Stargazer is a perfect song. This song never gets old. I'm 59 and it still make's me cry like a baby. Rainbow belongs in the RnRHOF for their first 3 albums alone.
Quite possibly the best song ever recorded, in my humble opinion. The combination of composition, lyrics, and Dio's incredible storytelling makes for one of the most emotional musical journeys I can think of. Thanks for your reaction to this masterpiece!
"Stargazer" is an epic classic that is superior vocally, musically and composition. One of the best songs ever recorded. In 1977 Rainbow did a live concert in Munich Germany for TV, there is some great footage from this magical concert that should be reacted to. From this concert the songs, "Mistreated" and "Catch the Rainbow" are the stand out masterpieces, however the other songs "Man on the Silver Mountain", "Long Live Rock n Roll", "Still I'm Sad", "16th Century Greensleeves", "Do You Close Your Eyes", and "Kill the King" are exceptional as well. This band is packed with talent.
@@galadballcrusher8182 I would call them a Super group, but many wouldn't. I see Ritchie, Dio and Cozy as 3 of the best. However only Ritchie has most of the stardom. Cozy some, and Dio was just getting his rightful exposure.
Also keep in mind that the Munich concert was performed at basically midnight because Richie Blackmore had spent 3 days in jail in Austria. He was released and went straight to the concert still wearing the same clothes he had on from the last show where he was arrested, then proceeded to give one of the best performances ever.
The audio on this video was the studio version of Stargazer, dubbed into live clips, but of all the singers in rock, Ronnie was one of the few who was just as good live as he was in the studio and, at times, even better! He retained that quality in his singing spanning six decades. I don’t know of another singer about whom that can truthfully be said. His lyrics and way with a melody took you on fantastic journeys. RJD was a one-off and has gone down in the annals of music history as The King of Metal. To top it off, nobody treated their fans better and had more reverence and gratitude for them than Ronnie. He wrote his music to lift us up and indeed, that’s exactly what it did and does. Ronnie once said, “It’s not how long your pencil is, it’s how big you write your name.” To his fans, his name is scrawled across the very cosmos for all time! He will be deeply loved, sorely missed and loudly cranked forever and ever. Amen! 🤘🏼
This song is probably in the top 10 best songs ever created. Each time I hear it I feel in the same time deeply sad and happy it's really difficult to explain.
Ronnie was never trained professionally. He was totally self taught. He listened to opera/classical music when he was young and it shows when he sings. The guy had range for days. If he wanted, he could have solely sang and made opera music and I am convinced he would have been a star in that genre. He was that talented and versatile. He is nearly unmatched.
This is very true definite masterpiece. Awesome composition, and larger than life vocal perfomance. And always when speaking of Rainbow you have to give credit to whole band.
I was so fortunate to see Rainbow ,i was my very first concert .Ronnies vocals were incredible and he was such a humble soft speaking man .His legacy will live on .
17 hours ago I said that this was the best male vocal performance ever in a rock song. I’m really happy that you enjoyed it as much as you did. Now you know why there was a clamour for it. I’m not sure if there is a video available on RUclips, but you have to listen to “Rainbow Eyes” from the album after this (his last with Rainbow). I saw this tour live around 77/78 and It was amazing, Richie Blackmore's first band after he had left Deep Purple, and what a gem Dio was that he found to front this awesome band. An absolute legend. Your reaction and your choice of words are perfect and makes me feel so happy. the album Rainbow Rising will always be In the hall of fame for brilliance
What a time to be alive. Seen that tour in Detroit. It's too bad so many people will never get to experience what we did.late 70s,early 80s. Unmatched music and concerts.
@@rodneypaul3035 i agree mate i saw him live solo as well as with rainbow but not with sabbath. But a world class singer he was and how lucky we was to seeing him in the early days with rainbow i cherish it
Easily one of the greatest rock/metal songs ever written. Even for someone who's heard nearly every major rock/metal band and album out there from the 70s to today this song still stands out as one of the pinnacles. Pretty much every element is perfect, from Cozy Powell's virtuosic drum intro and fills, to the grooving bass of Jimmy Bain, to that instantly memorable keyboard/choral progression from Tony Carey, to Ritchie Blackmore delivering one of the best guitar riffs AND solos in the same damn song to... well, of course, the GODLY vocals of RJD. One of those perfect song that every element is at its highest level and changing anything would diminish it.
