Residents of Taiwan's Kinmen unfazed as China ramps up wargames

Taiwan's outlying island Kinmen may be among the closest to China, but most residents remain unfazed by Beijing’s unprecedented war games. Many even have close ties with the mainland. Kinmen is even relying on China's Fujian province for water supply, after it began importing water in 2018. As a result of this special affinity, Taiwan's pro-independence ruling Democratic Progress Party has never managed to gain a foothold in Kinmen, despite fielding candidates to contest in successive local elections.
