like to support you, and so will buy it, either spending tons of money on shippings, or deciding that a digital copy is still better than nothing, right? Right. Have a great day! You are so inspiring!
This is an exciting life change! I'm so happy for you. Is there any way you could make your podcast available on SoundCloud or at least somewhere other than Itunes? I would love to listen, but don't have any Apple Devices and I don't really want to download iTunes to my computer.
HI Marina I am looking for some freelancers who can work with me i develop python scripts to get data from linkedin Can you please send me a message for more discuss ?? Thank you Shafiq
As someone that's looking to do an English degree at university in a couple of years and has no idea what to do afterwards, this was a really interesting and inspiring video for me, so thank you for making it! Good luck, I hope it goes well!
I've been thinking of freelancing too!! (Once I graduate) I don't like the idea of working under someone else and being unable to do the thing I love; read, write, paint, photograph, videograph etc.
This sounds fantastic! Best of luck with it all! I study translation, and I've been toying with the idea of being a freelance translator, so I will be eagerly following your journey!
So interesting! I want to be a freelancer myself, both an author and a cover designer, and it's definitely not easy, but just like you I've found that I need to be my own boss. I've just started myself, so it's really cool to be able to follow your journey. Loved the first episode (/trailer) of the podcast , will listen to the rest soon! 🌸
Editing video for other people is actually so much fun! :D I was just on your patreon and 2 things which I find are missing are a video as people arrive and some higher tiers, some people may want to donate more than the 2 tiers you have at the moment if there is a reward :)
I am so excited to check out the podcast! I am a freelance writer, and I have taken time off to have my baby, so I feel like I am starting from scratch getting back into work mode. Haha. Best of luck with the career change!
yo best of luck with this hope it goes really well! funny thing is i'm studying translation and freelance is like soo common among us and i thought you had some pretty specific idea around that xd... you know... cuz i'd like to hear some specific ideas about now, i'm kinda lost too
It's so great that you made a podcast! Keep up the good work :) I just wanted to ask you if you've considered becoming a teacher? You're brilliant at explaining things and you're passionate and inspiring - everything a teacher should be! The world needs more people like you to teach!
All this of having time to be creative and being self-employd sounds like heaven, and I'd like to try it, since I'd like to be a writer and I enjoy very much things like digital editing, but I'm not sure if it would work for me, because I have a HUGE problem with procrastination, discipline and time mangement. I guess I still have a some time to learn and change, since I'm barely starting college, but the thought of having all my time and my income depend entirely of me it's kind of terrifying. However, even if I feel like freelancing is too risky for me, I hope that it really works for you and that in a future video you can tell us a bit more about your experience, what worked, what didn't, tips, things like that; as always, your content is inspiring and interesting and I hope you keep it up forever as you said, because I'll be watching for sure.
This is going be so helpful to freelancers! I have always considered freelancing, but since it was a very broad career choice, it was hard knowing what exactly it is...
'Till now I discover this great video!!! I was on my "watch later" list but I'm feeling it fits in my current life. That's encouraging me!!! Thanks :) I'll check your podcast...
Would love to get an update on how this is going! I just graduated in May and am trying to get into freelance more so I'd to hear your advice if you have some. Hope it's going well. Cheers.
Would you do a creative project (like make a zine) collaboratively? As in, ask your viewers/ listeners to contribute stuff? I'm making one with a friend and since we're probably going to have to rely on digital transfer for what each of us wants to include, I thought it might work via a platform like yours as well. Either way I'm glad you're finding and sticking to creative outlets that you've grown passionate about and sharing that passion with us. Your podcast sounds very promising!
Sometimes I feel like you are inside my mind XD you speak about things that cross my mind all the time and can't find answers for and I find your videos very helpful and relatable
I'm a freelance editor, and it is absolutely amazing! I get to forge super close relationships with my clients, and my job is sitting in coffee shops and reading books all day. Seriously, is there a better life?