Rainbow came along for me in those crazy years of my mid to late teens. I still get shivers from Stargazer over 40 years later. One thing that saddens me is that we didn’t have the technology to produce live concert videos as well as they are done today. I love that you are exploring the music that I drew up with and that helped me form my musical tastes.
I remember going to Minneapolis, MN in 2000 to see Dio in concert at the (now defunct) Quest Club on the 'Magica' tour... I really hope you give Mistreated (Live in Munich 1977) a listen. That performance in my mind is the greatest live performance of all time. It really showcases how good the band sounded live. To be fair, any song from Live in Munich is gonna rock your socks off. Just an absolute masterpiece.
Can't tell you how thankful I am that you doing STARGAZER. Just my opinion but not enough reactors are doing DIO so kudos to you. I bought RAINBOW RISING ALBUM in 1978 and it is STILL AWESOME today. Your in for a treat.
I will use the word literally in its most pure form. It is LITERALLY one of the greatest vocal performances in hard rock/metal/ music. Brilliant guitar work from Blackmore to boot. 🤘🤘🤘 RJD forever.
Ronnie was one of the nicest most genuine people you could ever meet especially if you were a fan. Ronnie ALWAYS had time for his fans. He had almost a perfect recall memory...a guy that met thousands of fans annually would famously recall names and meeting you years earlier. He was not always as pleasant with his bandmates because he was a perfectionist and had strong opinions.
Ritchie Blackmore. One of the best guitarists that has ever blessed us with his talent in the metal world along with Dio's tremendous vocals. Words can't express..........
I saw him in 99, only heard one song in the car on the way there. ”Rainbow in the dark”. He was really amazing, great on stage, sang perfectly, great band. My first real consert, I was around 16 or so.
His vocals were not only legendary, his song writing skillset were leagues above anyone who came before or after him! BTW Richie typically plays his solos using that Arabic scale. NOTE: The 2nd part of this song is entitled "A Light in the Black", check it out (Richie's solo in that session is mind blowing & of course Ronnie shines as always)…Thanks for the decades of memories Ronnie, and for you Aileen for show-casing and appreciating the music we grew up on. Great Reaction
This is one of Ritchie Blackmore"s best compositions, songs and solos from an amazing career. Great and amazing tune. Ronnie was at his best, too. For more Ritchie at his apex, see his video concert of Deep Purple at the California Jam in 1974. Try You Fool No One, the whole band goes off in front of a 1/4 million fans. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
This was the studio recording with a collage of video and still shots. The guitarist (Richie Blackmore) was renowned for creating guitar solos that were both melodic and organic (i.e. they fitted the song context rather than just added for the sake of having a guitar solo\) - live this song was even more epic. Dio was a powerhowse vocalist and the drummer at the time (Cozy Powell) was also a huge presence at the back of the stage. A great ... but short-lived band.
Great reaction to the song & the solo! Ritchie Blackmore was the master "snake charmer" of solos on this and many other Rainbow classics with Dio. His solo on "Gates of Babylon" is one of his best and also one of his favorites. Well worth checking out. Also have a look and listen to "Love is All" with Dio on vocals from the Butterfly Ball album. Cheers!
The whole band did something fantastic here. Listen to all the instruments and the synhesisers and strings too in the end. What a climax! and the words, "my eyes are bleeding" "I´m coming home!" What does it mean?
Blackmore was top dog when this band was formed, but by the time Rainbow Rising was released with the addition of Cozy Powell on drums it was clear Dio was the star of the band. 3 alpha males in one band. By the time Long Live Rock n Roll came out, it was Dio's Rainbow. I had the privilege of seeing the band on the Long Live tour and Dio was the Star and Ritchie knew it and tried to draw attention to himself..."hey, this is my band." He has a big ego, but RJD had stolen the spotlight. Anyway, check out the entirety of Rainbow Rising. One of the absolute greatest metal albums of all time. A masterpiece. Great review also. Keep ' em coming.
