    Bob Perkins absolutely knows his Ford stuff.
    The previous owner did most of the research I heard, but I'm glad Bob ended up with the car. He's possibly the only person on the planet, who either already had or could source all the parts it needed, including the engine... as well as the knowledge to put it all together. Congratulations on a fantastic job, Bob, and thanks for a great interview, Lou! 👍

The reason being, it would never get driven and I'd have to hire no less than 8 guards, taking shifts 24/7. And then I'd have to have guards to watch the guards. I know - its an endless vicious cycle. Am I right? You know datsa right! (smiles)

    I never knew a Boss 302 existed. Breathtaking and incredible, to say the least. The owner has an amazing encyclopedia like knowledge of this one-off great car. Nobody could have done better than what he has done with her, bringing her to assembly line condition. He says Ford had 7000 engines ready to go for this Boss production run. I wonder what Ford did with the other 6999 motors....... put them as stock spares for 69-70 Boss 302's? Made available to SCCA racers in the trans am circuit? Inquiring minds want to know! Man this a unicorn, in the truest sense. Spectacular. I wonder why it had 2 manufacturer tags...the 2nd one shows an H code which wouldn't be right for either a boss 302 or boss 351... Maybe Ford was going to repurpose it? He did say that it had some Mach 1 trim on it, but neither tag shows a Mach body code. Who knows what all permutations this went thru at the beginning. 71 Boss 302 and yellow. All original, not molested. One thing I noticed that you didn't point out in keeping with the originality of this car. The 1971 Michigan manufacturer's license plate mounted on the back. That is exactly what the plate looked like, but I realize that one could be a replica. In my hometown, the grandson of the richest man in town had a yellow 71 Boss 302. He would cruise Main Street and park in the parking lot of closed businesses and hang out with other guys that had muscle cars, and there were plenty of them back then. Those were the days of 25 cents per gallon gasoline. Great car, it brings back memories.

    Why did Ford decide not to build the 1971 Boss 302?
    Was the new body so heavy that the 302 was too weak to move it along, so they updated to the 351 out of necessity?
    Is this particular car slow?

    • @loucostabile
      @loucostabile  5 месяцев назад +2

      Hi Michael, Hmmm, I'm not sure, however I'd guess the Ford Executives might have thought, let's update the 1971 with a bigger cubic inch motor to impress the performance minded buyers! However the design was nowhere near as popular as the 1970 design (which the 1960's Mustangs designs were a big hit) so there were few sold. Good news! The rarity has made the car popular now. Is it slow? In 1971, it was ok. Technology advances, quickly, so compared to V8 Mustangs of today, yes it would seem slow. Lou

      Ford was out of racing and didn't need to build the B302 or B429 to the general public to qualify for entry into racing in '71. Thus, Ford's engineers released a beefed up 351c that became the B351. Exclusively a street machine. No racing pedigree, no qualifications for anything. Just pure street machine.

    There is information that there was another 71 boss 302 that was in medium blue metallic with silver stripes and decals and a black interior. It’s said that car was crushed. The thing is we don’t know for sure it was crushed. It could be very well hidden away either complete or in pieces. I sure hope it wasn’t crushed. If it wasn’t, it would be a holy grail find

      It’s touched on briefly with the sticker on the door jam. In the original video where Bob acquires this car it was the only way he knew it was a 302. He said had the car been restored before he got it then it would have been lost forever. If a blue one exists and possibly restored then it’s likely just another Mustang.
      This video in question if you want to check it out.

    An absolute one-off right enough!! Lou, there seems to be a distinct lack of values mentioned on car videos in general - is this deemed as "rude" over in the USA? I'm sure I'm not the only one who's thinking "HOW MUCH IS THAT THING WORTH?!!", as unique as it is! You could maybe get around any awkwardness by asking what the insurance valuations are on the cars you feature. Anyway, just a thought and thanks again for another fabulous video!

    My only question about the restoration of this car is why does it have black interior when the original photos of the car from 1970 you can clearly see that it has red interior (or at the very least red seats). You can see the seat backrest is red in one of the photos. I agree that the black interior makes more sense but if the prototype originally had red/vermilion seats…then it should’ve been restored back to that version…no matter how horrendous that color combo might be.

    Lou, this car is bogus. A long list as to why. Most important is those door ID stickers are available as blank for restoration purposes. All the blank spaces can be typed in as wanted/needed for a restoration. Dash ID plate is not shown in your video, but it shows the engine code as a 351 2v which is what was in the car when obtained through Ebay. Perkins has access to the components needed to create/build this bogus car. I've had a successful vintage/classics restoration shop since the mid 80's and I was with Ford for 40 years as a master level factory certified auto/truck tech.