Good luck with your journey! I can hear your passion, and I know you're going to be successful.
That's incredible! Do you mind me asking how you get into that and how you established clients? That must have been so difficult in the beginning!
please trained me
That sounds amazing!!! You are living the absolute dream!!!!!!!
Please tell me more about that
that sounds like the perfect life indeed. Got to start working for it to become my life as well I guess...
Sometimes I like to dream about going freelance and never having to work that 9-5 at a desk, one day man one day
Did you get started as a freelancer? I’m at the edge point on throwing my 9-5 towel and start freelancing.
@@xochitlaguiniga1517 So what would you wanna do? 😬

Okay this video is almost a month old but right now I'm downloading Podcast again because I need to listen to your podcasts :D
The goal is to build up a large enough client base that I can hold my own and quit my "day job" :)
I'll check out your podcast.
Omg i was just thinking abt this, all your videos always seem to come to me at the right time!
Good luck. I am writing a book and soon it will be published on my website, I hope so.
Super excited to start listening to your podcast. I also want to go freelance and was looking for a new podcast !!
Yes!
I've added it to soundcloud so that you can hear it! Thanks for bringing this to my attention! :) soundcloud.com/portraitofafreelancer
Thanks! I can't wait to listen to it. :D
Hi Ariel. I did the same thing but because of my health. It was so hard for me to begin but it's worth it!
Yay, PODCAST!
This was so interesting and informative! Good luck with your career!

So excited to listen to your podcast 😀😀😀 this video is right on time!
I am so excited to check out the podcast! I am a freelance writer, and I have taken time off to have my baby, so I feel like I am starting from scratch getting back into work mode. Haha. Best of luck with the career change!
yo best of luck with this hope it goes really well!
funny thing is i'm studying translation and freelance is like soo common among us and i thought you had some pretty specific idea around that xd... you know... cuz i'd like to hear some specific ideas about now, i'm kinda lost too
My ultimate dream is to work from home but I have no clue how to do it! I currently work in an office and it is the worst :/
i've always really appreciated your consistency with youtube and your content is always awesome
Good luck! I already subscribed to the podcast. Keep it up! :D
It's so great that you made a podcast! Keep up the good work :)
I just wanted to ask you if you've considered becoming a teacher? You're brilliant at explaining things and you're passionate and inspiring - everything a teacher should be! The world needs more people like you to teach!
I'd love to be a freelance writer. Can't wait to listen to your podcast!
thanks for making videos Ariel, i'm definitely reading whatever you write
books everywere. i envy the fact that you have so many books. i have the feeling you have more than me. and i thought the books i have were alot
I recently re-shelved most of my books too! {The ones I've already read anyway...}
Document > create. Love your passion, expression, and creativity. Keep it up and looking forward to seeing the new great things you come up with.
Getting an hour for lunch sounds like a dream. Been working for over 20 years and have never had this
This is going be so helpful to freelancers! I have always considered freelancing, but since it was a very broad career choice, it was hard knowing what exactly it is...
Awesome video from awesome freelance.
You are a blast of good feeling. Very enjoyable!
'Till now I discover this great video!!! I was on my "watch later" list but I'm feeling it fits in my current life. That's encouraging me!!! Thanks :) I'll check your podcast...
Wow, this is a perfect video for me. I wanted to be a freelance Graphic Designer. I'm going to be taking up Graphic Design & Advertising.
So awesome you started a podcast, they are the future!
Would love to get an update on how this is going! I just graduated in May and am trying to get into freelance more so I'd to hear your advice if you have some. Hope it's going well.
Cheers.
0:01 That "about" was amazing.
New sub here. Love your videos and wish you the best of luck in this. We will all support you!
That is awesome! I think that you will do really well with freelancing - Good Luck!
Your podcast is really interesting! And it's helping me do boring packing as I'm moving 👌
WOOHOO!!!! Super happy for you, Ariel!!!
You made my day :)
Best of Luck for your Career!