I think tension is the word you were looking for rather than anxious. Good music builds tension and then resolves it much like a good story has a build up, climax and resolution. If Stargazer had been the only song Rainbow ever wrote, it would be enough to categorize them as an epic band. Dio certainly is one of the top five rock/metal vocalists that ever graced the planet. We miss him dearly.
As wonderful as this was you really need to check out what is probably Ronnie’s greatest live performance and quite possibly the greatest live vocal performance in rock n roll ever. The song is “Mistreated” and the one to watch is from the video Rainbow - Mistreated (Live in Munich 1977) HD. It’s a must
Your face is as expressive as Dio's voice. About a year ago I came across the Stargazer video and watched it a bunch of times. The emotion Dio projects, especially at the end, brings tears to my eyes. Then I got a message from the girl I regrettably broke up with 21 years prior. I asked her to take me back, and she did. Whenever I hear Dio's soulful lament to "take me back", it reminds me of the emotions I felt in the week between her first message and the hug that made us both realize we belong together. Keep on Rockin' and reacting!
Thank you so much for experiencing RJD with Rainbow, Black Sabbath and his solo work! You express yourself beautifully. All your comments are spot-on. I would also add that there are few other musicians who can write lyrics like Dio. His songs are packed with such depth and mystery they are a never ending source of meditation and catharsis. Equally so, I know of no other guitarist more meticulous than Richie Blackmore who had a profound influence on Dio's performance precision. Thank you for honoring him, I love how you phrased it that "he has made a place in our heart," it has never been said better. I've had the privilege of seeing him in concert, he truly and dearly loved his audience, of whom you have joined. Thank you.
I love your comments on Dio's vocals a lot, and the band. That is my favorite band since 1986 (yes, I'm that old, get over it!!, lol). Dio, Blackmore, and Powell were all three the best at their crafts of all time, you put them together, well this song shows it! Please enjoy many more Rainbow songs! I will look for more of your commentaries in the future!
The ending always makes me so sad. It feels like Dio is singing about leaving us. 😢 «I see a rainbow rising, look there, on the horizon, and I’m coming home» it’s like he is going to Heaven, but he’s sad and wants someone to take him back… 🤍🤘
The song is about people building a huge structure for a wizard to show them h3 can fly. After a long time and many victims later wizard gets on top and jumps.. he falls and dies, so the ending part is a lament to a wizard and himself
The song ‘a light in the black’ on the same lp has similar lyrics, at the end Dio sings about coming home, which I interpret as returning to the Summerlands / Heaven.
You just experienced real rock n roll. This is a masterpiece sang by the greatest rock n roll voice of all times. The whole band is made up of the greatest in their craft. I remember when this came out and i had to have the vinyl. I still have it.
In another Stargazer's reaction I saw a brilliant comment and is this is probably The Best Vocal Outro Ever. Ronnie touching our souls and that magic, mysterious and melodic line. Just a masterpiece.
This is without a doubt Ronnie's greatest vocal performance. I saw Ronnie when he was with Black Sabbath in 1981 and it was an absolutely magical experience
Stargazer is considered by most Ronnie’s greats vocal performance. His voice really fit perfectly with Blackmore’s style of music. Dio’s voice is the voice of heavy metal. He was one of a kind.
Hello, glad you found Dio and Rainbow. They're both great. If you'd like to check out some more Rainbow, I'd recommend "Rainbow Eyes" it's such a beautiful song and one of not a lot where it's Dio just straight up singing without his growl. Also "Catch the Rainbow" it's such a vibe. I think those are two you'd enjoy in particular. Anyways, have fun on your musical journey!
