I never thought much of Neil. But I was trying (badly) to play Sweet Home Alabama during a guitar lesson. My teacher, who had a beautiful new Mesa Boogie amp, says, "no no no, that is like Neil Schon would play it." I was like, "Huh?" He's like, "Here..." (half just wanting to let the Mesa Boogie strut it's stuff), he stomps a couple pedals and goes into Stone In Love. "That's the tone you are trying (failing) to get." I always thought my teacher was bad ass so that part wasn't new but it was then I saw was Neil was doing in a new light, the tone he was getting from what he was doing, and the style he was bringing to Journey, underneath and around Steve's brilliant voice.
Journey was the best band ever! To bad it couldn't last. They were good with Steve Perry, Greg Rollie and Jonathan Cain. Love Arnel, beautiful person, but Journey is just not the same. They have no new music of their own. They only play the classic hit songs, which to me is a tribute band for now. Journey back in the day had amazing chemistry and wrote so many wonderful songs together that only a Journey fan would know about. To bad more of the songs weren't played on the radio. HUGE fan since 1983.
Yes. I get what you are saying. I've seen both versions ... with Steve Perry and with Arnel. I think the experience is pretty awesome either way. ... of course I'm in attendance primarily to see Neal. All good.
Why was he trying to claim that he and Gregg Rolie wrote Lights? Steve wrote that song before he met them, only it was about L.A. Neal helped him to change a few lyrics to make it about San Francisco, and Rolie doesn't even have a song credit on it.
Schon 2nd to none within pauses, un-predictable towards when/where neck wide, some are pull-downs, some are multiple string screamers, some are floyd rose enhanced. Phenominal legacy schon.

Nobody, until Arnel Pineda came along... and he truly personified their song more than any of them combined.

For the record, before the Sopranos, Open Arms was Journey's biggest hit.

unfortunately in spite of all his skill neil has a bit of a narcissism problem... also he never liked perry
Great interview
He needed that anthem all the more when searching for a new lead singer.
He is VERY FUCKING UNDERRATED IN GUITAR PLAYING!
noskilz04 which is mind boggling

Let Arnel sing, and have Neal, Jonathan, and Steve start writing together again. It would be epic.
Arnel can’t write songs
One of the best out there is you ask me :)
One of the top 3 best drum grooves ever by Steve Smith.
Very talented
On tour as a working guitarist at 16 years old playing in a band for Carlos Santana.
Neal almost looked just like my dad with the fro and stache.
Glad Neil came clean on Open Arms. He fuckin HATED that song.

NEAL!!!!
Neal Schon is God. Neal Schon is a guitar!
He is not, Jesus Christ is God.
Shout out to lizzy
Neil was against Open Arms and fought Steve all the way.
“Journey Guitarist……” That’s Neil Schon! Introduce him properly please!!!
That's why you need to get Steve Perry back and Greg Mallory
Greg Mallory?
Journey's Guitarist.
That's funny. It's ole what's his face...?
4:18 just all matter of fact and nonchalant
