      a sleep tracker based on heart rate, apparently does well for identifying deep sleep and awake time but REM is very inacurate so not a great tool ruclips.net/video/w9DZd8TIqz4/видео.html

    Can't believe we need devices to tell us we need to sleep and how much sleep we need etc.
    I bet if everyone switched everything off, no phones, no TV, no internet and tried to just live for 1 week, just 1 week. It would be a eye opening experience and one where things such as sleep, the importance of looking after one's self and what you want to focus on etc would be so clear.

    • @heymikehanna
      @heymikehanna  2 года назад +4

      Could not agree with you more! I see it as a stepping stone to eventually muster up the courage to do that. Which is something I'm planning out to do as well! Btw, have you tried this experiment yourself?

    • @rudra7615
      @rudra7615 2 года назад +10

      @@heymikehanna Well, that's the most perplexing thing to me.."muster up the courage to do it..". I find that statement so bizzare, surely control is in ones own self. You are the master of your life, not a puppet to the tech world.
      Have I experimented on myself? Ofcourse. It isn't good when you get to a stage where you can't even take a dump by yourself without a phone in your hand and scrolling. I realised things had to change. When I was young, my parents took me on vacations..the whole purpose was to switch off from everything, recharge, enjoy the vacation and come back..so yeah plenty of times, I would just plan something and switch everything off.
      Just walk around with a notepad and a pen/pencil and keep your phone in a cupboard for 1 day..the thoughts that flourish into your mind, view the world through your eyes, and go out and let your senses do what they are meant to do. You will get a lot of things you want to do in life rush over, and focus.
      Just something I recommend everyone to do, we're too connected, that's the problem..from the moment we wake up, we are reaching for the phone. Switch off for 1 day and enjoy that boredom. lol

    Hi Mike. I have been wearing my oura ring for 3 years now. Very neat device that is not too bulky as a watch. I love it very much. You mentioned you would adjust your workout based on your daily sleep data. May I ask what kind of your workout routine you do on a daily basis. And how do you adjust it accordingly? I usually go to the gym do the same things in the morning regardless of my sleep data. Love to see your workout routine in your future video also. Thanks.

      Glad I could help! Hmmm like I'd say the way I improved is learning how to improve my sleep from people like Matthew Walker, Ben Greenfield, and others. Then tested it out and checked the data to see if it worked after the fact. Like experimentation. Hope that helps :)

    Just subbed after watching your barefoot shoes and now this. I love your presentation style. It's a mix between a nervous energy and a childs excitement. Neither sound positive but it's meant that way. It's so rare to see nowadays and the combination make it fun and exciting to watch.
    I recently purhcase a pair of cheap 'beach' shoes.... you know the type... the ones that I can walk on hot sand straight into the water with. However I've been wearing them at home and my wife has commented how she can hear me walking across the house as there is no cushion.... and I commented that it sounds and feels good.
    Likely to purchase some Vivo stuff soon (will use your link as I think you had one). Also just put Oura on my wishlist..... thought slightly worried about the subscription fees.
    I subbed and look forward to new videos and working through the back catalog.

    People with the short sleeper syndrome genetics are about one in every 75 people of northern European descent, last time I checked. But it does boil down to about 1% of the global population. I'm fortunate enough to have that short sleeper gene.
    Just thought I was a freak my whole life and never needed the amount of sleep as anybody that I knew. Especially from age 10 onward. But even as a younger kid I fought my bedtime and would stay up, under the covers and read with a flashlight, so did not get the amount of sleep my parents were trying to make me get.
    Was quite relieved to learn that it is strictly based on genetics. And in fact short sleepers have some benefits of excellent memories and a tendency towards longevity in life, as well as a somewhat optimistic tendency according to the researchers.
    We need a much lower amount of sleep to retain information, relative to the general population. I have an excellent autobiographic memory and photographic memory. When I would only have 3 hours of sleep in college before a test it was far less than optimal but if I got 5 hours sleep it was no problem.
    Figured it came from my dad's side. Remember him as being basically a 6 hours per night sleeper. But he died an accidental death when I was young so I haven't been able to ask him. Got verification of it being on my dad's side when my first cousin, daughter of my dad's brother, confirmed that she has the same short sleeping pattern through her life history that I have. We are rare. But not as rare as rounding it down to 0%.
    It is believed that the gene is relatively new in the evolutionary time line. Once I figured out that it wasn't going to kill me, I was finally able to enjoy the short sleeper syndrome genetic gift. It's fun being weird once you learn that it's natural to you. I wear a smartwatch which lets me track my sleep. I'm able to go on my natural timeline. I average less than 6 hours sleep a night. And literally made it through most of my adult life sleeping between 3 to 5 hours per night. Often can't really get more than 5 hours. It's also thought that some people have more neurons in their brain that promote wakefulness than others.

    Oura really brings out the competence in you right? 😅 What's really interesting about it is it detects illness before you feel anything. Plus it's more comfortable than smart watches and the battery life is really awesome! It tackles a more holistic and wellness approach compared to smart watches that tracks activity and fitness. You can actually protect its beauty without sacrificing biometrics and comfort with an OSleeve.

      Tim. Could you please tell me more on why 50-60 average HRV is concerningly low? I’ve been wearing my Oura ring since October ‘20 and my average HRV varies a lot over months and weeks. Guidance in the Oura app says a range of 40-100 and I know the higher the better. I assumed age, fitness, lifestyle, stress levels, diet habits and of course sleep will make HRV different for everyone. What would you say is a “good” range?