RJD in my opinion approached his music like a musical theatre production, this tune could very easily be adapted to a Broadway production. Dio, saw him 3 times twice solo, once on the Heaven and Hell tour, he was unique, no other vocalist matched his vocal capabilities. ♥️
How could anyone "NOT" be impressed with Dio, and Blackmore's Rainbow. Modern rock, mixed with baroque, Renaissance, and medieval-classical influenced fusion, which started a whole new genre of rock music, lasting decades to come. A band that influenced, and launched thousands of musical careers. And it was awesome to see her so entranced by Ritchie's guitar solo. She looked like she was about to sploosh all over her chair. Thats just how I felt when I first listened to Ritchie. Unbelievable! I am happy to see the music of my generation still appreciated. Thank you for that.
This is the best line up of Rainbow: Blackmore, Powell, Bain, Carey and of course the outstanding Ronnie. I first heard "stargazer" more than 40 years ago in my father's car. I have listened to it a thousand times and it blows my mind every time....just like "Heaven and Hell". It's hard to decide which one I like better. Ronnie was truly remarkable and no matter how many bands I listen to no matter how many singers I have favorites, Ronnie is always miles ahead. I really love him. RIP Ronnie!
My dear Aileen, for me I have seen all of the reaction reviewers on this site for many years, you still carry on always with so much enthusiasm , and my dear you always have the best smile , when I hear Ronnie singing I tear up knowing what a great singer he was and what he went through in his last few months battling stomach cancer, I think he is up in heaven looking down on you and say a big thankyou,
I count myself lucky having seen them in concert in Adelaide (South Australia) in 1976. You really must do the follow up/sequel A Light In The Black. The two songs took up the whole B side of the brilliant Rising album. I’m 70yo now and love Rainbow and Deep Purple - LOUD!
That song is the one no one knows how was created, it is such a different mind travel every time you listen to it, it has no words ahow to describe it. The line up was perfection dio, blackmore, appice, bain and lord, humanity rarely see a line up like this.
Blackmore and Dio, probably my favorite musical partnership ever. These two guys on stage together and an amazing band…those drums…what more can anyone ask for?
this is perfection from the beginning to the end. And the best thing: the best vocalist ever did the singing ! R.I.P. Ronnie, may you find all you were looking for in Sto'Vo'Kor
and Aileen you are still the best reviewer here by far, you see the real talent in these musicians and singers, my hat is off to you my dear, live long and prosper,
Dear Aileen, you have been right in all of your reviews, you really have your finger on the pulse when it comes to this style of music be it hard rock or metal, bravo to you as you are my favoutite of all time, touche long live rock and roll !
"I see a rainbow rising"... That line still gets me, chills and goosebumps every time! Masterpiece is an often overused word but in this case it's fully justified. OK, so this is the studio version synched over the live performance, so I'm guessing maybe the original live audio quality wasn't too good, but take nothing away from the actual song itself. I've listened to Stargazer so many times down the years I've lost count and it's still as amazing now as the first time it blew me away over four decades ago.
You’re so at ease with yourself it’s adorable. Love your stream of consciousness approach, a perfect demonstration of Zen. And impeccable taste in music too ✨
Dio was such an amazing vocalist and from all the interviews I had seen from different people he was an all-around good person. HE would go out of his way for his fans. It is mind blowing that he had very little vocal training. One of his best vocal performances was the song Mistreated by Rainbow, the live version from 1977 in Munich.🤘
Nice reaction Ms. Senpai, it's nice to see young people appreciate the classics. I'm too lazy to check all the comments so I apologize if you've heard these stories before. Also apologies to all the fellow commenters that already told her these things. Dio was not a trained vocalist, but his father wanted him to have a healthy productive hobby as a boy and stay out of trouble so he forced him to pick an instrument (he chose trumpet) and practice for hours every day. So this is where he got his breath control that enables him to sing so powerfully. His only warm up before a gig? Half a joint and a beer. According to legend! As a person? I've never met him if course but have always heard/read he would always stay after a gig (no matter how long it took) to make sure EVERYONE got an autograph. If you chatted with him once and he saw you maybe a few years later he would remember your name and what you talked about. He truly appreciated his fans! If you've made it all the way to the end of this comment thanks for your time and for showing one of my heroes so much respect
Awesome, I am from Ronnie Dio's hometown in Central NY. We celebrate him in our community every year having what is called Dio Day. There is also a street in our town named Dio Way. We never have forgotten where he came from. What a legend!!!
You need to check out rainbow live in Munich Germany 1977 the song mistreated to truly appreciate Ronnie's voice the notes that he hits and holds is just truly incredible
OMG I cannot wait for the look on your face. The greatest guitar player in rock history coupled with the greatest male vocalist in rock, backed by the powerhouse drumming of Cozy Powell. Of that trio, only Ritchie is still with us, and he’s still the master. The outro is the best male vocal performance in a rock song ever.
Unlike most other guitarists, Blackmore's solos almost never feels like just a filler. He is equally good both when he goes completely bananas and slow and melodic.
She's still probably just gonna comment on the bass xD That's what has happened many times when a sick guitar solo has started playing. Nothing wrong with that though!
RAINBOW was the personal project of Deep Purple"s former (and founder) guitarist RITCHIE BLACKMORE. After he quit Purple he picked the members of ELF, (except the guitarist of course). ELF was the band that opened the concerts of Purple in 1975; with them, Blackmore formed the first incarnation of Rainbow, including Ronnie James Dio on vocals. With Blackmore, Ronnie received tha opportunity he was expecting for a long time and started to shine by himself and by his very unique talent and vocal style. STARGAZER is one of the songs from Rainbow second album called 'Rising', maybe the best album of the band. Dio recorded only one more album and quit, because of musical differences with Blackmore and start to shine solo. For a time he joined Black Sabbath, but finally he formed his own band called simply DIO. He appeared with Deep Purple in 1999, when they celebrated 30 years of the 'Concerto For Group and Orchestra' and sing a couple of songs with them on that show (with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall), you can check, and react to that performance too here: ruclips.net/video/lxaCl7Ce95M/видео.html
Ritchie Blackmore who is on the guitar is someone who can play anything with strings, he proves this in his newer band with his third wife. Blackmore's Knight. Highly recommend them as well for a reaction video
In the 80s and 90s I was in my teens and twenties and Dio was by far my favorite of all the music I listened too. He's my only artist hero. His voice is the best. Thanks Ronnie! ❤️🙏

Rainbow was such a great band Ronnie James Dio and Ritchie Blackmore were amazing together, great song choice 👍.
I saw him in 99, only heard one song in the car on the way there. ”Rainbow in the dark”. He was really amazing, great on stage, sang perfectly, great band. My first real consert, I was around 16 or so.
THE best classic rock song ever. My brother had Rainbow Rising LP in 1976, been a fan since then, nothing can touch this song or LP for excellence.
I'm a big Pink Floyd fan, but I think this is truly magical. The story, the energy, the voice, amazing.
Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
when you compare the old bands with new ones, you could only cry what the youth from today has to listen...
I still cry when I’m listening to this masterpiece
Dio is by far and away the best vocalist you're going to hear. R.I.P. Ronnie James Dio.
Glad to see you checking out Rainbow!! Plenty to discover here!!
That's how I was when I first heard this song, just blown away. It's great seeing you have the same experience I had. Truly a fantastic song.
When he sings "my eyes are bleeding" it makes me want to cry. Also, "I see a rainbow rising" I miss Ronnie so much but thank God that he lived 🤘
Goosebumps everytime i hear the strings
I've heard this song a few times already but this time, for the first time ever I got some tears in my eyes during that last part. So powerful!
This song never gets old. A joy in every listen.
Happens to me every time.
RJD in my opinion approached his music like a musical theatre production, this tune could very easily be adapted to a Broadway production. Dio, saw him 3 times twice solo, once on the Heaven and Hell tour, he was unique, no other vocalist matched his vocal capabilities. ♥️
im 62 and have been into rock music my whole life
absolutely nothing touches this its a masterpiece from start to end
A masterpiece, so beautiful! It's one of those songs that you never want to end! Thank you, Aileen! 🤘🏻
This is the second reaction video where the reviewer mentions the solo being hypnotizing. Hard to describe but great observation.
It’s that B Phrygian Dominant scale, makes it sound exotic and otherworldly.
What a fantastic track! Love your reviews, watched this at least half a dozen times.Class👌🏻
this is perfection from the beginning to the end. And the best thing:
the best vocalist ever did the singing !
R.I.P. Ronnie, may you find all you were looking for in Sto'Vo'Kor
and Aileen you are still the best reviewer here by far, you see the real talent in these musicians and singers, my hat is off to you my dear, live long and prosper,
Already know it’s gonna be amazing! You deserve way more subscribers
You’re so kind 😭♥️
@@AileenSenpai thank you!❤️
I think you hit the nail on the head when you say bitter sweet; what a POWERFUL song! Whew!🤯👏👏
Dear Aileen, you have been right in all of your reviews, you really have your finger on the pulse when it comes to this style of music be it hard rock or metal, bravo to you as you are my favoutite of all time, touche long live rock and roll !
There are masterpieces, and there are masterpieces!!! 😍Great reaction Aileen! And Happy New 2023! 🙂
Aileen , you are awsome
"I see a rainbow rising"... That line still gets me, chills and goosebumps every time! Masterpiece is an often overused word but in this case it's fully justified. OK, so this is the studio version synched over the live performance, so I'm guessing maybe the original live audio quality wasn't too good, but take nothing away from the actual song itself. I've listened to Stargazer so many times down the years I've lost count and it's still as amazing now as the first time it blew me away over four decades ago.
One of The GREATEST SONGS EVER WRITTEN.
Ronnie puts so much feeling in the songs he did it oozes....you can literally feel what he's feeling.....s0 amazing.
Cozy Powell was so underrated as a drummer. His heavy style was incredible.
You’re so at ease with yourself it’s adorable. Love your stream of consciousness approach, a perfect demonstration of Zen. And impeccable taste in music too ✨
Legit my favorite song of all time. Always happy to see someone hear it for the first time.
Your jaw dropped a lot he was one of the best 😊
I'd love to know when that is.Maybe I'll make the trip from Buffalo to check it out.
You need to check out rainbow live in Munich Germany 1977 the song mistreated to truly appreciate Ronnie's voice the notes that he hits and holds is just truly incredible
The late, great, Cozy Powell on the kit!!! One of my biggest influences on drums.
Melodic rock is faaaaantastic. Rainbow was a superband with Ritchie at the helm. So many brilliant songs.
It gives me chills to this day! Hearing this song so many times and still get a reaction like the first time!
One of my favorite Rainbow songs. Dio is my all time favorite metal singers ever. “Gates of Babylon@ should be next
OMG I cannot wait for the look on your face. The greatest guitar player in rock history coupled with the greatest male vocalist in rock, backed by the powerhouse drumming of Cozy Powell. Of that trio, only Ritchie is still with us, and he’s still the master. The outro is the best male vocal performance in a rock song ever.
and Tony Carey the keyboard player still around
He appeared with Deep Purple in 1999, when they celebrated 30 years of the 'Concerto For Group and Orchestra' and sing a couple of songs with them on that show (with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall), you can check, and react to that performance too here: ruclips.net/video/lxaCl7Ce95M/видео.html
has anyone mentioned this is the same guitarist from your deep purple child in time reaction
Ritchie Blackmore who is on the guitar is someone who can play anything with strings, he proves this in his newer band with his third wife. Blackmore's Knight. Highly recommend them as well for a reaction video
*Blackmore's Night
In the 80s and 90s I was in my teens and twenties and Dio was by far my favorite of all the music I listened too. He's my only artist hero. His voice is the best. Thanks Ronnie! ❤️🙏
Legendary....poetry, music, magic, art, a Renaissance for the Soul
You did win the lottery. One of the best songs ever recorded 👌 Thanks Aileen.
Finally got to see him in Sydney on the Heaven and Hell tour in the 2000's....late in his career, but still......INCREDIBLE !!
